So last week i visited the style advisor and this is what i came away with, only a few bits but very expensive - I usually shop at next, new look & fat face.

I'm wanting to have less clothes, but ones i really love, they don't look like anything special on the website infact they look horrible but in real life feel lovely quality and fit me really well and i really love them, am apple shaped, the lady got me to try on lots of shapes to show me what suited me. The clothes have sat in the bag untouched, i feel really uncomfortable with what they cost, my worry is will they wash ok, will i wear them a couple of times and then go off them. I do love them though. Someone talk me in to keeping them.

Have come to conclusion some things are worth paying money for, imo.
Hate cheapo (and that doesn't always mean inexpensive) stuff that looks poorly made,in horrible fabrics.

dexter73 · 29/10/2012 17:58

mollymole - I wasn't suggesting that the op should take back her jeans because I am a miserable, jealous bitch Hmm it was because she said she was uncomfortable with the cost of them so I was just suggesting she could get something cheaper. How rude of you!

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/10/2012 18:02

Have you been on the gin molly? Wink This is S&B after all we don't do bitch talk [well not often]

BrandyAlexander · 29/10/2012 18:08

I liked them all, except the dress but more because I don't think it would look good on me...I was nodding to everyone else :). Glad you're keeping them. They're not "mumsy" at all.

niminypiminy · 29/10/2012 18:43

I tried on a pair each of the M&S jeggings recommended on here, both the zip up ones(not on the waist at all, nasty harsh colour) and burgundy pull-on ones (really nasty material, baggy waist, had to roll them up four times to be the right length, material didn't lie flat but folded around the knees). In short, they were both incredibly unflattering, and wouldn't have been worth it even if M&S were paying me to take them away.

MaureenLove · 29/10/2012 18:45

But mum jeans. NO FUCKING WAY

dexter73 · 29/10/2012 18:46

Maureen you're just jealous.

Viviennemary · 29/10/2012 18:50

I love the striped jersey dress. The jeggings seem really expensive and will that grey jumper wash well. I don't think I'd keep the jeggings as they are nothing special for the price but if I could afford to I'd keep the rest if I were you.

MrsVincentPrice · 29/10/2012 18:56

If the jeans fit perfectly and flatter you then definitely keep them. How many hours would you have to spend traipsing round the shops trying on cheap imitations that don't actually fit and getting depressed? How highly do you value your time, and self-esteem?

I love the Mint Velvet jumper, personally would have ditched the Whistles one because I never get my money's worth out of cashmere, I CBA to hand wash it so I don't wear it, and I end up destroying it no matter how careful I am.

CockBollocks · 29/10/2012 19:05

If you love them, feel great in them and havent sold a child to buy them then you should keep them. I have a nightmare with jeans, to find a pair that there isn't one thing that bugs you is worth every penny imho.

Personally i'm not keen on the Mint Velvet jumper, even the model looks bored!! Very poor camera work [hgrin]

Numberlock · 29/10/2012 19:12

I'm afraid it all looks a bit bland and shapeless for that kind of money! I had a JL makeover, bought a couple of bits but mainly took her advice and bought it for a fraction of the price in H&M. Can really recommend the service though, gave me some good advice.

MaureenLove · 29/10/2012 19:14

I machine wash

AmberNectarine · 29/10/2012 19:15

I'm all for spending more, buying less though I tend to spend more, buy more.

I was thinking about this the other day, and I have never, ever genuinely loved a cheap item of clothing. My Goldsign skinny jeans are super expensive, but cannot even be compared to high street. It is worth spending on premium.

dexter73 · 29/10/2012 19:18

I'm the opposite - My favourite clothes are all quite cheap. Maybe that is because I only ever spend lots on something quite plain that I will get a lot of wear out of whereas I might love a mad tie dye top that I bought in the sale at Zara costing £10. My favourite jeans are from Uniqlo, much better than my 7's.

slalomsuki · 29/10/2012 19:57

Jeans are great. I love my NYD jeans as they are so comfortable, wash well and wear well.

Not so keen on the rest of the things though.

MadBusLadyHauntsTheMetro · 29/10/2012 20:03

I had a fishtail pencil skirt once, in a very thick, luxurious stretch cotton with a sort of black pattern over very dark khaki. Sort of toile de jouy ish (it was 2003). It cost £14.99 from Hennes and was hands-down the most stunning, well-fitting, multi-purpose, hard-wearing, expensive-looking thing I have ever owned, and I wore it till I got too big for it. [hblush]

I was talking about this to a friend the other day, and we both think that when we were really on our uppers with money we used to shop a lot more carefully, and do a lot more browsing without buying.

Spookey80 · 29/10/2012 20:15

I too agree that if you like the jeans keep them. I know there are cheaper similar alternatives, but the hassale of I finding them and trying on etc can be a nightmare, and its all about how they feel. Others may not feel as nice and then you won't want to put them on so much, and therefore won't get the wear.
However, I wold be unsure about spending that much on a coloured jean, when that colour will not seem so current come spring. If you don't mind and can afford it, go for it.
All nice things.....it's all about how you feel, if they make you feel nice, that's def worth the dosh!
