Green coat - yes or no?

In two minds about this coat. What do you guys think?

I had a coat of that exact shade of green years ago. It's one of my best colors and flattered my skin tone, but was a touch difficult to combine with other colors. So think through your shoes, boots, jeans, trousers, dresses - will you be able to wear them with this one?

It's not going to be my every day all day coat - I have a black one, and other jackets but thought it might work ok with jeans/dressing up smart (maybe) eg cream blouse, jeans, high heels...However, there are a couple of shot of celebs in this colour and the comments have not been kind (relating to astroturf...)

I can't open the link from my phone but I have an bright green trench coat and I love it and always get compliments on the colour.

Love the colour, but not keen on the coat... Prefer this one, tbh.

If I could afford a green coat I would have this lovely, I think a green coat could go well with lots of colours too.

I do really like the colour of the précis one in your op.

I have a coat from Hobbs in a similar colour. Love it but agree that you have to be careful that if matches the rest if your wardrobe. Really cheers me up in winter though

The Reiss one isn't green enough, it's more black.

Hi and thank you so much for your replies. I really appreciate them and feel very encouraged. I love the coats that have been suggested - however I am 5ft nothing and often the proportions of the regular ranges can come up a bit large - beyond length and sleeve adjustments, for example the shoulder width. If I were a different build, I'd have more choices...but they are excellent suggestions nonetheless and beautiful colours.

This coat is such a break from my usual palette of neutrals that it feels really daring to go for such a strong colour and it's good to have the opinions of a few other people as I was wondering if I was having a bit of a "moment"!

I don't really understand why the colour would be limiting? What colour(s) does green not go with? This is gorgeous too, if a little pricey.

I am also short, so can understand that you might find it tricky to get the right fit. Have you tried the précis one on?

Hi, thanks, AphraBehn for the vote of confidence! TapselteerieO, wow that coat is gorgeous! Yes I have tried it on. I got it online and was debating whether to hang on to it or return it. It's currently hanging outside my wardrobe with a variety of scarves draped around it.

I would consider changing the buttons on your coat, I think they should match the fabric, black buttons would make me more conscious of what I was wearing with the coat, they would bug me basically. Green buttons would make it easy to wear any colour, IMHO. I like contrasting colours, that colour of green goes well with black, navy, brown, but you could wear red, yellow, turquoise etc, you could keep it casual and it would work for more dressy occasions. I am sure a good alteration service would change the buttons for you, finding the right match probably wouldn't be too hard and it would make it more special.

Hi TapselteerieO, funny you should mention that as I was looking at them today and wondering what the coat would look like with different buttons, and yes green would have been better. I'll think about that idea some more.

When I had a bright green coat, I felt that shade of green did not work well with dark brown and burgundy, and somehow it felt really dodgy with navy and beige. Red works with green yes but you'll look like a Christmas tree, and I usually don't wear light blue denim or white in the winter. So I was stuck with tan (leather bag), black and graphite gray. I found a fantastic scarf to wear with the coat, so that was not an issue - trousers and footwear were the problem. If you are confident wearing and combining colors, go ahead. I finally gave up and charity-bagged mine last winter.

DonaAna, I know what you mean. I do have other neutral coloured coats so this wouldn't be my only coat particularly with tricky to match/combine colours. My overall plan is to have a kind of wardrobe of coats....neutrals mostly but with one bright. I'd like to also have a winter coat in French navy and also a khaki parka for casual. If only my funds were limitless!

I love navy with green. You will only know what works for you after trial and error.

White I understand your need for a bright coat - I really loved mine, but have switched to red as a statement color because it seems to work better with my clothes (mind, not everything) and I wore it perhaps once every winter. But you definitely should go for it if you think it works for you!

The first Pinterest link you posted, with jeans and shirt was my fave, that is probably along the lines of how I would want to wear it, I suppose being such a bold colour maybe it takes more confidence to wear? Hence the reason we see so few strong coloured coats - yet when we do see them we all think how lovely they are.

Ana - totally get you. Thanks for that search too! I'm not really into red as it doesn't really feel "me", although I like the look of it! I thought green would potentially go with more lipstick colours than red or a raspberry coat, ie orange reds and pinks. Tapselteerio, that's my favourite picture as well. If only I could look like that in it!
