Make up for crepeys

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 16/12/2012 11:43

hello. After a dispiriting trawl through YouTube I really feel I need the advice of some fellow crepeys on make up. Most official brands demonstrate the full face make up on someone who is already flawless. So can you talk me through a full make up for a 47 year old person with lines under the eyes, lines at the side of the mouth, bags, wrinkles and a large glass of wine in one hand. I usually bang on some eye pencil and lippy and that's it.

Have you tried mineral powder make foundation? it sounds like it would make wrinles look worse, but it really doesn't. Makes you look so even skinned that you ned less of everything else.

Cybbo · 16/12/2012 11:50

I'm 42 and slightly creepy round the edges. I have been experimenting with wearing less make up (foundation especially) and I have t say it makes me look younger and fresher. Cindy Crawford does it too, so proof positive.

I moisturise with a mild facial fake tan justvtobtake grey parlour away

Bung on some Avon Skin Perfector primer to minimise pores and stop shine

THEN I do my eye make up, before I've done concealer. This is key I reckon. I bulk out my brows with my eyebrow pen/pencil (sharp) . Having thicker brows makes you look younger.

THEN bung some caramel coloured eyeshadow in my eye sockets to add...eye sockets and pop some undery eyes by lashed. Eye pencil. Top lashes only

Curl and masses of mascara, black. Top and bottom.

THEN I put concealer on under my eyes and on any red patches on face. Bit of pink blusher, crucial. Pop a smidge of powder. Lip gloss, hey ho ready to go

Well done for reading this far

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 16/12/2012 11:54

I haven't tried much and what I have was a few years ago and forgotten brands and products.
Ok concealer on red patches. Then what kind of powder? And powder blusher?

I am 42 too. Bloody allergic to everything. I do OCM, bung on some homemade moisturiser, mineral powder foundation, tiny bit of eye shadow and liner, curl and mascara and then tidy up blonde eyebrows with a bit of pencil. I do the OCM at night and just plain water in the mornings so only takes 5 minutes, 10 at the most.

I find the mineral powder negates the need for concealers.

ggirl · 16/12/2012 12:09

I'm 50 ..and fabulous btw dahlink Wink

I don't wear foundation as it ages me , only wear tinted moisturiser , atm it's no7 for greasy skin one or clarins

the clarins ones look like you will be orange but you don't need to put much on and they honestly look good, great coverage and very flattering to the skin

mineral makeup is good as well but avoid putting on under eye area..they say you can but I've tried loads and it just isn't a good look

i use aldi version of touche eclat on top of an eye moisturiser to make me look alive

i use bobbi brown gel eyeliner underneath my top lashes shows you how here

blusher ..i use benefit cheek stain for that fresh recently shagged look..you only need a teeny amount

for work i leave it at that , add beige eyeshadow in sockets like cybbo and maybe a bronzy eyeliner when I am making an effort

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 16/12/2012 12:10

Does mineral powder not sit in the lines?

Does tinted moisturiser replace your ordinary? If so is it suitable for mature skin?

OP posts:
ggirl · 16/12/2012 12:17

it does for me cos I have an oily t-zone so too much moisture and it slides off by the middle of the day

i use a hyalarunic (don't know how to spell) serum under as it isn't greasy

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 16/12/2012 12:18

I have dry skin.

OP posts:
laptopcomputer · 16/12/2012 12:20

Mineral powder doesn't sit in the lines, it behaves very differently from "normal" powder makeups. In my experience anyway :-)

ggirl · 16/12/2012 12:24

if you've got very dry skin clarins do an amzingly rich tinted moisturiser..i've had it before and it's designed for mature skin but it was too greasy for me
very £££ but good

i use this one

these are really good as well and you can get matched for the right colour

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 16/12/2012 12:25

I'm guessing there is no definitive answer Xmas Grin.
What does anyone say to just going to say, the No.7 counter, getting a full make and buying the lot? Will they know about what's good for the older fabulous woman?
God it's a minefield.

Yikes to the Clarins! I used to use Clarins moisturiser, long ago when I must have had cash.
Thanks for all the links. I am feeling slightly reassured that I can do this.

I'll second the super restorative tinted moisturiser.
Bit of primer first (this helps fill lines and keep make up on) then just apply small amount starting on nose an blending out. This should stop you getting a 'tide mark'.
Try using eyeshaddow along lash line instead of pencil as its much softer.

IAmSheWhoMustBeObeyed · 16/12/2012 12:43

Primer, can I use polyfilla?
Ok I am off to the make up counters of deepest Kent.

MariahScarey · 16/12/2012 12:45

i think tinted moisturiser is a bit Emperor's new clothes.

ggirl · 16/12/2012 12:56
