My poor hands are dry & cracked to the point of bleeding at the knuckles. Please can someone point me in the right direction of a good hand cream?

Clarins Jeunesse des Mains is a must-have for me. It's thick, protective, smells divine and is very effective.

Doshusallie · 02/12/2012 19:14

Jo malone's is lovely. £30 though. I just bought an almond one from The Body Shop today, really nice, and reduced at the moment from £10 to £5.

Bella88 · 02/12/2012 19:20

L'Occitane shea butter handcream is ridiculously rich and soothing.

Rattitude · 02/12/2012 19:21

L'Occitane's cream always gets very good reviews on MN.

shrimponastick · 02/12/2012 19:24

Body Shop Hemp hand cream. It is excellent.

Also a Dr Organics, royal jelly ? Cream. Also very rich. from Holland & Battery.

I love hand cream.

Another vote for Clarins. If too spendy then Soap and Glory Hand Food - smells lovely and does the job.

MrsJingleBells74 · 02/12/2012 20:34

Sorry I'm laughing at Holland and Battery!

I love the smell of the Clarins one but not sure I can justify the expense at the moment but will have a look at the other ones.

Astra - seriously.

Wolfiefan · 02/12/2012 21:18

Neutrogena
Also gloves in a bottle! Yes it's called that. Not a cream but a barrier lotion that stops hands drying out more.

Wolfiefan · 02/12/2012 21:19

And body shop also does hemp oil. I use that then the hand cream and cotton gloves on at night.
Vv dry of hands!!

MidnightHag · 02/12/2012 21:19

Aveeno or Atrixo: you don't have to spend £££s.

Cezzy · 02/12/2012 21:22

L'occitane is lovely but DH suffers badly in winter and swears by Neutrogena and at least it's cheap

FairPhyllis · 02/12/2012 21:22

Superdrug does quite a good one - I don't know what the name is but it's their own brand and is in a pink container. It absorbs much better than any other cheapo one I've used.

Djembe · 02/12/2012 21:22

Nutogena if they're really bad.

L'Occitane Shea Butter one is lovely too.

EugenesAxeChoppedDownANiceTree · 02/12/2012 21:23

Thanks - I too get knuckle splitting.

JingleBells - you have my sympathy! I was forced to watch that rower's 'Extreme Adventures' and there was one where he was dropping iodine on burst blisters on his hands. He was doubled up and I inwardly thought 'Tch... typical bloody man', but I feel bad now as my finger cracks sting like nothing on earth!!

1stMrsF · 02/12/2012 21:24

Garnier Hand Repair is the only thing thats stopped the cracked and bleeding thing. I used it lots to start off and now morning and night seems to prevent it. Is only about £3 too. I also reccommend lanolin (as in nipple cream) for clearing up cracks overnight.

CQuin · 02/12/2012 21:24

Argan oil

RibenaFiend · 02/12/2012 21:25

Sorry, it's not posh but Nivia's intensive hand cream is fantastic for me and asda sell the mini tube for £1

YouOldSlag · 02/12/2012 21:26

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula. Fantastic and affordable.

Masalamama · 02/12/2012 21:32

L'Occitane Shea butter. But when mine crack, the only thing that works is Sudacrem...

Chubfuddler · 02/12/2012 21:33

Kheils. Or it might be keihls. It's v v good.

acsec · 02/12/2012 21:35

Neutrogena concentrated hand cream is excellent. I get terribly dry hands in winter and I use this before bed and they are much better in the morning, then I use the Neutrogena daily cream during the day.

orangina · 02/12/2012 22:06

Avene is the best. Tip top and not too expensive....

DonnaRoll · 02/12/2012 22:26

Aveeno is very good for dry hands. I am using this at the moment as my hands become very dry and chapped during winter. GP prescribed Double Base Gel when I had eczema on my hands, very greasy though.

Djembe · 02/12/2012 22:50

As a side note, I think the Clarins one stinks! Most overrated product I think. Smells of old ladies and not even v effective.
