However, she is developing that Y9 attitude pretty nicely - took a picture of them both on the doorstep this morning and though DS is taller, you can see she's older from the undone collar, big, short tie and blazer sleeves pushed up

Beachy I accidentally putthe wrong kind of fuel in one of our cars (we had one of each at the time) - about £10 worth I think. I didn't dare tell anyone but it was fine. Phew!

Love that your DH liked the pockets, Cremola - he would fit in well with my class and their idiosyncracies.

I did try a few weeks or months ago (was alto2 then) but RL interfered too much & I couldn't keep up.

I was the one who aspired to go gracefully white (after dyeing my hair for years) & you gave excellent advice. Now predominantly silver with some black roots, suits me better, much easier to look after & saves at least £30/month..

I'm (thinks carefully) 57, DD almost 14, just starting Y9. We have an old cat, young dog and resident mother aged 87. DH was made redundant 3 years ago: health crises scuppered his plan to retrain as a maths teacher. I've been on MN over 10 years under different names - mainly eemie.

When I'm anxious I clean things - suffice it to say my cleaner was so stuck for something to do today that she polished the Yale lock on the front door with Brasso.

I used to love Autumn best and I'm trying to recapture that enthusiasm.

Oooh, I'd been wondering how the hair got on! I am slightly disconcerted at finding some unexpected pubic greys today.

OTOH the worst that happened today was I forgot my packed lunch and am v cheered to see the GCSE results at DD1's new school which confirm me in my feeling it was the right place for her. She has started French. My hardwon years at the subject have been demonstrated in my transliteration of "in your face, girl friend!" which proves that Education Is Worth It.

You all sounded very content in the sunshine! First week of new school year has gone very well, much positivity in Chateau Cointreau at the moment.

Dragged Ds kicking and screaming down the local for a Friday night pint only to be greeted by 'hey Ds, what you got there?' cue disappearing child, who came back to take on liquids and demand we stay for tea...Dp had predicted this exact scenario! Then had fab chat with sisters, cello and piano teachers, cello teacher owns most amazing Victorian/gothic house and has invited us round!
Sounds like everyone had a good day...only bummer here is we won't get a phone line and thus an Internet connection until 18 October bloody BT

I was working yesterday from 0600 to 1500 and am knackered. More of same tomorrow. So will start Monday exhausted. AB wants me to write the job ad for my job on Monday. AIBU to tell him to do it himself, as one of the myriad reasons he gave for not wanting to extend my contract was that he wants to "radically review" what my job involves. Had an unpleasant little chat with him about promotion last week (we have to do an exam and interview to get promoted). He told me that I might like to do the exam "for the experience and so that they can flag up development needs." I asked him if he had done it. He had. Twice. And failed twice. He then pontificated a bit more on my chances in very patronising manner, whereupon I hissed at him that I had one thing in my favour that he didn't. What was that, he asked. A vagina, I said. (We are v v v short of v v v senior women.)

I was thinking of you this morning MrsS and wondering how you survived your horrible week. But now I see that it's not over yet as you have to work tomorrow. I hope this will put you in the right frame of mind for telling AB to write his own job ads. Is there a good chance that you will get promoted to a job that is better than AB's? Had my day in an office yesterday, involving doing hardly any work, drinking tea made by a minion, people-watching on the commute, and eating a pret salad on the banks of the Thames. Altogether very relaxing.

Not like Mrs S's job in any way at all. Crikey - tell AB to shove his job description sideways up his fundament. What a douchecanoe he is.

Off to paralympics tonight! Again! With DP! A friend is babysitting DS, and will have to put him to bed. I think this should be OK - the worst he'll have to deal with will be a poo in a potty. Which admittedly is pretty rank, even for a veteran such as myself.

Saggar, 49 next week, 3 kids; ds1 moved out in the Spring, ds2 doing his Masters and barely ever here (he's in Paris at the moment) and dd going to university this year but local as I appear to have made her too comfortable at home

Oh Herbs my trousers of Truth are still effing tight and I haven't had crisps for a month. Despair

My shorts of truth still give me camel toe.

Thinking about it, I'll be super-good for, say, three days a week, eating about 1,200 calories a day, then as soon as I lose a bit of weight, or it's the weekend, I'm not so strict. Bot holes. Looks like I'm actually going to have to try harder.

I'd assumed that doing low-carb meant I didn't have to count calories so much, but it would appear this is untrue.

I too am wondering about the inclusion of butter and things on the low carb. I am trying so hard but it's slow herbs really slow :(

I think I'm also mixin' and matchin' too much. For example, I'll have bacon and eggs for breakfast and a salad with lots of proteiny stuff, inc cheese, for lunch. Then I think 'ooh haven't I done well' and have sausage and mash for tea, with wine.
