here

this is the only season temp wise to wear this type of thing, but i have a feeling if i wore that on the school run i would get Shock gasp and people thinking im a whore!

what do you think?

oh and dh said im too old for that at 34, bloody git

Emandlu · 19/09/2012 09:43

Why can't you do ironic at 34 woolytights ?

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts · 19/09/2012 09:44

Because irony in fashion only works on the youthful. 34 is youthful compared to 40....but it's not exactly a spring chicken.

whiteandyelloworchid · 19/09/2012 09:49

oh dear, i better go and top myself now thenGrin
only kidding!

OP posts:
LemonBreeland · 19/09/2012 09:53

I think at 34 you could wear the dress with tight and chunky knee sock and knee high boots. But not the over the knee socks.

whiteandyelloworchid · 19/09/2012 09:55

well in that case can anyone reccomend some nice elsaticated waist trousers, and some nice slippers, ideaally the zip up slippers as i do tend to fumble around alot these days Grin
perhaps some tartan ones would be nice

not sure what sort of tops i should be wearing? any iedas? am iright thinking some sort of shapless baggy old t shirt?or is theres some thing else that would suit my age better

Grin

It is quite a sexy look isn't it ?! Think us oldies could get away with it if there was not the gap between the tights and the dress.
Shame I usually hate teenage fashion (black tights with denim shorts) but I do like this look. Smile

ENormaSnob · 19/09/2012 09:58

Love the dress, hate the socks.

ggirl · 19/09/2012 10:04

god no ,those socks only for teens surely!?
people will snigger

doesn't mean you have to start shopping in M&S classic section htough

IShallPracticeMyCurtsey · 19/09/2012 10:04

Very cute, and would look brilliant on my 20-yr old sister. At 29, I personally wouldn't do the socks though - it's just too cutesy and not age-appropriate.
Get the dress! You can still look foxy with tights and ankle boots.

whiteandyelloworchid · 19/09/2012 10:16

well i dont think i shall wear it with the socks then, as i can imagine the looks and gossip on the school run if i turned up in that.

OP posts:
notMarlene · 19/09/2012 10:17

High / mid heeled brogues and woolly tights would be the way forward, I'd say.

IShallPracticeMyCurtsey · 19/09/2012 10:21

OP, the Horlicks look (that dress with woolly tights &brogues, like the previous poster said) is terribly cool though!
Wear with pinned-up braids and a dusty copy of Anna Karenina under your arm and just watch the school run mammies follow suit Grin

notMarlene · 19/09/2012 10:22

I've got some similar to these but with a chunkier (but not blocky) heel and they're most foxy with dresses like this. There are loads about ATM in all price classes.

notMarlene · 19/09/2012 10:23

(am 34 and it's not mutton-ish)

BeauNeidel · 19/09/2012 10:27

I love tea dresses (but can't load Asos at the moment for some reason) but I agree with most of the above - over the knee socks for the under 20s only. Although I personally think they are vile regardless of age.

Purplehonesty · 19/09/2012 10:29

Socks? I didn't see any socks....

notMarlene · 19/09/2012 10:30

the thigh high socks (aka wooly hold-ups) as worn by the model in the link...

Purplehonesty · 19/09/2012 10:31

Ah I just had another look and saw the socks. Nope! They are too young for us 30 something's I'm afraid.

notMarlene · 19/09/2012 10:36

IMHO the socks are vile and tasteless at any age. I clearly remember doing an (internal) cats bum mouth at them when I was 15 (as was the girl wearing them).

notMarlene · 19/09/2012 10:45

under the knee socks, opaques and a wee dress does work work though.

Mollydoggerson · 19/09/2012 10:49

Love the dress, the suspender socky things look a bit cheap, would be lovely with tights and a cardi.

notMarlene · 19/09/2012 10:52

Yes, if it's a tight, shortish v necked cardy fastened at the waist with a skinny belt over. Frumpy otherwise

MrsSnow · 19/09/2012 11:03

Dress - yes
Socks - no

MrsBovary · 19/09/2012 11:11

I don't think you would be able to carry off the socks at your age. You could get away with the dress perhaps.

BeauNeidel · 19/09/2012 15:56

Incidentally, anyone having trouble loading that page? Have tried again, it won't load and then crashes out MN!

Weird.
