Find Me a Dress Plz?

Hedwig06 · 19/11/2012 10:41

We as a family have been invited to a 40th Wedding Anniversary party.

Problem is I don't own a dress or heels.
I don't like going clothes shopping, so would prefer to buy online
I am a size 14-16 depending on where I shop
I have huge norks :(
I have a huge bum :(

I would like a dress to hide my shape preferable, but bloody Dresspi, keeps advising skin tight dress, which I wouldn't wear in a million years.

This will also be the 1st time I've been out in about 10 years, and last time I went out I wore a pair of black bootcut trousers and a white jumper, I need something a bit more dressy this time.

Can anyone help me find a nice dress and shoes please?

There are pictures on my profile, please don't laugh or point out my daughters very messy room Grin

Thank you x

You have a fab hourglass figure...I'm no expert but I'd have thought fifties/Mad men type styling would suit you well. You could probably rock a pencil skirt but if you'd rather hide your figure (but I think you should flatter it, not hide it) maybe nipped a fitted (but not skintight top) and a flared skirt could look lovely.
What's your budget and do you like colour?

Northumberlandlass · 19/11/2012 11:00

I agree Cathy - great shape!

I think it was MrsArseBiscuit who posted about a dress she got from this site www.pinupgirlclothing.com

You could rock this style!

This is one of my favourite's too - I've got the dress for my 40th from here (have I mentioned I'm nearly 40 Grin )

Hedwig06 · 19/11/2012 11:03

Thanks Cathy, I was thinking towards a 50's dress, at my daughters suggestion.

The budget, I'm not made of money but I do want to look nice for a change, so anything reasonable I'll have a look at.

As to colour, I usually wear black, blue, grey, sometimes a pink top that's it really, I think its going to be a shock to see me in a dress & heels, that maybe not too bright with the colour.

Thanks x

Northumberland: OMG no way would I wear that 1st dress Grin
It is lovely though if your are brave enough.

I do like the Alika dress in black from your 2nd link though, that's what I was leaning towards.

Thanks for links x

hedwig the reason dressipi keep recommending skin tight is because with your figure, you would look fabulous.

What you are lacking is confidence. Though you don't like clothes shopping, I really think you should get some ideas and venture out into the high street. See if you can get some good recommendations for a personal shopper.

On the day, get your hair and make up done - that will make you feel more confident too.

Hedwig06 · 19/11/2012 11:34

Thank you World, but i don't think skin tight would look good, and I would be too uncomfortable to enjoy myself.

I was thinking of having a wonder around the shops, but wanted a few ideas of what would look good before I got there, as my mind goes blank and I'll end up bringing another pair of black trousers home or worse a maxi dress, (which was my 1st choice, but my daughter said absolutely no way to)

I like the WC dress but it is more of an every day dress not a party dress. I just had a look on Phase Eight and they had some nice dresses -
dress1
dress2
dress3
dress4

Northumberlandlass · 19/11/2012 11:45

Hmmm, I'm not sure, it's £75 for a dress that doesn't wow me. Have you looked at www.damselinadress.co.uk

I have a couple of dresses from them and they are great quality.

scentednappyhag · 19/11/2012 11:45

this would be gorgeous on you

Hedwig06 · 19/11/2012 12:00

Dexter I love that 1st dress thank you x

North I'll have a look now thanks x

Scented I do like that dress and the price but it looks like it'll cling. But I might go and try it on before I decide against it the colours lovely thank you x

I spotted that Phase Eight one too...
Some other lace ones
Red!...May be a little high necked if you're generous of boobage :)
Mylene Klass
a straighter dress to show your curves but won't be clingy

But got to say I love, love love that Monica one from America...quite tempted by the black one myself!

Hedwig06 · 19/11/2012 12:20

Cathy I like your 3rd link it's lovely it doesn't look like it would cling too a much. I'll have to order a couple and take it from there.
I'm getting butterflies Grin
I never buy myself dressed and there's too many to choose from - thanks for all your help and links.
I'll post a couple of pictures when they arrive to ask your opinion again x
