Uggs - are they really that bad?

After a class war broke out on another completely unrelated thread, it came up that UGGs are considered a serious no-no on MN. I must confess to owning two pairs (one black and one brown) and as a WFHM I wear them all winter provided it is dry. They are the comfiest, warmest shoes I've ever had. They are like slippers but for outside! I don't wear them on the outside of my trousers, this is a look I don't like, but inside a boot leg I consider them harmless.

Am I deluding myself and walking around in the winter version of crocs?

They are very comfortable. I wear mine to walk the dog sometimes which can be 5-6 miles and they are great.

Sparkles23 · 22/11/2012 18:23

I love my uggs! I have a brown short pair and wear them over skinny jeans and leggings and think they look fine, would never ever wear a fake pair though I think they look vile!! I bought my 2 year old a pair of sheepskin boots (not Ugg though) Emu I think- and he loves them, they should keep his feet nice and toasty through the winter!

Kecca · 22/11/2012 18:28

Please ladies, for the sake of humanity - throw away those Uggs and Crocs unless you need to wear them for medical purposes! Uggs are ugly - face it they do nothing for twig thin people let alone anyone else. They are dreadful for posture - children should never wear them, you will all end up walking like tramps - take pride in yourselves!

Wear them if you like them.

Don't wear them if you don't like them

mummysmellsofsick · 22/11/2012 19:07

I started an ugg appreciation thread a couple of weeks ago after realising that mumsnet had made me not get my uggs out this year for fear of uggjudgement. I can't believe I nearly let s&b deprive my feet of their luscious uggy goodness. I will now be wearing mine (tall chocolate kenleys) with pride and with happy feet all winter Grin

ChardonnayGirl2 · 22/11/2012 19:51

I love my Uggs, am retiring my brown cardi ones after 4 years and have just bought some black sequinned ones, putting new Uggs on is akin to a sexual experience Grin

Cherylkerl · 22/11/2012 19:57

I think they have their place. They don't look sexy but by god are they comfy. I wear heels on the office all week and if I go out-out. For a chilly (and dry!) commute (I change into my heels and they do look ridiculous with my work wear, but meh...) or if I'm dashing to the supermarket or dry cleaners they do just the trick. DP hates them with a passion but his feet are comfy all week, he can piss off if he thinks I'm being all uncomfy at weekends. There is something so comforting about them.

I personally find most comfy shoes ugly or impractical anyway. Ballet shoes - pretty enough, but soak up rainwater and bad for your feet long term, Converse and trainers - I own but I'm not really a trainers girl and I look stupid with Converse with skinny jeans - mostly cos I'm not used to that look.

VinaApsara · 22/11/2012 20:08

I have splashed out on my first pair of Ugg boots this year - not the sheepskin ones but rather some new style biker Uggs (Ugg Tatum). I never thought I'd love a pair of boots so much - they were £££££ but will last for ever and are the bee's knees.

gorgeous boots

Rudolphstolemycarrots · 22/11/2012 20:12

I love them but my Mum (who is not very stylish at all in my eyes) wears them aged 69

bishboschone · 22/11/2012 20:12

Kecca.. That is such a stuck up statement . You are not better than us because you don't wear uggs .. Not wearing uggs doesn't make you prettier , cleverer , more stylish or thinner than me .. Get over yourself !!

bishboschone · 22/11/2012 20:12

Love those vina !!

Teahouse · 22/11/2012 20:25

My Uggs are my slippers...only ever wear them outside the house in the snow so very rarely as I live in the South.
My Uggs came with a free pair of silver Tiffany earrings and were stupidly cheap...best pair of slippers I have ever had

MandaHugNKiss · 22/11/2012 21:01

I currently have three pairs (tall grey classic, chestnut maylin and chestnut bailey (short)), and a pair of their slippers. I very rarely walk anywhere these days, particularly 'in the elements' but once I am again (when DS3 starts school...) I'll get another pair. Probably kensingtons.

I wear them in fine weather, too (with short cut off denim but not so short my arse cheeks hang out. Wtf is that all about? ) and despite how they might look to non-affcienados... they are NOT hot/sweaty! The sheepskin somehow insulates in the cold and wicks heat away when warm. I guess thats why we traditionally use sheepskin for babies to lay on.

tostaky · 22/11/2012 21:48

Team "no uggs" here because "everybody" seems to have them (uggs or cheaper copy). And also because I'm always out and about and I don't have the time to worry about shoes. I don't care if my (Adidas) trainers get muddy or wet in the park. And I have a very nice pair of Kurt Geiger boots to wear with skirts or jeans. That's why I don't need uggs.

CheerfulYank · 22/11/2012 22:11

I don't have Uggs but would love some...it gets bitterly cold here (Minnesota) and they'd be lovely!

CheerfulYank · 22/11/2012 22:12

AND I wear bootcut jeans. If I ever get tall boots (which I may one of these days) I will wear skinny jeans, and not a moment before.

Threelittleducks · 22/11/2012 22:28

Nooooo! I considered them for a millisecond, but I need practical jump-on-the-mud boots.
And I hate crocs. Yuck.

FromEsme · 22/11/2012 22:36

Hate Uggs, they are grim, especially when they collapse in on themselves and people walk along on the inside of the sole.

thoroughlymodernmillie · 22/11/2012 22:40

I've had two pair of uggs. One suede, which were fab and one knitted pair, not so fab. I have on christmas list a pair of Kensingtons. Some people may say they are carved from the feet of a womble, but I think they are fab and have done my chilblains the world of good.

scottishmummy · 22/11/2012 22:44

i associate uggs with wag types,skinny jeans,big sunnies,and style of a hobo
uggs are bad for gait, inadequate support can cause plantar fasciitis

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 22/11/2012 22:58

Go on, tell us what that is scottishmummy.

Djembe · 22/11/2012 23:01

I want some, so much... I just can't get over the fact that the rain would trash them. I think I'd have to wear them as slippers.

Freshbloodletticia · 22/11/2012 23:10

Those Ugg Kensingtons are a direct copy of my old Oxygene boots.

TooMuchRain · 22/11/2012 23:10

I think they look ugly and I have noticed a definite Ugg-shuffle gait - but I have never tried any on so it may be ignorance that blinds me to how wonderful they are Smile
