bigTillyMint · 26/10/2012 18:28

Oh yes, Wilbur - have seen that in all the ads - very nice!

May have to dash to Primarni tomorrow as DD hasn't really got a warm coat and it's going to be as cold in Paris as here... her mate just came round with a lovely padded long jacket for £18Smile

CointreauVersial · 26/10/2012 22:39

The change in seasons certainly brings out the shortcomings of the DCs' wardrobes, doesn't it? On the eve of our trip to Ireland, DS finds that two of his three pairs of jeans won't pull up past his newly-expanded arse, and are about six inches shorter than they should be - trouble his, he spends most of his weekends in football kit, or slobbing about in pants and a dressing gown Hmm, so hasn't worn jeans in ages.

Back in the day, we used our trips to Ireland to stock up on cheap clothes, but not nowadays; he'll just have to make do. I'm packing some woolly pullies - it is going to be brass monkeys.

Good luck with the kitchen, Herbs; we did ours two years ago. Luckily the builder-in-chief was a chap we've known for years who has done a lot of work on this house and on our old one, so we didn't have the "trust" worries.

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/10/2012 23:01

It's forecast to be -2 in Warsaw tomorrow and I can't find my gloves. Still, I'm sure I can manage to buy a pair there...

DD2 has left her ski jacket at school. [hangry] So she is having to wear a smart wool coat instead. [hgrin] She is not happy...

motherinferior · 27/10/2012 09:47

Went to see Jumpy last night (after queueing for an hour in the morning to get a tenner day ticket - well worth it, though to be properly cheapskate next time must remember to take one of those M&S plastic glasses of wine with me as a glass of rose cost more than a cheapo bottle of the stuff Shock). Depressingly midlife crisis. Very good.

Have lovely friend's 40th today - so youthful she is!

bigTillyMint · 27/10/2012 10:00

Just googled it - looks good MI - maybe DH and I can escape to it one evening!

Very Envy at the nice hols to Ireland/Warsaw

motherinferior · 27/10/2012 10:09

BTW I have to get out of current job (ie leave and starve when contract finishes) for the sake of my own sanity. I am finding working opposite glossy young things who treat me as Invisible Old Lady really, really wearing.

motherinferior · 27/10/2012 14:54

And I am feeling the urge for some new woolly jumpers

Blackduck · 27/10/2012 15:59

Wilber sounds like that's the one...
MI sorry job is so rubbish.
I am on a train going to drop Ds at folks as car died on motorway this lunchtime. This was not part of my weekend plan ...

rubyShock! DD is off to France on Monday and trying to convince me to give her £50 spends as "all the others are"

Just watched The Help en famille - we all enjoyed it, though I thought it wasn't quite as good as the book.

So manic dash last night to drop Ds at parents, then totally forgot about clocks so got up at 6.00! Ahh......
Back home today - and maybe a bit of Bond action this afternoon. Other than that weekend has been wiped out!!

Hope everyone else is having a better one!

motherinferior · 28/10/2012 09:34

I went to a party and danced last night Shock Grin!

Any views on those jumpers?

herbaceous · 28/10/2012 09:37

Dancing MI? At our age? I went for a curry on Friday night, in my new Tesco boots, and they were v comfy, rather unusually for plastic footwear. Then lunch out yesterday. And now a morning Halloween party for DS. Last thing I want, but the alternative is packing up the kitchen pre-builder.

Re jumpers, they look very sensible. Possibly too sensible.

motherinferior · 28/10/2012 09:42

Good point Grin

DH and DS have gone off for a footy match, DD is packing for France. My cousin messaged me last night so DD and I are meeting him and family up for a Diwali thing in Trafalgar Square later, before her mate comes round for pre-France sleepover and I get up at 4 to drop them off.

I like the red snowflake jumper MI, though the neckline does look rather sensible...

Blackduck · 28/10/2012 13:17

I am off to meet Dp for a Sunday lunch curry and then going to see 007 in action Grin
Makes up for the rubbish weekend thus far...

herbaceous · 28/10/2012 14:09

Ugh. Just back from a Halloween kiddies party. The most stressful event I've ever attended. Eight children, 12 adults, small loud kitchen, loud music, shouting, badly behaved brats, tired, hungover and stressed. I spent the whole time wondering when I could leave. And now I've got to pack up the kitchen, for possible builder start on Wednesday.

