A mascara on your bottom lashes question.

I only wear it on top lashes but read that I should wear it on lower lashes to open up my eyes. How do you stop it smudging? I tried it this morning and already have mascara marks underneath.

Put a tissue under bottom lashes when applying

IslaValargeone · 01/12/2012 13:41

I didn't smudge it when I applied it, it has deposited itself on my skin since, with all the eyelash fluttering. Maybe I'm too greasy and sweaty :o

Put some matte face powder under the eye area Smile

GlitKnit · 01/12/2012 13:50

yy always on bottom or you look freaky.. LOOK UP when you do it

DownByTheOcean · 01/12/2012 13:52

Always top and bottom. It depends on type of mascara as to whether mine smudges. Lancome never gives me any problems, clinique can have panda effect. Maybelline also good if on a budget.

IslaValargeone · 01/12/2012 13:52

Face powder, good idea.
Glit, don't tell me that, I've spent all these years looking freaky.
I feel a bit overdone with it on bottom lashes?

I use jemma kidd 3day mascara on the bottom cos others end up smudging, don't know if it's still available , you could use an eyelash dye on the bottom.

MrsCampbellBlack · 01/12/2012 14:08

I never do bottom lashes and don't look too freaky.

Powder under my eyes would make me look wrinkly.

PoppyWearer · 01/12/2012 14:12

I never do bottom lashes either. I think I look ok without!

ohfunnyface · 01/12/2012 14:13

I find using old mascara works better as it's lighter and less likely to smudge, wish I had the time/money to just tint and curl.

Whitershadeofpale · 01/12/2012 14:16

I used to have this problem and now use clinque bottom lash mascara. It has a tiny brush so you can get all of the lashes and it sort of covers them in a tube so no smudging. It also doesn't thinking which I think is more flattering on bottom lashes.

IslaValargeone · 01/12/2012 14:17

I might just dye them then I think, I can't be doing with panda paranoia and yes MrsCB, I think I may also be at risk of emphasising wrinkles too.

I was always told that putting mascara on top lashes only opened the eyes up, so I rarely do the bottom ones. Daft considering I have big eyes anyway. But if I do I powder under my eyes.

chipsandpeas · 01/12/2012 14:37

i use clear mascara on bottom lashes as if i used the same stuff i use on my top lashes regardless i'd have the panda look

wonkylegs · 01/12/2012 14:37

I only wear it on the top lashes in the day but both if I'm going out. This is because it's just too much, I'm extremely pale with extremely long blonde lashes so emphasis can be very striking and needs to be combined with the right eye make up otherwise I look clownish and very startled.
I find that Tesco Barbara daly waterproof mascara doesn't smudge too badly when on lower lashes (also cheap)

anotheryearolder · 01/12/2012 14:44

Always top and bottom.
Apply 2 coats and then do the bottom without putting the wand back in the tube.
It stops them being gloopy and smudging

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/12/2012 20:55

I only do top because my bottom lashes are freakily longer than my top ones and my older sister always used to tell me I looked like I had my eyes on upside-down cowbag

Is it scarily out of date and too 80s to do blue mascara then colour the tips with black?
Or black and tip with blue (I've got brown eyes and I think it looks lush it looks quite striking)

MaggieMaggieMaggieMcGill · 01/12/2012 20:59

I would never put mascara on my bottom lashes, mo offence to anyone but I think if I did I would end up looking like a blow up doll. Putting light eyeshadow into the arch of your eyebrow makes your eyes look bigger and more open.

LindtReindeerLover · 01/12/2012 21:04

I never ever wear mascara on bottom lashes, hate the way it feels. Didn't even wear it on my wedding day. Have never felt I look odd or that my eyes are not opened up so just stick with your preference.

MrsSnow · 01/12/2012 21:05

I don't do my bottom lashes either. Time to change?

smokinaces · 01/12/2012 21:10

I do bottom lashes. I coat top and then put a little on bottom without putting more on wand iyswim. I then do a second coat on top, but never bottom. Never been told I look clown like, but I have very dark eyes and lashes. I use miss sixty £3.49 mascara after years of hunting for a decent non clumpy lenghtening and volume building one. Love it and never smudges

TeaBrick · 01/12/2012 21:16

I sometimes do top and bottom, sometimes top only. It depends how the mood takes me. I never have problems with it smudging though. Do you leave time after putting your moisturiser on for it to be absorbed so no greasiness under the eyes?

kaumana · 01/12/2012 21:19

I only do the top lashes unless going on a night out when I do a more smoky eye otherwise I look like a plastic doll/ doe eyed cow.

Sleepwhenidie · 01/12/2012 21:24

Never bottom lashes, looks too obviously made up/dolly for me.

noddyholder · 01/12/2012 21:39

Never do bottom here either
