For anyone who likes to talk about style, nice stuff that they've bought and so on.

Oh Hopefully, that sounds promising re: dressmaker I keep thinking I should do something similar. Will you pick a pattern and fabric?

I'm looking forward to wearing my J Brand Blue Bonnets with black clog boots and a navy knitted poncho so that there's just a flash of blue from the bottom of my thigh to just below my knee - it looks good in my mind's eye Grin.

Marsha, I have also been contemplating J Brand velvet skinnies (mainly because they are reduced on The Outnet and Yoxx Wink) but there is something Sunday School Teacher-y about velvet that I'm finding it hard to get past.

AmberNectarine · 09/10/2012 13:12

I am a wearer of the coloured skinny (have cobalt, red and fuschia 811s) all of which I am happy to wear throughout the winter. I particularly like the fuschia with plum/burgundy tops to wintrify them. That being said, my style isn't exactly conservative...

Wearing navy/ruby striped whistles long sleeved t today, tucked into high waisted navy VW skirt, with navy opaques and navy patent R&B courts. Gold fox head necklace from Mulberry, and navy metallic Bayswater to add a bit of Amber-quirk.

Am thinking of next purchase, what to get? I want the mcQ hummingbird pencil skirt, a grey IRO jacket and a pair of R&B brogue boots, but I don't know which to buy next...

DonaAna · 09/10/2012 13:13

Yes all - "fun" is the perfect word for colored skinnies - unless of course you are really young or a gamine / ingenue that is allowed to be perma-young - or an Italian man. On me, the look is a bit "hey look mummy is still very young and daring (NOT)."

Loving Bruce Oldfield Hopefully. I saw a very beautiful young Italian girl on the tram stop dressed in the perfect Power Dressing look with American football player shoulder pads...

I love velvet Sunday school teacher at heart proper velvet, not corduroy (I had to wear too much beige corduroy in 1980s and remain permanently scarred) Confused No, corduroy looks fine on others but on me - too natural? soft? submissive? Not sure what it is, just feel not right.

Great to have Ujj, Pickled etc back! (Let's try to make it till edition 3, shall we?) My life too busy too, trying to get my work mojo back, skipped the film premiere yesterday. Life is really too short for bad films.

DonaAna · 09/10/2012 13:16

Amber you can definitely carry off colored skinnies, but you are also a decade younger than I, and a Winter, no?

Italians skipped the colored trend, here you can see slightly muted reds and green on men but women didn't join the trend. Haven't seen floral denim either. White is always big in summer, although the great switch to winter clothing seems to have happened now.

MarshaBrady · 09/10/2012 13:17

I do still love red or burgundy but can't to do red with green coat - too Christmas.

Love burgundy with blush but need that mid weather that doesn't require a coat.

I think it's just yellow c/es am parking but it's because they are too big now which irritates me, baggy.

DonaAna · 09/10/2012 13:20

Ooh Marsha I remember now that I wore the green jeans when I accidentally dressed as Pizza Margherita / the Italian flag. That's it... Grin

MarshaBrady · 09/10/2012 13:22

yy on the outnet Pickled, probably gone now will have to look.

Mind you I really need to stop replenishing skinnies as the trends come in as the rest of my clothes fall apart. Tops especially.

Ujj really not sure, but am recycling the same knit wear too often. Although having said that I spend so much time outside maybe I should go for a new jacket / short coat. But if I did I'd get something very warm that can be warn without a coat. Maybe a big knitted thing with a tie belt. Or a oversized warm something.

First though is dress! Must not get distracted.

yes lovely to see ujj, Auld and everyone.

Sansucre if you are reading did you get a pea coat? I can't remember!

MarshaBrady · 09/10/2012 13:23

Dona yes! It's the one thing I can't do with home paint or on me. Green/red - Pizza or Christmas elf.

AmberNectarine · 09/10/2012 13:31

Yes, I am a winter so all the bold colours really work on me, and I am 27, so could feasibly pass for a children's tv presenter, which I think is the criteria for lurid trousers wink]

I don't mind green and red so much, but as noted above I am not shy of looking a twit.

Will nobody help me spend money?!

MarshaBrady · 09/10/2012 13:35

I'm sure you don't look a twit Amber! But my coat is very strong mid green, still wear with acne day glo citrus and orange Celine so am not adverse to The Brights.

Ok shopping yes hang on let me look.

Pop I went into the poshest looking fabric shop in town and asked them if they knew of a proper dressmaker, not one who just did alterations. Well worth it for a shift or something that you'll get lots of wear out of IMO. Great news on the Boss cobalt stuff.

Amber I agree with Marsha - prioritise the McQueen skirt - it is the one you are least like to find an alternative for if it sells out, I reckon.

The Baukjen overcoat I ordered is going back - too big at the waist and hips, not quite big enough at the shoulders. Nice feeling quality-wise though. Not special enough to get altered though.

MarshaBrady · 09/10/2012 19:42

Fingers crossed Pop, looks great.

What sort of coat do you want Hopefully?

Shop! Have thrown the dc at dh. Petrol blue is quite hard.

I really like this Dagmar one but it's over budget and pretty much sold out (double bah). But merino which could be good.

Bit over budget and a bit bright too.

In budget but navy.

Quite hard isn't it? Am going back in...

OP posts:
DonaAna · 09/10/2012 19:54

Love the cobalt sweater Marsha. But who on earth is going to wear the Dagmar leggings!

Hopefully · 09/10/2012 19:58

Dagmar leggings are awful, aren't they?

Coat requirements? Double breasted, warm colour (teal, petrol, dark olive, chestnut, dark brown), military style, I think knee length but am not wedded to that idea.

shopafrolic · 09/10/2012 20:07

Thanks Marsha the Dagmar is right up my street in terms of colour and style so definitely a possible. The trousers they've styled it with though????? eeeek! I can't wear cobalt unfortunately as I do love it!
You've already made more headway than me though! Thanks!
hopefully you're describing my dream coat so I'll be watching with interest!

shopafrolic · 09/10/2012 20:11

Dagmar has sold out Angry

DonaAna · 09/10/2012 20:22

This site has a lot of Scandi fashion and they still had The Dagmar sweater when I googled - but check out the budget alternatives too! Dagmar may be selling out quicky, they've got a lot of publicity lately.

shopafrolic · 09/10/2012 20:23

hopefully ?

Shop that coat is lovely. Have you seen this and this Hobbs coat? Not quite right for me I think, but lovely.

Hopefully · 09/10/2012 21:44

Ooh, loving the Jigsaw one. Will have a look instore this week.

shopafrolic · 10/10/2012 08:58

Thanks for the link Dona - by the time I got to it the Dagmar had gone! Never mind. The hunt continues..... Have good days all.

Hopefully · 10/10/2012 11:29

I am having a tops experiment. I adore Splendid tshirts, but they are £££ and although they last quite well, I think they do not offset the extra cost. So I have just been into H&M and bought 2 tshirts, a shirt and a fine cotton (well, mostly cotton) sweater, for the price of 1.5 Splendid tops.

The test is (a) do I like wearing them, or do I keep returning to the ageing Splendid ones in my wardrobe, (b) can I cope with the shorter length? (Nowhere does tops as long as Splendid) and (c) do they last?

I'm going to blog this little experiment I think...
