Ankle Boots - it's no good, I can't contain it anymore...

I know loads of people here love them, but I think they are super-shiiiitt.

There. I have spoken the heresy aloud. And I feel much better for it.

I just want to know if I'm alone on this one. They make me think of 80s cowboy boots with the tops lopped off. Christ, I even hate the Acne ones. Just look at 'em (real and imitation):

Urgh. Not for me. Never. Ever. Unless I am in a nursing home and someone else is dressing me, by which time I probably won't care.

I can only bear them with jeans - when you can't see they are ankle books.
With skirts etc makes me shudder - I don't think it ever looks good.

noddyholder · 04/09/2012 13:54

I think wearing them covered defeats the object They look great with skinnies and dresses IF you have good legs

suze28 · 04/09/2012 14:05

I saw Avril from schoolgatestyle trying on a totally gorgeous pair from M&S, well I didn't actually see her....they were featured on her blog. I've been a bit hmm over ankle boots but was totally convinced after seeing them. Maybe, a little birthday treat for myself?

squoosh · 04/09/2012 14:13

I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove ankle boots.

SilkInsideAChestnutShell · 04/09/2012 14:15

It depends on the boot. Am not a fan of Acne or similar, but love Ash jalouse and Asos aggies

AbsofAwesomeness · 04/09/2012 14:16

So yes to ankle boots and dresses/skirts? This has been bugging me for years

Mumelie · 04/09/2012 14:24

I want to like but have tiny feet and big thighs and they kind of emphasis that Hmm
Need chunky ankle boots like the DMs I used to where back in the mists of grunge time

PorkyandBess · 04/09/2012 14:29

I love ankle boots this year, have decided that under the knee length are making me look mumsy.

And apologies it's from the sidebar of shame, but I think Fearne Cotton looks great in hers

SwedishEdith · 04/09/2012 14:33

They all seem to have heels (well, the ones linked to on here, anyway) What are non-heel wearers supposed to wear?

QuinnFabray · 04/09/2012 14:42

I only ever wear them with skirts and dresses. I have great legs though.

SilkInsideAChestnutShell · 04/09/2012 18:46

se I NEVER wear heels, but asos aggies are genuinely comfy. I do look a bit draggy in them though Sad as am just too tall for heels.

CointreauVersial · 05/09/2012 00:29

I agree with Porky - knee-length boots seem so frumpy all of a sudden.

I shall no doubt wear my long brown old faithfuls a few times this winter, but I'm definitely more likely to be tucking my skinnies into ankle boots from now on.

GreyhoundBess · 05/09/2012 00:55

I've looked at the link and honestly can't see the difference between them and the mum derided "mum boots".

TheAgedPs · 05/09/2012 05:59

I am old enough to remember wearing ankle boots 30 years back . They were only ever worn with trousers, usually tucked into them.

I think the new "fashion" for wearing them with skirts etc has come about due to economics- someone one day thought they couldn't afford 2 pairs of boots- long ones and short ones- so wore thier ankle boots with skirts- and lo and behold, a new fashion was born. :)

Personally I don't like ankle boots with anything apart from trousers, especially if they have baggy ankles- but I could just about accept a neat, laced Victorian type boot if the ankles fitted tightly.

DialsMavis · 05/09/2012 06:13

I don't get them at all, they all look like mum boots to me too Hmm

giraffesCantGetIntoOlympicPark · 05/09/2012 06:18

I think they would make my legs look fatter

LesleyPumpshaft · 05/09/2012 08:44

I'm convinced ankle boots dont suit me and very miffed that knee highs have become mumsy/frumpy, because I'm convinced they make my thighs look slimmer. Angry

Tbh I see other people wearing ankle boots and think they are unflattering and they can make people's legs look a bit fat and dumpy.

MrsDelaBilliere · 05/09/2012 08:47

I've got a few pairs in my wardrobe, bought to go with super skinny jeans, leggings, treggings, jodhpurs. I'd never put them with a skirt, it just looks wrong to me.

RikersBeard · 05/09/2012 08:56

If you have short legs, they always make your legs look shorter. The opposite of a nude shoe.

And as per a previous thread of mine, if you wear with skirts, what do you do about tights? They look ok with bare legs if it's warm and you have great legs. What about the winter?

MrsBucketxx · 05/09/2012 09:04

i dont like them either. not girly or classic enough. basically im not cool enough to wear them :(

OddGoldBoots · 05/09/2012 09:08

They are the only things that allow me to stay mobile and look fairly normal given my foot drop, deformities and spasticity so I'll keep wearing them with whatever I like and try not to get too paranoid that people are judging me for it.

LesleyPumpshaft · 05/09/2012 09:09

I'm probably not cool enough to wear them either.

I subscribe to the following philosophy though: Just because it's fashionable, it doesn't mean you should wear it.

The amount of women and girls I've seen in skinny jeans and ankle boots who really shouldn't be wearing them... All I'll say is that the chunky thighs and little feet evoke images of pig trotters.

I know that sounds bitchy and nasty, but I cant shake that image from my head.

saltnpepashere · 05/09/2012 09:11

Yes, everyone in S&B seems obssessed with avoiding 'mum boots', but all the ankle boots I ever see linked on here scream MUM BOOTS! to me (definitely including the ones in the link at the top).

BIWI · 05/09/2012 09:11

Oh I like some of those! I might have to give them a go this year, as I've got into wearing skirts/dresses over the last couple of years. I think I've got good enough legs. Certainly they are more toned at the moment since my gym-going and weight loss.
