Is eye cream a big con?

I have always used normal moisturiser on my whole face, including eye area. But now I realise I have crepey skin around my eyes when I smile. I'm 38.

I am a bit sceptical about the claims made by skincare companies re antiageing, but I do wonder if eye cream is somehow better than normal moisturiser on the eye area.

What do you think?

Gok wan did a test on eye creams a while back. I don't think the results were that great tbh.

Every eye cream I have tried has given me milia (sp?) so I don't bother.

I think you needed to start using it when you were 22 for your to see the effects now.

It might make your skin smoother to apply shadow etc but it won't get rid of wrinkles.

The only thing that works is using a sun screen every day from your teens onwards. Clinique City Block can be used on eyelids.

I have never found them good but weirdly after using a sample of the L'Occitane super expensive eye gel I suddenly noticed I looked you get brighter and less tired. And my DH noticed too. It really surprised me.

I have dark baggy circles and lines, I am 39. I haven't bought the cream (it's ridiculously expensive) but I was tempted. If it was cheaper I would.

So, I dunno.

Younger, I looked younger.

I think they make a slight difference.

The best I have tried is clinique even better dh even noticed a difference, but that was more a difference in dark circles.

In theory, if you believe in moisturiser over the rest of your face, then it should work. Eye cream is usually a different formulation...using a moisturiser over your eyes that is too rich can result in pockets of fatty residue being left behind. Cashmere it might have been too rich for your eyes, resulting in the millia. But if anyone finds a really fab eye cream for over 50's, please let me know....

I've been using Clinique's All About Eyes since I was about 26 (had a sample and loved the silky feeling it left). Not every day - probably about twice a week. I'm now 43 and don't have wrinkles BUT is that down to using the cream or just my skin? I'll never know will I?

And before you get jealous of my non wrinkles, I still get spots and am getting jowly!

Oily/combination skin ages more slowly than dry skin. Good skin, ie relatively unwrinkly is down to about 60% genes, 40% care.

I've been using a free sample of Clarins Beauty Flash eye cream and it does smooth out my fine dryness lines and brighten the skin round my eyes, making me look more awake. I guess its just the moisture plumping the skin and leaving a sheen but its nice :)

I really really like this eucerin one.I am 50 and have noticed an improvement in the uder eye area using this one.

Some I find have too much water in them and do nowt.

You can also use a normal Hyaluron serum in the eye area as well, I use bravura's it does go on offer at times.

I also use retin a cream so it's probably amixture of all of them that has worked.

I do use the eye cream every morning to rehydrate the skin around my eyes.

What is good for the face is good for the eye area also.

It was invented so they could charge you £££££££££s for a tiny pot of ordinary moisturizer.

You are a sucker if you buy it.

The thing about fatty residue in eyes is also bollocks. The skin round your eyes is not different to the skin anywhere else, how could a moisturiser penetrate through your skin and put fat beneath it?

Clonique skin products are all packed with silicone, which is harmless, it just puts a temporary thin layer of silicone over the skin, hence the silky feeling.

Not a reason not to use it, but the effect is temporary ( silicome is often used as a primer as well, as it makes skin look more smooth).

I use eye cream as I have such dry skin aroidn the eyes, I find Bodyshop Wisewoman pretty harmless, it does the job, but only buy at half price online when they have an offer.

I also once bought the Imortelle one from l Occitane, which was very nice ( until my sister came to stay and liberally applied it daily, raving about it, and leaving me just a tiny bit...)

So if you find a nice gently moisturising one, it does feel nice.

another vote for the Eucerin Hyaluron filler, it's excellent. Vichy's eye creams are also uniformly effective, in my experience.

if you use Roc eye cream, it works you can get it on ebay for cheap! i've used it for ten years and my eyes aren't wrinkly compared to my friends...

My eyes puff up if I use my usual heavy face moisturiser on them. The skin there is definitely different, so I can see the argument for using a different cream on them.

I've just started using Clinique All About Eyes, TBH I have always been skeptical about eye creams but I really think this one has lessened my lines.

I have quite creased eyes though, a remnant of reading far too much when I should have been asleep!

But the real test is- if those of you who think they work, stop using them and see if your wrinkles come back in a few days or weeks.

Most eye creams just plump up the skin and stop moisture evaporating- same as all moisturisers.

I'm 50s and have no wrinkles at all except for a few tiny ones at the corners of my eyes. My eye lids are slightly lined but that was due to using steroid cream for eczema- even 0.5 % did some damage.

Keeping the UV rays off your skin is really the best you can do, and avoiding squinting too much so that you don't end up with expression lines !

It's impossible to tell, you only get one life so you have no way of knowing whether the choices you made were better than the choices you rejected.

Judge what feels nice and looks good and weigh up whether it's worth the money. The L'occitane one is the only one to have changed my appearance noticably in terms of eye cream. Neals Yard Beauty Sleep garnered me lots of compliments on my skin after a week of using.

I think the perfect anything is a bit of a holy grail though.

Why don't you look at the ingredients on your eye cream? What does it contain that is specific to the eye? If you use a moisturizer on your face why is it not good enough for they eye? Maybe you prefer a different texture round your eye to the face? that's fair enough, but don't kid yourself it will reduce your wrinkles more than your face cream. If your eye cream is better than your face cream you need to look at changing your face cream for a better one, as eye creams come in such tiny pots you can be nothing more than ripped of.