CointreauVersial · 28/10/2012 16:47

I'm squashed on the sofa at SIL's house in Ireland while the football blares from the TV.

We had a great night out for PIL's 50th wedding anniversary; we were still in the pub when the clocks went back, and the partying went on until 5am (although I baled early). There were 11 children in the house last night, sleeping on every available flat surface and screaming round the place at an indecently early hour this morning.

SIL dragged us out to the local park at lunchtime where she'd hired a photographer to take some family snaps - it's the first time the whole of DH's family have been together for years. Let's hope the photographer is good at photoshopping eye bags.

bigTillyMint · 28/10/2012 17:00

BD was it a curry buffet? We LOVE the Sunday curry buffets - will be going next Sunday with the Frogs!

CV sounds like a wonderful party weekend - love the photographer idea, particularly if they do a good photoshopWink

Herbs, sympathies - so glad we are past those awful screaming children parties. Sort of!

Had a nice afternoon in Covent Garden with cuz and family, and nice girlie chats with DD on bus there and backSmile

Off clothes shopping with DS tomorrow morning, eeek!

motherinferior · 28/10/2012 18:52

Herbs, that sounds like actual hell. I recommend Hair of Dog. I'm a health journalist, trust me.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 28/10/2012 19:34

Yo Crepeys! I have been having an interesting time. Had a bit of a marital crisis for a week in amongst which I decided that maybe dh and I finally needed some time on our own sans children. Especially as he is enduring a milestone b-day this w/e. Both kiddiwinks had a handy inset day last Friday, so I packed them off to Granny's on Thursday night, dog went to kennels and dh and I have just spent a very pleasant and entirely decadent long w/e in a rather expensive hotel in Bristol. We did nothing cultural AT ALL. Just scoffing, shagging and shopping. Grin And I feel much better for it, if a bit porkier. Grin The last time dh and I had a decadent w/e was after our wedding and that didn't really count because I was pregnant and feeling sick as a dog.
As it's half-term, we now have work in (grrr) and this means that tomorrow I am having to pay dd to look after ds and she is going to take him to the local trad cinema to see something like Madagascar 3. They have only been home a couple of hours and are already arguing about what film they are going to tomorrow. Ds (7) is under the impression that she could get him into the new Bond film (12A) if she really made an effort to pass for 18. I feel I may end up paying her more money just to stop her strangling him by the end of tomorrow and I daren't even think about the probable state of play by Tuesday. Have also got to sort out Trick or Treat route for Wed and seem to have inadvertently invited several mums and a multitude of small boys around for Halloween thing. There is currently no plan. Aaargh.

TheReturnOfStropperella · 28/10/2012 19:41

ps: dh and I have luffly new clothes. I have a faux leather jacket with fur collar from Zara and it makes me go Grin Grin . I can also report that Next's skinny cords are v. nice. I have a pair in navy and they are sooo flattering and warm. Most excellent. Dammit, I had forgotten how almost pleasant shopping can be when you are not constantly losing a 7 year old because he is hiding in the racks of clothes or off climbing on something he shouldn't and creating a scene of some sort. Also v. nice not having to negotiate with a teen stropper about how many hours it is necessary to spend in New Look.

Blackduck · 29/10/2012 08:56

Oh Stropps glad things are looking up, though I am a tad Envy at your w/e away....And I am glad you have clothes that make you Grin Was missing you and worried!

BTM - no, not a buffet, but our rather posh Indian does a jolly cheap Sunday deal (£10.95 a head - choose a stater and a main, add rice or a nan, and they add another main dish and veg dish! - so four curries in total - bargain!).
Then went to see 'skyfall' - 'Where the bloody hell have you been' :)

This made up for the mad dash down to London Sat/Sun to drop ds off. Now we wait to hear just how kaupt the car is.....

wilbur · 29/10/2012 11:35

Darn, I was in Next at the weekend but failed to spot skinny cords. Was there mainly to buy ds2 pants as I realised when packing for him that most of his pants are age 3-4 with Thomas on them and holes round the elastic Blush. As he is now a super cool 7 yr old (clearly with a freakishly small bum that still fits 3 yr old pants) I thought I should upgrade his kecks. Glad you had good weekend away Stropps - sounds like it was long-overdue. Smile

BD - tell dh to listen carefully in the Arts Centre cafe and he might hear the ghost of a younger me discussing Brecht and making a single coffee last 5 hours.... Happy times. Sorry about your car though, that it a right PITA.
