I've never really worn make up, styled my hair or bothered with how I look. That was fine when I was young and fresh. Now I'm 34 (nearly 35) and I want to look good. I have just tried to curl my hair (and failed) and sorted out my make up, throwing out stuff that doesn't suit me.

Hi I would love to join this please, so fed up of looking meh. My kids are teenagers so I should have the time now to look after me.
My goals are:
Lose weight as of 7th jan I have 32lbs to lose, I am doing sw and c25k thinking about joining a gym in feb.
Clear out my wardrobe of clothes I don't wear and make a list of things I want to get
Skin and body care routine maybe do 1 or 2 things a night
Wear make up
Take care of my nails they are a bit rubbish as I just had acrylics taken off
And most importantly to me get out and do new things and meet new people fed up of wallowing at home doing nothing!

Whoknowswhocares · 11/01/2013 11:06

Morning everyone
Not been posting but still reading avidly......so many good tips and motivation.
Going to gym in a minute for my first ever Zumba class. Am quietly terrified nervous as have zero coordination for dance and will def end up doing most of it wrong but have always wanted to try. S'pose it will give the others a laugh if nothing else!

Will sort out a few grooming bits and a hot bath when I get back and then find something decent to wear. Not got anything like as fancy as some of the lovely outfits others have posted though......I think the next month or so I want to plan a proper spring/summer wardrobe and get a wish list of things a REALLY want as opposed to random impulse splurges which have left me with loads of cheap clothes but no proper outfits

GuyMartinsSideburns · 11/01/2013 11:54

Ooh Whoknows do let us know how you get on! I bet you'll have a great time even though Ive actually no idea what the hell Zumba is! Let me know if you recommend Smile

You're all sounding gorge, btw. I slacked off for the past couple of days, had a lot on my mind but now I think things are sorted Im feeling happier and more positive. Today Im wearing black leggings, a black long sleeved top, and a knitted brown dress over that. Tis freezing and the neck of the dress is quite low so I always wear something underneath it. Currently have a big cardy over the top of it all..... god Im cold!

Think it might be an idea to think about buying something each month, only somewhere like h an m but think that 'one nice thing' when I can afford it will do my wardrobe good and give me more options whilst not breaking the bank.

Have a great weekend everyone Smile

Well, thanks to assignments and being ill I failed spectacularly last week! Still, time to clamber back onto the wagon!

Missions accomplished:

I bought some new vest tops to replace my worn-out ones, they're all grey or deep purple and very nice despite costing just £2.50 each. They always fall apart after 2-3 months of very regular wear so I'm not convinced that they're the best value, but they're the only ones that fit me properly and TBH my boobs ruin any stretchy tops within 6 months anyway.

I started using coconut oil as a cleanser (mostly because I left my grapeseed oil somewhere over Christmas), and surprisingly it's made my skin look and feel much better. I shall persist with this.

Resolutions for the week:

  • Learn to put hair up nicely
  • Alternate at least 2 skirts and 1 pair of jeans
  • Actually wear my lovely red cloche hat before the cold weather is over
  • Get dressed up for an evening out
  • Clean and condition all of my leather bags, shoes and skirts.
PeppaPrig · 11/01/2013 14:13

I'm wearing primer and am applying burts bees cuticle cream regularly. It's delicious. Grin

I plan to do a manicure if dd and ds sleep at same time . Will try an MUA cherry red.

No shower, greasy hair, maternity clothes (not pg). Sad

AlwaysReadyForABlether · 11/01/2013 15:27

After yesterday's debacle at the hospital, I made sure I took my time getting ready today.
Body brushed before my shower, washed and exfoliated all over, washed and conditioned hair. Then put on BB cream, eye shadow & mascara and used Benetint on my cheeks and lips.
Definitely felt much better for it.

