I've never really worn make up, styled my hair or bothered with how I look. That was fine when I was young and fresh. Now I'm 34 (nearly 35) and I want to look good. I have just tried to curl my hair (and failed) and sorted out my make up, throwing out stuff that doesn't suit me.

I had a whole day of shopping today with no dc! :)

I got loads in primark Blush including some basic tshirts, a white and blue wooly Breton style, and one in navy and red with a smidgen of cashmere Hmm and a fairisle cardigan. I am a sucker for fairisle!

I also need some new boots as mine have started dying! I've only had them since autumn! :( Angry

Curlysueuk · 12/01/2013 18:11

What a great thread.... I agree it's time to update myself a bit, I feel I have got lazy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/01/2013 19:15

MotherOfVikings - try Dune for lots and lots of sale boots. Some are dreadful but some are lovely.

motherofvikings · 12/01/2013 19:35

thanks remus! i had a look in dune today but nothing at all i liked.
i had quite specific requirements - basically the same as what i had before but not falling papart after 4 months Hmm

I've ordered these rocket dog ones I had some blowfish ones which were lovely but i'm not buying them again as they didn't last at all well. i wanted flat, slouchy ankle boots. as i'm short of leg i needed something low and that i can just bung on with skinny jeans etc. not the most elegant perhaps but i don't do heels. :)

Alaska77 · 12/01/2013 22:54

Remus, your outfit sound really fab!

Mother, I love the rocket dog boots, they look really comfortable. Glad to hear you had a productive shopping day!

I've spent much of today building Lego (not by choice, you understand) apart from a short trip to Tesco. I'm now in my PJ's with one of my lovely cats on my lap, but earlier I was wearing light grey leggings and long sleeved top with a black Amy dress from Hush over the top (I'd post a link but can't figure out how to do it on this newfangled iPad). For my Tesco trip I added a grey faux-leather jacket, grey and black White Co scarf and black biker boots. No make-up today, just moisturiser, but my skin feels a bit more glowy since I started paying more attention to it so I was ok with that.

Happy fabulising, peeps Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/01/2013 22:56

Thanks Alaska. What's the quality/sizing like at Hush? They have some lovely things.

mammadiggingdeep · 12/01/2013 23:20

This was my resolution too.....have worn make up and straightened my hair every day this month so far. Such an effort but feel sooooo much better for it......:)

putyourhatonsweetie · 13/01/2013 07:27

Hello all

Have been camping all weekend so outfits are mostly swimming costumes, scruffy shorts, scraped back hair and mosquito bites. sigh. Am going to treat myself this evening though to a body scrub and long bath.

thanks for continuing inspiration

Alaska77 · 13/01/2013 09:28

Remus, the sizing at hush is pretty generous which is pleasing! I'm a size 10/11 in the real world and I buy XS at hush. I sometimes find sleeves a little long but I'm only 5'2" so it's to be expected!

In fact I'm wearing a hush dress today; the Michelle dress with leggings and a long-sleeved tee underneath.

Mamma well done with the ongoing beautification! Do you feel better for it?

Sweetie where did you go camping? Swimmies and shorts sounds like you we're somewhere warmer than the UK!

adi82 · 13/01/2013 10:16

I join the club too Smile Have to loose some weight and to get back my self-respect.

muddlingalongquitenicely · 13/01/2013 10:51

Today I am wearing purple chiffon top/dress from asda with black vest top underneath black leggings and my black steampunky heeled boots. Black biker jacket and make up!! Only going to aldi :)

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 13/01/2013 11:37

Oohjust seen this thread! This was my NY resolution, too, but I'm really not doing great. Started well for a few days, but can't keep it up. Need a bit of moral support, I think. Off to work now, but looking forward to reading the thread when I get home.

TrampyPants · 13/01/2013 13:00

Everyones doing so well! I'm very impressed. Will do a proper post in a bit, just checking in. I did loads of housework yesterday inc ironing and have discovered a gorgeous dress that I need to make use of. No make up yesterday either, but my skin is fab thanks to the extra attention I've been paying it, besides, I like the odd day off. Had a primpy bathj last night with super hair conditioner, face scrub, body scrub, shaving, lotioning... Today I'm suffering with my joints (overdid it yesterday) which is poo. How's everyone?

Ooh Trampy you've just reminded me Ive got some body scrubs stashed away! Yay! My arse wont know whats hit it later Grin Well this morning I was wearing a mink coloured long sleeved top over a thin black batwing type top, black skinny jeans with laces up the back, black biker boots, black scarf, black coat..... Wink Makeup - smoky blue eyes, black eyeliner, new orange lippy. Finished off with a silver pendant.

