It had to be done.
Phew that feels better.
Over here crepeys. All very welcome (but only if you're crepey).

Wondering how much Homity Pie one could have on a 5:2 fast day. About { this much }.

bigTillyMint · 10/03/2013 20:26

Oooh yes, Homity pie - my friend used to make it! And gougere with a creamy mushroom filling. YumSmile

Stropperella · 10/03/2013 20:46

I made chicken and mushroom pie for lunch. It was v. yum. I have recently purchased a delightfully retro fondue set and we had a fondue night on Friday. First time and it went down very well. dd has plans of inviting a bunch of friends round for choc fondue.

'Twas the Style section of the ST which got me in a really bad rage: liquefying your bum fat to inject into your face. Oh yes. That's progress is it? The usual interiors annoyances; the adverts for ridiculous giant handbags that cost squillions and look like something yr great aunt agatha would have given to a jumble sale, an interview with some numpty called Marc Jacobs who just sounded like a .. numpty (perhaps that was the point). And my bete noire has her own column talking about eyeliner. Splendid.

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/03/2013 20:47

I can take or leave sushi, personally. We only eat it regularly because we live opposite a sushi restaurant, and always end up there when I come home growling "I'm not cooking!"

I went to the market this morning but there wasn't much there as everyone was off on their ski-ing holiday, and those that were there had quite depleted stocks. The pork butcher had neither snouts nor trotters, which was causing quite a lot of difficulty for the old lady in front of me. I got some fruit, veg and Nice Cheese, most of which we seem to have eaten already. The caviste was also "en vacance" so I was obliged to top up our stocks from Nicolas.

You can't get double cream in France (or any sort of cream that whips, unless you add a powder called "chantifix" to it) which seems bizarre for the country that invented whipped cream. Good old Emma Ness comes to the rescue these days, though, when needs must.

Stropperella · 10/03/2013 20:50

I had to edit that grumble, as there were umpteen other bits I massively took exception to. Grin It just seemed full of witless expensive idiocy. But then I'm an impoverished local rather than an "urban hipster".

The term "urban hipster" actually makes me want to scream. I am sooooooooooooooooo old. And witchy.

Stropperella · 10/03/2013 20:51

Ooooops, x-posts MrsS Grin

I think I'd better retire from the internet for a while, due to excessive crabbiness.

motherinferior · 10/03/2013 20:56

Yer bête noire has a pretty huge face already, Stropps, if she's who I think. Bum fat will not help.

I should read the style section but don't. Btw I forwarded all your somewhat trenchant views on women's mags (masquerading as 'I've talked to a number of bright, informed women right in this demographic and they say...' to ed of the mag I may end up doing some work onGrin

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/03/2013 21:05

Is the bum fat to enhance the botox that she already uses? Grin

Are you due on, Strops? Grin

And on the subject of that, can anyone explain to me, if wimmin who live together are supposed to menstruate at the same time, why DD1 and I don't? We come on two weeks apart, regular as clockwork. Not in synch at all.

bigTillyMint · 10/03/2013 21:53

MrsS, re the double/whipping cream - when we were staying with our friends at half-term, JF was trying to make some meringues suisses with a sort of soda-stream-type device which was supposed to aerate the special cream. Needless to say, it was like a cartoon comedy with just runny cream coming out and then as he tried to put some on DD's meringues, an explosion all over her hoodyGrin Maybe he has never heard of chantifix!

And re:periods, same here MrsS - DD is a week behind me! She is sort-of considering (as in not at all keen but I am encouraging) trying tampons as she is due to come on when we are in Thailand... One of her best friends uses them, so I am going to get her to have a wordWink

CointreauVersial · 10/03/2013 22:03

Deep breaths, Strops, deep breaths.....and relaaaaaaax.Wink

CointreauVersial · 10/03/2013 22:05

This tampon thing....don't teens use them??

I never used an ST in my life.

Stropperella · 10/03/2013 22:18

Don't mind me, I'm just a choleric, middle-aged pleb from the provinces. Grin

Dd likes the Style mag and the rage was her fault because she drew my attention to the thing by saying "ooh look, here is your favourite person." Grin

Stropperella · 10/03/2013 22:36

Re: tampons - erm, dd has tried, and there has been much wailing and gnashing of teeth on swimming days, but um, no-go. As for being in sync, we were for ages, but now not. Is entirely better not to have two doses of PMT going on at once, though.

