Denim shorts with tights...

AlwaysOneMissing · 14/01/2013 16:38

I like the style of denim shorts with tights underneath.
But... am I too old to wear them?! I am nearly 30, petite size 8/10 and would wear them with flat chunky boots, black tights and a slouchy jumper.

What's the MN verdict?!!

If you like it then i dont think you can be too old! I see lots of ladies your age and older wearing them. Sounds like a nice outfit choice

Bundlejoycosysweet · 14/01/2013 17:19

I say do it! I have been known to wear shorts with tights and I am older than you!

ujjayi · 14/01/2013 17:32

Go for it. I wear shorts (tweed or wool for preference) and opaques and am 42...... Smile

Curtsey · 14/01/2013 18:06

I love shorts and tights but tbh I think denim shorts are too teenagery for me and I'm 29. Tweed and wool great choices though, and I also have a navy silk pair that are nice.

Bella88 · 14/01/2013 18:25

It's a look I loathe so I'd say NO to it whether you were 13 or 30 Grin

deleted203 · 14/01/2013 18:28

You are in your 20s and a size 8, my dear. You can wear what you like and look fabulous. Envy

simbo · 14/01/2013 18:28

I wouldn't personally, because it is too popular a look with the 10-15 yr olds around here and I would feel mutton doing it, but if you think you can get away with it, go for it.

toastandmarmiterocks · 14/01/2013 18:42

Sorry but no. My 5 year old carries that look off well but I don't even like it on teens. Sorry.

dexter73 · 14/01/2013 18:42

Only teens wear it here so I would say no. Get some tweed/wool shorts instead.

MarshaBrady · 14/01/2013 18:44

Go for tweed or wool shorts. Will look good.

Trills · 14/01/2013 18:45

There's no such thing as "too old" for a look.

Then again if something is only worn by teens you might wonder why (does it actually look good...?)

QueenCadbury · 14/01/2013 18:45

I wear opaques and woollen shorts at nearly 40. Denim shorts however would make me look like my 7yo dd!

Selks · 14/01/2013 18:50

Looks good if you're 12.

scarlet76 · 14/01/2013 18:51

Not denim. DD age 8 rocks that look.
I'm a petite size 6-8 and 36. I wear tweed shorts with opaques.

AlwaysOneMissing · 14/01/2013 23:20

Haha thank you all for your honesty!

I think the majority think it is too teenager-y and that was my suspicion too. So I'll think I'll play it safe and avoid the denim shorts. I like the sound of tweed though so I may keep my eye out for some of those.
Thanks again! Smile

I don't think you should worry. Get a pair of denim shorts, try on, and if you like the look, go for it!

(Get some wool or non-denim ones too if you want!)

AlwaysOneMissing · 15/01/2013 16:23

Thanks Ageing Smile

I've never personally seen that look on an adult - 17 at the oldest around here. It's almost a uniform.

h3rbm · 26/01/2013 22:11

It's definately a teenage girl thing, and the problem is that they don't realise how daft it looks. It's on a par with a bloke wearing his underpants over his trousers like superman.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/01/2013 23:57

My DD does this. She's tall (I'm 5'5" and she is up to my nose), slim (size 6)

and 10 years old.

So she can get away with it Grin

Startail · 27/01/2013 00:01

I have 11 and 14 yo DDs who do denim shorts over tights or leggings, so I find a difficult look to imagine on an adult.

Mind you I've never been an adult and a size 8

50ShadesOfMaybe · 27/01/2013 08:03

Erm. New to this, but. I'm older than the OP and I wear this combination. I think I look OK in it. DH does too. And a friend the other day commented that I always looked good and went out and bought herself some shorts!

I have a few pairs. They are not all denim. I wear the short ones with turn-ups mostly - avoiding the frayed and "cut like a pair of knickers" look than some teenagers go for.

What I like about shorts is that I can wear something short without worrying that I'm about the flash the gusset of my tights! Grin

Mrsrobertduvall · 27/01/2013 08:39

I love the look, but my dd would disown me if I started wearing.

Even though I am size 12, have 35 ins legs....I am 52 Sad

dd looks fabulous with her equally long pins.

Lottapianos · 27/01/2013 09:27

I'm 33 and I wear denim shorts with tights or leggings underneath. Go for it OP

happyjustobeme · 27/01/2013 09:29

Ne hundred per cent yes. I was the same size as you when i was 29, and i wish i had worn things like that. Now much bigger. And older,
