Anyone tried Merrell Taiga boots?

I started another thread yesterday about my desperate need for boots for current snowy and icy conditions that won't slip.

Have already had some good suggestions, but wondered if anyone had actual experience of these Merrell Taiga boots which look as if they might meet the need. I'd want the zip version, which should be easier/quicker to put on:

I have seen favourable comments about them on here before (could google for those).

My only thing against them is that the soles are quite stiff, iirc, I wanted more of a warm city walking boot then something better suited to off pavement.

Hmm I want something that's suitable for pavements in cities and suburbs when they're covered in snow/ice/slush !

Yes I have them with zip, or the equivalent that were on sale two years ago. They are well worth the money. Cosy & have never leaked. I've just got back from a trek around town in the snow & v. comfy for walking.

Although we are snow bound at the moment and for the foreseeable future(!), we only have those conditions about 10 days/year max, typically.
£115 is a lot of money to spend on boots that only get worn 10 days/year.

Technically my city boots are lovely on snow although not stiff enough for ice maybe, thick tread, very warm (too warm maybe), and I've heavily treated them to cope with a bit of wet, but I am precious about them so would rather get my stiffer-soled cheaper hi-tecs out for muddy wet slush & > 1.5" of snow.

They are really excellent boots. Yes they are expensive and it doesn't snow much but they will last years (mine have been worn quite a lot more than ten days a year for about three years and there is absolutely no sign of wear and tear). They are so warm and despite the furry interior, they never get, ahem, smelly even if I wear them for many hours. They are also fantastic as walking boots for a few hours' walk.

I've got similar ones (Merrell Oslo) and wear them loads through the winter as they're so comfortable and warm. They were a half price bargain last year!

I've not really worn them much in deep snow though but they have been brilliant in slush and rain.

I read a review somewhere where someone commented that snow can leak in through the side zip but other than that the reviews were brilliant.

I've got the Merrell Yarra and they seem pretty good so far. Warm, comfy, completely waterproof and decent grip though I'm considering Yaktrax for the very icy days.

Thanks a lot - the prices on that Field and Trek site are really good. Now can't decide if I like the Merrell Taiga buckle - which I see does have a zip too - or the Merrell Oslo better!!

Actually, I think I have the Oslo ones. As someone else said, they get a lot more wear than just in the snow.

I've worn them whilst on skiing holidays in very deep snow & they haven't leaked on me.

Me! I have the taigas and I love them. Warm, dry, great grip, incredibly comfy and they look the biz. Worth every penny, they'll do me for many years. Think I'm on year two just now. Always getting compliments.

You can get the boots that Merrells markets as snow boots, Natalya, for the same price at the website linked below. They are amazing. So warm, no slipping or falling over and look nice with skinny jean and a jumper. I have had them a couple of years and I get complimented all the time.

Ice just got some next snow boots. 50 on the sake 4 years ago. Wear to rugby etc. and in snow.

I also have the Merrell Oslo boots and they are fab. This is my third or fourth winter with them and they are wearing really well. I wear them loads in winter and they are extremely warm and comfy.

I've got Merrell Oslo boots. They were £45 from Field & Trek. Very warm, and mostly waterproof (did leak a bit in very heavy rain).

Just wondering what the fit is like. I am a six and a half. Should I go bigger or smaller? Iykwim ?

I've recently bought the merrell dauphine, which are lace up but quite groovy. The grip is amazing, and they're really comfy right from the first wear. I'm going to use them for bracing outdoor walks as well as cold weather, so well worth the £80 (in the sale).

But they do come up big. I'm usually a 6, but could easily fitted into a 5.5.

I have the Taiga buckle, got them in black for Xmas from gaynor sports (iirc, field & trek only cheap for the white). Worn them loads already, but bought them with ski holiday in mind. Great for cold wet days trekking around zoos etc, even when no snow!

I'm a 6.5 in Clarks and most brands and I bought the 6.5 Merrell Yarra and it's perfect. Would definitely be too small if I'd sized down and I only wear thin socks with them.

Haven't tried those particular boots, but after years of trial and error, I now only buy shoes / trainers / boots from Merrell. I usually buy from eBay so they are a bit cheaper. Either new or only worn once inside the house.

I have the Merrell Puffin frost boots, super comfy but quite casual in style.

I have the Oslos. They have been good this week, I've walked over the footpath across the field to the bus stop and around town with no issues. The sole is the same as on the Taigas.

I'm a 3-3.5, and got what Merrell call a UK 3.5. The conversion printed on the boxes from US size to UK size is pretty good for women's Merrells.
