So last week i visited the style advisor and this is what i came away with, only a few bits but very expensive - I usually shop at next, new look & fat face.

I'm wanting to have less clothes, but ones i really love, they don't look like anything special on the website infact they look horrible but in real life feel lovely quality and fit me really well and i really love them, am apple shaped, the lady got me to try on lots of shapes to show me what suited me. The clothes have sat in the bag untouched, i feel really uncomfortable with what they cost, my worry is will they wash ok, will i wear them a couple of times and then go off them. I do love them though. Someone talk me in to keeping them.

I agree with Mrs CB about spending money on jeans that fit you well but the NYDJ are a colour which won't be "in" in a few months time. Dump them - buy some others in that colour and save your cash for premium denim that will do more than one season.

miche8 · 29/10/2012 11:31

mrscampbellblack i'm a size 14 apple, 5,6", its a nice length on me, looks quite long and frumpy on the website.

I love my levis curve jeans, but the nyd ones i think are even better, nyd do quite a few styles and yes some are very frumpy, even on the hanger they looked nothing special, i urge you to try them on. I did buy the new look coloured super soft jeans but they felt uncomfortable and i have taken them back.

thanks for all the replies, im off to try on again.

all very mumsy, and expensive! though i guess if you like that..

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/10/2012 11:36

I don't think its mumsy at all - the whistles jumper in particular is gorgeous.

enjoyingscience · 29/10/2012 11:36

The whistles jumper and jogsaw dress I would keep - they are classic and they look nice quality.

The jeans and the mint velvet jumper I would return and get off brand equivalents. (I must confess to having an irrational dislike of mint velvet. Everything just looks creased and tatty to me.)

It sounds like you've got a better idea of what suits you, so you'll probably start spotting things in 'normal' shops that appeal now!

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/10/2012 11:40

Enjoying - I'm the same with mint velvet - strange how some brands just irritate irrationally.

Fairylea · 29/10/2012 11:46

The first jumper is very much like a jumper in next for £20.

I think I'd take back and buy cheaper. But then I am so tight my purse squeaks when I open it.

mycatlikestwiglets · 29/10/2012 12:42

I think expensive jeans are worth every penny provided they fit well - which it sounds as though yours do. I wouldn't send them back on the basis that there are cheaper similar styles around - jeans are something which imo it's worth spending more on. I recently bought some levi's curves after seeing them recommended on here and while they're ok, they're nowhere near as good as the more expensive brands I usually go for. I think the ones you bought are really lovely.

If you like everything, I'd keep it all and think of each item as an investment (but then I tend to spend a lot on clothes so maybe that's easy for me to say). If you will feel guilty or anxious over the cost then perhaps you do need to shop around for cheaper alternatives.

miche8 · 29/10/2012 13:02

well i have tried it all on again, still love it all as much as i did in the shop apart from the knitted stripy dress but thats because i don't wear dresses, so its possible that will be returned. Keeping the rest.

The jeans i am very pleased with so much more comfortable that the cheaper ones out there, decent rise and thick material. They go with quite a bit in my wardobe, i'm just about to cut the labels off and go to next to return all the recent clothes that still have tags on.

Good for you Miche, keep what you love. They are not mumsy! I really like the dress, I would keep that as well even though you don't really wear dresses. That's why external advice can be good as people tend to buy the same things again and again so I would go for it.

Millie1 · 29/10/2012 13:16

Lovely things - really, really nice and definitely not mumsy. The Jigsaw dress looks gorgeous - you might wear it more than you think you will. Sounds like a great experience too!

DonaAna · 29/10/2012 13:27

I would keep everything except the stripy dress (too plain and ordinary/cheap looking somehow - it's the stripes). The rest are lovely basics, the colors slightly unusual in a really good way. Enjoy the purple jeans - they could be your signature style, you don't need to wear what everyone else is wearing.

In my opinion, below a certain price level you will get very nasty materials. I only wear designer jeans - every now and them I try something cheaper, but those pairs do not get worn.

MaureenCognito · 29/10/2012 13:28

you havent tried primark $7 ones

are THE BEST ever
sorry no pound sign

mirpuppet · 29/10/2012 13:56

Congratulations miche8. Glad that you had a good time with stylist and than that you are keeping the items you like.

Good comfortable jeans are hard to find for many people -- so congrats on finding some.

mamij · 29/10/2012 14:02

Some really beautiful items. Well done for snipping the tags and keeping them!

Annianni · 29/10/2012 14:06

If you love them, and they feel nice on, then keep them.

How many times have you bought cheap clothes and not felt nice in them, or only worn them a couple of times?

You'll get your money's worth out of nice, classic pieces.

Tweet2tweet · 29/10/2012 14:06

Lovely, lovey things- I'd keep them all and enjoy the buzz of wearing some clothes that make you feel great.

Wish I could buy them, am def going to keep an eye on the Mint Velvet site for post Christmas sale. Although the lovely top you have is now only available in a size 14 so a great find!

Willabywallaby · 29/10/2012 14:19

I feel the urge to get this done!

MsStaken · 29/10/2012 15:07

Love them all except the dress. v nice. Id buy them if I had the money.

Meggles76 · 29/10/2012 15:18

OP - I'm also trying to buy more well made pieces and only things that I love.

What I would say is that cost does not always equal quality.

Also, it's normal for me to buy stuff, hang it in my wardrobe still with tags and then work out whether it's really for me and is really going to work in my wardrobe. Usually if I haven't worn it within 3 weeks, back it goes.

LFCisTarkaDahl · 29/10/2012 15:23

It sounds like you really love the jeans so keep them.

You can wear them 3 times a week for the next year and you will get your cash worth. Lovely colour.

GeorginaWorsley · 29/10/2012 17:01

Like all but striped dress too.
I like Mint Velvet, agree can be bit grey but that has improved this season I think.

amidaiwish · 29/10/2012 17:05

i'd keep them all except the whistles jumper
jeans that you love are worth the money, you will wear them so much
i think whistles is overpriced and a cashmere jumper- how often will you wear it and handwash it?

mollymole · 29/10/2012 17:11

I love the jeans and the 2 tops, not over keen on the dress. Ignore the miserable/jealous bitches on here telling you to take back the jeans and buy cheapos. If you like them and they fit you KEEP them. The 2 tops will go very nicely with the jeans and with so many other items.
Cashmere can be washed on the gentle wool cycle in the machine -I love cashmere and wear it a lot in winter.
I love to wear the velvet boden skinnies with cashmere jumpers/cardi all winter, and they last for years and years when looked after. Classic, stylish elegance never dates.

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/10/2012 17:34

Agree to washing cashmere in machine on wool cycle with Woollite.

Also if you wear a heattec long sleeved top underneath you don't need to wash jumpers so often.
