Purplehonesty · 19/09/2012 09:11

Ooh I love it. Never too old for a tea dress

CMOTDibbler · 19/09/2012 09:14

I do think you are too old for it, sorry. Its a look for the under 23's only

whiteandyelloworchid · 19/09/2012 09:15

what about with the over the knee socks?

i'm sure the dress would look fair bit different with tights or leggings

OP posts:
pickledparsnip · 19/09/2012 09:17

Nice dress, but the socks are horrendous.

ujjayi · 19/09/2012 09:18

I love the dress with over the knee socks but that is definitely a look that my fellow (under 20) students wear......I'm 41 and wouldn't. Perhaps you could wear the dress with ankle length leggings and ankle boots? Still a fresher look than regular opaques.

AlwaysOneMissing · 19/09/2012 09:18

I think 34 is a bit too old for the socks too, sorry.

I think the dress would look lovely with tights though.

GoldPedanticPanda · 19/09/2012 09:20

I like it, it's cute. I'm 24 cmot does that mean I've just missed the cut?

whiteandyelloworchid · 19/09/2012 09:21

thing is theres such a short window of opportunity to wear autum type things before it turns freezing!
and your cover head to toe in ahuge coat

The dress is fab.

The socks are for lithe 20 yr olds.

They'd be mutton on a 34 year old.

5madthings · 19/09/2012 09:24

its a lovely dress! joebrowns also do some nice tea dresses. i dont think there is necessarily an age cut off for the socks. i know a few mums that wear them who are in their 30's. their dress style is slightly 'alternative' but they look great :)

TittyWhistles · 19/09/2012 09:24

I really like this look but I would be wearing biker boots not heels as heels make it look a bit desperate.

I would also wear the over knee socks lower than the model so they were just on my kneevas I think they look a bit stockingy that high.

So, it's a yes from me, with a few tweaks. The dress is very pretty by the way.

cornflower123 · 19/09/2012 09:26

I think you might get away with it at 34, if you've the legs for it.

Order it, see how it looks (then send it back if you think it's too much). Not sure that your DH should be saying you're 'too old' for it! I would be put out about that.

The socks'll come in handy when it turns colder anyway!

whiteandyelloworchid · 19/09/2012 09:26

omg i feel so so old now !

perhaps i wont grow old gracefully with my taste!

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts · 19/09/2012 09:28

Not with the socks! With tights it's a really nice dress.

Emandlu · 19/09/2012 09:28

Hmmm, I wear skirts with socks like this, but with big clompy boots. I guess my look is a bit on the alternative side. I'm 35 and get loads of compliments on it, so I don't think it is just for those in their 20s

cornflower123 · 19/09/2012 09:28

As TW said, with biker boots would look great!

whiteandyelloworchid · 19/09/2012 09:28

tell you what i'm going to get dh back for that one!

what ever he gets next carrot top jeans Hmm
or silly teeshirt with decks on or something, i shall be telling him hes too old for that...

OP posts:
BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts · 19/09/2012 09:29

Well 34 is not old! But quirks like those socks are only good when worn ironically and at 34 you can't do ironic.

As a younger woman I was fond of vintage things...now though, I look like an old crazy lady if I try to wear some odd nylon shirt from the 70s or a 50s skirt.

notMarlene · 19/09/2012 09:30

The dress is great but TBH the over knee socks really aren't. Regardless of age.

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts · 19/09/2012 09:30

OP if he is also 34 then he IS too old for t shirts with decks on!

whiteandyelloworchid · 19/09/2012 09:32

lol yeah i shall tell him that as well!

hes also rather keen on tops with skulls on etc, yet think things i like such as a top with a rabbit print on are silly!

hes rather rude really isnt he

OP posts:
BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts · 19/09/2012 09:36

Oh I love a nice rabbit print!

Get him a nice old man type jumper and tell him his days as a dude are over now.

PenelopeChipShop · 19/09/2012 09:39

Love the dress but i'd skip the socks too, purely as I remember them being in fashion when I was a teenager so I'm guessing i shouldn't wear them the second time! I think it depends more on the figure than the age though so if u reckon u can pull them off, do it.

MirandaWest · 19/09/2012 09:42

I'd wear the dress but not with the socks. Am 37

whiteandyelloworchid · 19/09/2012 09:43