Cremolafoam · 10/03/2013 23:00

I think the rage is a Sunday night thing. I have felt it bubbling up all day- sodding ironing - sodding work of doom- sodding half finished bedroom decoration- sodding school skirt still damp - sodding no heating-
Johnny depp just a chocolate scented memory-

Flip me - three hot flushes in the last hour.Shock

Did anyone watch Shetland.? Douglas Henshall . I'd say yes, probably......

Blackduck · 11/03/2013 06:15

Stropps you make me :)
I don't read sups close enough to cause bouts of rage, but do love the handbags that cost squillions. Dp will buy the FT on a Saturday purely to look at the 'how to spend it' section because you realise just how far from their demographic you are :)
I spent the day silently seething, re-running bathroom convo in my head. I also left the washing up knowing I will be doing it tonight......

herbaceous · 11/03/2013 14:00

I got an email from my favourite boutique, Sainbury's, all about their marvellous TU range, and that it's now available online. Amusing, it also said they'd done a 'surprise makeover' at their Sydenham branch! I was rather hoping one of the victims would be one of the SE London crepey massive. But no.

DP away all week in New York, the lucky bastard. I must try not to throttle DS during that time. He's being a little trying at the moment.

bigTillyMint · 11/03/2013 15:28

Oooh, I was only wondering the other day why it wasn't online! Do they mean the huge Penge branch, I wonder?

Envy at NY trip - my BF has just been too.

Cremolafoam · 11/03/2013 19:37

Ooh herbs must take a look at Tu webby. That's interesting. My dh is also in NYC this week!! < wonders what husbands are getting up to together>Wink
As a result the house will stay THE SAME - tidy and clean. And finally we have heating( turned up full blast as Dh isn't here to moan about 'thermal units' and whatnot.)
Snow here today ( small dusting)
Did Paree get it too Mrs S? Looks bait cold in France Nord.

Dd off to Berlin on Skool Trip next week so must check out the weather in allemagne.

Am very Wink about Spring colours. Many pastels which I fear don't suit me. The summer Boden catalogue looks a bit previous considering the temperature. Can't face the bikinis just yet( if eveh)

herbaceous · 11/03/2013 19:49

The whole marvellous Tu range isn't online, but the choicest 'pieces' are.

DS, 3.5, has until now stubbornly refused to be parted from his cot. Tonight he's decided it's for babies, so is sleeping in the spare bed - a 4ft-wide mahogany French number. Well, for five minutes. I'm expecting a lot of tiny feet pattering tonight. Which doesn't go well with a fast day.

My DP is in New York for some 'essential' meetings with very important people. I somehow doubt the meetings would be quite so essential if they were somewhere duller, such as Des Moines, or Dusseldorf.

I used to go to NYC at least once a year, as I've got friends who live in Greenwich Village. Haven't been since DS was born, so I'm mega-EnvyEnvyEnvy.

I shall spend the week watching the new series of masterchef, and doing tedious admin.

bigTillyMint · 11/03/2013 21:06

Crem, it's bare cold!

Am perusing bikinis for DD - she needs another one and it is sooo difficult to find large cup with tiny bottoms for cheap price...

Herb, you can't even buy it onlineHmm

Stropperella · 11/03/2013 21:31

I have never been to NY. Or indeed to the US.

BTM, I got a lovely bikini from Fatface last year for dd (not dissimilar specs), but admittedly it was rather ££.

Dd's geography class had a field trip to Lyme Regis today. They had to come back early as some of the students came over a bit poorly due to the cold (poss due to some of them only wearing shorts and tights ?!?) and then half the class's fieldwork notes blew into the sea.

Stropperella · 11/03/2013 21:31

Had big fat argument with dd about Converse not being suitable footwear for fieldwork trip to Lyme in snow and mud. Hmm

Cremolafoam · 11/03/2013 21:39

BTM vair vair cold. But I am now toasty with a squillion degree heat on!
On the subject of bikinis- is it not possible to buy separates ie small bottoms and mix and match larger top for those with greater norkage.
