How do you stay warm without a fleece???

I'm not talking to those of you who are still out and about in flip-flops and flimsy dresses!

Anyone who, like me, has had to wear socks and loafers or boots for the last 2 weeks and is dreading it getting colder...

I wanted to make a style effort this morning but in the end I just had to grab a fleece as nothing else I own feels warm enough (and that's for indoors).

Is there any alternative for a wuss like me?

Nice cardigans, I don't own a fleece (or a coat for that matter)

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 19/09/2012 10:47

I have a couple of heavy cotton breton tops which I'm getting a lot of use out of at the moment, and I'm wearing my mac for the school run because it is freezing at 8.15am!

notMarlene · 19/09/2012 10:48

Yup, decent thermal undies.

Iwannamovenow · 19/09/2012 10:49

Vests and nice cardigans, I don't own a fleece either.

MadameOvary · 19/09/2012 10:49

Layers layers layers.
Wristwarmers
Neck scarf

TiggerWearsATriteSmile · 19/09/2012 10:56

I am a fleece around the house girl.

When out I layer, lots of layers!
Long vest tops under shirts or jumpers. Or tight 3/4 sleeve tees depending on what I'm wearing.

Light scarves at the moment, will get chunky ones as the weather cools.
A light but warm jacket or cardigan as the days are changeable.
If my top half is comfortable and warm I'm happy. Layer, layer, layer is the only way.
I'm in my boots since this week.

ChablisLover · 19/09/2012 11:17

layers and thermals

thin Cashmere knitwear also works i find

Have a lovely grey jumper from tesco (lovely & Soft rather than itchy) and its my go to for the cold - got my through the bad winters!

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 19/09/2012 11:19

Layers are your friend.

Nice Cardigan
Long sleeved top
Thermal vest if needed
Nice long neck scarf you can wrap round.

EdMcDunnough · 19/09/2012 11:22

I don't have a fleece, what is a fleece? Does it have a shape? Or do you just mean fleece anything?

I wear vests and tops with long sleeves and then a cardi or jumper on top - with jeans or skirt and tights.

And then a coat.

Kikithecat · 19/09/2012 11:48

Sounds like layering's the way to go. I know fleeces are ugly and uncool, but EdMc you must be ubercool to not even know what a fleece is!! It's a shapeless sort of jacket/cardi made of fleece. Can be very thin and light but still the warmest thing you'll ever wear! (You can see I won't be throwing them out!)

I wear wool its cosy and warm. Wool Fleece thats what sheep have in the winter months and that what I have too even on my feet I have wool socks :)

EverlongYouAreGoldAndOrange · 19/09/2012 12:17

Hmm.

I used to be the fleece woman. Had about 30 of the things in every colour.

But when I had a fleece on I ate like a pig. Mental I know. So I binned them all charity shop and bought lots of long t shirts and jumpers, poncho's, cardigans.

I don't miss them.

iseenodust · 19/09/2012 12:22

Wool definitely.
When really cold a polo neck (wool over cotton t-shirt).

notMarlene · 19/09/2012 12:25

Fleece does seem to be innately depressing. Or is that just me?

valiumredhead · 19/09/2012 12:26

I don't have a fleece! Cardis, layering and scarves are the way to go.

BikeRunSki · 19/09/2012 12:28

Layers of merino and cashmere.

Francagoestohollywood · 19/09/2012 12:51

Fleeces? Aren't fleeces for doing sporty stuff in cold weather, like skiing or walking? Or when the heating is broken in the middle of winter?

Xroads · 19/09/2012 12:53

you can get nice fleeces from bench compare.ebay.co.uk/like/160792927375?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&adtype=pla

Numberlock · 19/09/2012 12:55

nice fleeces

Surely that is an oxymoron, Xroads...

googietheegg · 19/09/2012 12:55

If you don't buy fleece you can't wear fleece. Like biscuits.

badtasteflump · 19/09/2012 12:55

I have a granny jacket fleece which I use for gardening. I once used it on the school run as I forgot a jacket & it was in the car - DC1 saw me coming and said from a distance he thought I was his nanna Shock

Anyway I digress. Winter = lots of layers, pashmina & a jacket (not made of fleece) Smile

Numberlock · 19/09/2012 13:02

Fleece-wearing = given up on life.

dexter73 · 19/09/2012 13:04

Fleece blankets are nice but I wouldn't wera a fleece. I wear thermals and jumpers to keep warm.

monkeysmama · 19/09/2012 13:05

Try sheepskin boot liners too. They stop the cold getting in your feet and moving up.

CointreauVersial · 19/09/2012 13:11

Get yourself to Uniqlo and buy some of their HeatTech tops. Wear them underneath your clothes and you'll be toasty-warm.