Went to Superdrug and bought this. Don't know what it will be like but thought it was a good introduction to the range. Some of the make-up looks lovely online but sadly they didn't have it in my local shop.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/01/2013 16:00

Monk - learn how to put hair up nicely = a fantastic target. I always look very severe with my hair up and I'd love to know how to do it so that it still has some shape/style. Do please post updates, and then teach me!

I went for a black pencil skirt and red shoes in the end today and have had three young men call me Dorothy and say that they wished they could get away with wearing 'statement shoes!'

I'm trying to persuade dp to take me out tonight. I hardly ever get to dress up of an evening.

Here's to a fun, stylish and sartorial weekend for all! :)

Whoknowswhocares · 11/01/2013 16:18

Unbelievably I liked Zumba! Ok, I went the wrong way at leat half the time, but no one seemed to care and other people were at least as bad I'm going again next week

Going to drool over some new clothes online to get ideas.....any website recommendations?I'm looking for casual stuff mostly. I dream of French Chic style, although ive managed to get to the age of 46 looking mostly like a bag lady. I am the epitome of the 'drab mum' look, complete with boot cuts/fleece/mum boot combo. Especially need straight leg jeans or trousers which do not make my chunky legs look like overstuffed sausages!

TrampyPants · 11/01/2013 16:20

Afternoon all! Welcome to muddling those are all great goals.

Whoknows, have fun at zumba. It's dancercize thingy isn't it?

Guy, it's bloody freezing, isn't it? Your plan sounds good. H+m have some great stuff in their sale. Got a teal blazer today for £7

Monk, did you get them from primarily or newlook. I love newlook vests. Aims sound really good too

Peppa, I got l'occtaine hand cream in the sale today. That's my beauty splurge.

Always, glad you feel better. Sounds like you really attacked it today.

Remus, that sounds ace. Ikwym aboutnever going out. I could really do with a night in high heels!

TrampyPants · 11/01/2013 17:05

I love la redoute. I also trawl ebays outlet section where shops like french connection have their sale stuff.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/01/2013 19:03

I failed in persuading dp to go to the pub. We did go for a run though, so I've been rocking the running capri trousers and white trainers, instead of high heels and lipstick! Now going to have a takeaway though - wonder if I've burned off enough calories to justify paneer dhansak and pilau rice?!

I'm going to try and buy some new shoes tomorrow. Can anybody recommend some really lovely but comfortable smart black work heels? I have small and narrow feet, so I know lots of people on here say New Look shoes are comfortable, but they are all too wide for me. I saw a lovely pair in the Clarks sale but the size 4s were too big and the 3s were too small - agh.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/01/2013 19:05

WhoKnows - try Oasis for flatteringly cut jeans.

minimumthebare · 11/01/2013 20:24

Evening, everyone's doing so well! I've had a tough week back at work, but have found an amazing nail bar really close to my house that does a file and polish for £6, so I'm going to get them done every Friday-only took about 15 minutes!

I managed good work outfits for three days, had one day working from home, and really screwed up on the other day-wore a pre-pregnancy top, and hadn't realised how much my norks have grown, so ended up almost flashing most of the department Blush That's gone right to the back of the wardrobe till I've lost the rest of the baby weight!

Trampy, could you PM me a link to your blog please?

Karbea · 11/01/2013 20:30

Tramp could you pm me too?

I've been remiss with my blog.

Whoknowswhocares · 11/01/2013 20:33

Me too please trampy

Alaska77 · 11/01/2013 21:26

Hi everyone, so pleased to see people doing so well even in the face of adversity!

I had a lovely time at the do last night and had lots of nice comments about my sequinned dress which was a real boost. The hair curling with straighteners thing was a reasonable success but one side definitely looked better than the other so I need a bit more practice. But what I was mostly proud of was rolling back to my hotel at 1.30am and still remembering to take my makeup off AND putting my rosehip oil on!

Today's outfit to make my way back home from London was black leggings, black long-sleeved turtleneck and a grey batwing jumper, all from The White Company (bought last season with discounts), worn with black ankle biker boots.