Anyway Im hope now and waiting for dinner to cook and have done a load of cleaning, so I swapped the batwing top for a black slouchy jumper, and the skinnies for joggers. Im now having a coffee in front of the fire.

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 13/01/2013 16:42

Today hasn't been good - have spent the whole day slobbing about in my pyjamas. It's snowing here and I had no plans to go anywhere so it didn't seem important.
Unfortunately I am also brewing a huge spot on my chin. One of those horrible red lumps that doesn't actually have a head (tmi) so I'll look a picture at work tomorrow.
Think I'm slowly falling off this wagon - need to give myself a kick up the backside and pick things up again.

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 13/01/2013 18:26

Hope your feeling better soon trampy.

Ooh I have got one of them spots on the side of my jawline always, they are bloody painful!!

Anyways back in work today, won't get another day off friday, but that is o.k because its payday so will be having a scour round for work uniform.

I treated myself to a lovely bag from clarks in a mulberry bayswater style, obviously not same price tag it was down to £20 from £40 and its not leather but it is lovely. I tried to talk myself out of a clutch bag I spotted in there but now I'm thinking its a brilliant match to a satiny type blazer I have.
I am having problems as I keep seeing some gorheous things that are perfect additions to my wardrobe but I'm supposed to be having lots of no spend days and joined a credit crunch thread at the same time as this one.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/01/2013 18:37

I keep thinking that a clutch bag would be a useful addition to my wardrobe. In reality, I lose anything that isn't stapled to me, so I would be pretty useless with one, I think.

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 13/01/2013 18:53

Haha Remus, my problem is I try to put far too much stuff in them and generally at some point in the evening the contents end up all over the floor. I am trying to justify this purchase by the fact it is bigger than what I normally go for, chances are I will just put more stuff in it Hmm

TrampyPants · 13/01/2013 19:15

Oh, how I love clutch bags, but neverseem to use them. I shall have to start. Always, I had a pyjama day too, but don't worry, we can both be gorgeous again tomorrow. For the spot try boiling water on a cotton pad (don't scald yourself tbough) it'll bring out thehead. We can be fabulizing buddies.

Just had a lovely bath and am about to check myeyebfows for strays.

Guy, thatoutfit sounds lovely.

I lovebags. Need a new one.

Have a look on the minimalism thread in Good Housekeeping too. Maybe we could do a post on the minimalist handbag?!

Just about to sort out my outfit for tomorrow. I need to be super smart, so shall I go for:

grey fishtail skirt with matching corset style jacket, black silk t-shirt or black cowl neck top, opaques, heels

grey Westwood hitch skirt, same choice of tops as above, black cropped jacket, opaques, platforms or ankle boots

navy blue silk dress, black blazer, opaques, heels

purple blazer and purple opaques, black silk skirt, some sort of shoe or other!

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 13/01/2013 19:31

I like the sound of the fishtail skirt option or the navy silk dress, I have to say Remus your outfits always sound lovely.

Thanks for the heads on the minimalism thread, I need all the help I can get, I mean I like my bags organised I just have a lot of stuff in them (you know, just incase)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/01/2013 19:48

Thank you. :) Think I'll go with the fishtail.

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 13/01/2013 20:41

Thanks Trampy I'll try that now whilst I'm watching the DoI results show

julz09 · 13/01/2013 21:34

Well had a busy few days (house is being renovated) looked like a scruff the whole time Hmm Im thinking i need to get a hair appointment to get my hair done will put it on my to do list. Trampy yeah i have no friends here its been a long hard 3 years Sad Running group was good though some locals actualy spoke to me! Shock ds started nursery and 4 days in none of the mums have spoke or even given me eye contact yet so im struggling with getting motivated to look good. On a more positive note i now have 2 super nice and comfy pais of shoes bought from the clarks sale! Feeling very smug with myself and my bargains Grin

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 13/01/2013 21:48

I think I'm going to be drummed out of this thread for being totally rubbish.
I just don't seem able to get into any routine. I don' t know if it's because I really don't like any of my clothes just now so there doesn't seem much point bothering with anything else.
I also got my hair coloured before Christmas and really don't like it. It was meant to be a trendy silvery/grey/purple but it just looks like a dirty blonde to me. I' m going back to the hairdresser on Friday so think I might just go back to brown.
I really don't have any excuse for not being the most groomed person ever. I live by myself and have no DCs so should have time to lavish on myself. Think I need a good kick up the a**e.
