I sprayed this on in a department store the other day because I had never smelt it before and had heard it was a classic. Wasn't sure at first but when it had settled down a bit I LOVED it, it smelt like Christmas and I kept sniffing my arm for the rest of the day!

It does seem to be a bit of a "marmite" perfume -I have seen it mentioned on here. On the thread about "Worst Perfumes" the other day, and also just now on a thread about smells that should be nice that aren't.

I don't want to make people feel sick as I walk past them. . . but I really loved it!

Should I treat myself? Or stick to something a bit more subtle?

makes me feel queasy.

BunnyLeBOOwski · 23/10/2012 17:58

After reading rave reviews of it on here I sprayed myself with that Tom Ford one at the airport. And almost boked on the spot.

Absolutely disgusting. Like piss mixed with the worst 99p floral air freshener.

EllieorOllie · 23/10/2012 18:31

M&S now have an amazing fragrance department in some of their larger stores. They stock a range called Les Senteurs Gourmandes who seem to specialise in vanilla based fragrances. One is Vanilla and Chocolate and it has all the lovely notes of Angel without the migraine inducing ones. I highly recommend it, only didn't buy it because I wanted something spicier. And it's only £20, bargain...

TheCountessOlenska · 23/10/2012 18:42

Oooh sounds good Ellie thanks, will check it out!

Have got a nice summery M&S one called Azure Breeze.

But it really doesn't matter what I think!! If you love it, buy it or even better get someone else to buy it for you. Smile

Each to their own

41notTrendy · 23/10/2012 18:52

I love it. I read the worst perfume thread and saw how unpopular it is. I also love Obsession, which was also lambasted Grin. I also have Paloma Picasso, pomegranate noir and feuilles de tabac by Miller Harris. I love them all and think I've finally found my perfume heaven.

YouOldSlag · 23/10/2012 18:55

41nottrendy- I like Obsession but I get that it can be de trop. One squirt usually lasts all evening.

You can keep Angel, but I'll happily take all the other bottles off your dressing table.

NerdAmigo · 23/10/2012 18:58

Angel is really dated.

TheSquirrelofDoom · 23/10/2012 18:58

I used to love it and wore it a lot for a few years, but now I do find it quite over-powering. I also had Violet Angel for a while and really liked that too. I think there's a Lolita Lempicka fragrance that supposed to be similar to Angel, but don't know if it's not as strong? Sorry that's a bit of a non-commital reply and a very vague suggestion!

I think scent is such a very personal thing, and if you really like it then you should wear it Smile

toddlerama · 23/10/2012 19:01

It was killer when I worked on a perfume counter - one sample squirt and I couldn't smell anything else all day. I guess if you want people to know you're coming... Confused

YouOldSlag · 23/10/2012 19:02

For those who like Angel, I tried an M and S one at the weekend, in a very similar coloured box, which smelt exactly the same as Angel. It's not for me, but if you are an Angel fan on a budget, I would recommend it. It was about £14 a bottle.

It must be an excellent match as I remember saying "yuk, that's Angel, isn't it?"

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 23/10/2012 19:02

I love it, havent worn it for a while though - and I do use it sparingly when I do.

When I got married I word this perfume and my bridesmaids wanted to wear it too - so we would all smell the same. Unfortunately on them it smelled like cat piss. I think it depends on your skin pH or something.

juneybean · 23/10/2012 19:03

It smells nice on my mum, but it smells awful on me Hmm

UltraBOF · 23/10/2012 19:04

The Rose D'Angel is very nice, and gets good reviews. I like Angel myself, but I accept that it's not for everyone.

SparePants · 23/10/2012 19:06

Ugh. I was in a meeting today and someone in there was wearing Angel. It made me feel physically sick within a few minutes, and at the end there were a few of us who commented on the stench. I had to go round and open windows.

Definitely a Marmite scent. If you love it, buy it, but please be aware that others may be running away from you making retching noises.

YouOldSlag · 23/10/2012 19:11

It's just horrible.

Question to the people who love it- doesn't it just smell like old chocolate to you?

It smells way too foody for me.

RedTurtle · 23/10/2012 19:16

I wore Angel for over 10 years and had so many compliments on it (and met a number of men who loved it Grin ). But I only ever wore one squirt & I think it really depends on the way a perfume sits on your skin. A friend's mum was once gushing over my perfume & asked me what it was... She was so shocked when I told her it was Angel as she said she had "hated" the smell of it when her daughter wore it & she couldn't believe it was the same perfume.

I have recently found another perfume that I instantly fell in love with & switched to that instead. It is... Black Orchid!! I'm so sorry to the people who get headaches from these perfumes but I just cannot resist them. Again, only one squirt and I don't THINK it smells that strong on me

Lizzylou · 23/10/2012 19:20

I bloody love it and it really suits me, always have compliments when I wear it (once I have revived em). A lot of top fave perfumes smell like diluted baby wee to me.
Perhaps the Angel has just numbed my nostrils???

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 23/10/2012 20:15

Countess, you like the same fragrances as me. I've worn Angel for years and still love it (used sparingly) I also wear Azure Breeze - my MIL bought me it and apparently it's a copy of D&G Light Blue so I'm considering that for my next purchase - I really like the M&S version but it fades after an hour like all cheap scents so I'd quite like to upgrade to the real thing. Where is the good deal on Angel, BTW?

YouOldSlag · 23/10/2012 20:24

Try Cheapsmells.com or ebay.

Very often ebayers sell unopened bottles of scent they hate, so if it's one of your favourites, you're quids in. I am sooo going perfume shopping on ebay on boxing day!

TheCountessOlenska · 23/10/2012 20:39

TheGirlOnTheLanding Yes I keep Azure Breeze in my handbag as it wears off really quickly - thanks for mentioning Light Blue D&G, I knew it was a copy of something, couldn't remember what!

I work for a department store (not on perfume counter!) so get a discount of 25% Wink

QuinnFabray · 24/10/2012 07:08

I love it, especially the after scent, the day after. I bought a dress from eBay last year and the seller had sprayed the packaging with Angel. I'd never even heard of it before, let alone smelled it, but I was obsessed with this scent and just HAD to know what it was. Honestly, a perfume has never effected me in such a way before. It just really struck a chord with my senses. So I emailed her and asked her.

AmberLeaf · 24/10/2012 07:24

I love it!

It definitely smells different on different people though.

I smelt it in 1995 when it first came out, I then got two bottles for christmas.

Itsgottabebags · 24/10/2012 07:43

Try Markd and Spencers' perfume Truly Cherish as it smells very Angel like and is cheap!

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 24/10/2012 07:46

At a recent family event I walked into the loos and I knew immediately that my aunt had been in before me - to me it is how she smells - I love it but could never wear it, she must have been wearing it for years! It's strange to have a perfume that is so instantly recognisable