Keep posting everyone, I love to hear about all the outfits Grin

Remus, I think Clarks do half sizes so you may be able to get the store to order a 3.5 for you.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/01/2013 22:32

Thanks Alaska. Glad you had a good time last night. No half sizes for the style I wanted, sadly.

frazzled74 · 11/01/2013 22:39

well hands and feet are looking respectable! I bought some bb cream today and intend to wear makeup all weekend, Ive also bought a hair dye so that i can sort out my roots, thinking about giving myself the mumsnet haircut but not sure if im brave enough! the rest of you sound like you have lovely clothes, I really need to stop wearing jeans and shapeless tops!

GuyMartinsSideburns · 12/01/2013 11:38

Trampy ooh well done on the blazer! Ive got a black one and an orange one with teeny elephants on Blush so roll on the spring and I shall dig them out of my wardrobe instead of 'saving' them for best. God knows why I do that!

Today Im wearing the same knitted dress as yesterday but with clean leggings and long sleeved black top... lol Im wearing a light brown pashmina as a scarf too. My hands are so cold but Ive just found I cant type with gloves on. Hmm

Usual makeup, I also use a cheapo moisturiser from superdrug, cant remember the exact name but its radiance something in a green tube. Gives a bit of a nice glow and I then put a little bb over the top and powder. I had some of that benefit 'that gal' and when that ran out I found this was a suitable and mucho cheaper alternative. Makes me look dewey and lovely dh says Grin Powder blusher, mascara. If I go out I'll go for an orange shade of lippy, brighten up my day a bit! I cant wait for the warmer weather, I wear a LOT of orange! Skinny orange trousers brighten my day like nothing else!

Grin
GuyMartinsSideburns · 12/01/2013 11:40

Whoknows - glad to read Zumba was fun! Well done for going Smile

Frazzled youve reminded me to tidy up my fingernails later, Im hoping theyre now at a nice length to put some colour on.

cjbk1 · 12/01/2013 13:26

It honestly makes you feel better when you look nice doesn't it?

minimumthebare · 12/01/2013 15:46

Nails still super shiny from yesterday, I might do some more top coat tomorrow to help keep the colour going-I'd love it if I could just have them done once a week.

I'm wearing a cream/blue striped breton top from Boden, dark jeans, proper make up and remembered to use some volumising mousse this morning before I dried my hair, so it's kept the shape really well.

Off to take my vitamins for the day, have had a good 90 minute walk with the baby, so think I can tick exercise on the list!

Can anyone recommend a scarf tutorial on youtube? I have some great scarvesm just don't seem to be wearing them very well.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/01/2013 17:02

Look at Wendy's Lookbook blog for an excellent scarf video.

Wearing - black skinnies, grey long sleeved t-shirt, black cowl neck jumper, khaki parka, black bikers, khaki and black skull print scarf (total McQueen copy). I managed to find some shoes massively reduced in House of Fraser, so v pleased and hope that they are not too uncomfortable! They are quite high.

Has anybody heard of Cargo makeup btw? There were some huge reductions on

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/01/2013 17:03

t posted before I was finished!

Cargo - huge reductions in Boots. I didn't buy any because I'd never heard of it. I might have a google and see if it's worth going back!

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 12/01/2013 17:58

Evening everyone, I have had such a lazy day today, i'm actually wearing lovely modal material black pjs that have sequins on they look like loungewear, I have teamed this eith a subtle gold cardigan. My hair is still curly from yesterday and I have just bunged it up into a ponytail. I have still put a little make-up on. Haven't been anywhere, I've had quite a lot to sort out at home. I am just about to start an absolute mountain of ironning.
I did however go to sainsburys yesterday and picked up a new bra and matching knickers and another set of lacy black ones. I had a little look through for plain black work clothes, I quite fancy a peplum shape top and also a nice silky plain tee style.
Does anyone know what the "Gok" jeans are like for fit?
Oh well on with the ironning then once I have got the Dc to bed I will reward myself with a bubble bath and a glass of something lovely.
