For anyone who likes to talk about style, nice stuff that they've bought and so on.

Hopefully Luisaviaroma can be good for Dramatics - case in point. Most of their sale stuff is ghastly but there might be hidden jewels among the tat.

MarshaBrady · 04/10/2012 19:26

Pop oh yes I LOVED Meryl too. Where she talks about her divorce and the belt one. I usually turn off just before the end when AH throws away her phone because I want her to stay. Also think her friends are ungrateful for presents Yes have seen it too many times Grin

Dona film? Italian or American?

shopafrolic · 04/10/2012 19:46

Good news Marsha! Pleased someone got the benefit of the huge discount! Here's to more late night bargains!
Years ago I went to the premiere of the remake of the Italian Job. I was so disappointed! Z list celebs and the stars of the film sat at the front and then walked out 5 minutes in - not quite as showbiz as I was hoping! I hope yours is a better experience Dona

AmberNectarine · 04/10/2012 19:47

I bring TK Maxx bargain news - have been in lookout for perfect navy pencil skirt, and today I found it! Vivienne Westwood red label, gathered at one hip, high waisted, wool-mix. £29.99.

I do love TK sometimes!

MarshaBrady · 05/10/2012 17:46

Well played Amber!

Took the pistols to lunch today. Was soo nice. Impromptu lunch with dh at favourite place. A light beef carpaccio and some champagne. Is quite a lovely thing to do. Will get on with something soon but whilst in limbo may aswell enjoy it!

Glamourous Marsha. I went to B&Q, Waitrose and the dry cleaners. Living the dream. On the upside the dry cleaner did produce a suit of DH's that I put in for cleaning in March 2011, which shows how organised I am.

MarshaBrady · 05/10/2012 18:33

Blimey they have a good memory to produce that.

It is too nice sometimes and hard to leave. A lunch is over in a blink.

Is your nice night out tonight?

OP posts:
AmberNectarine · 05/10/2012 19:07

Nah, 3 weeks away, tonight I am fighting the good fight and trying to get the children to bed so I can drink wine.

MarshaBrady · 05/10/2012 19:27

Yep after today's indulgence am home too.

Ooh sounds great Marsha.
To a party yesterday (v late to bed, slept in), a good day so far. Got dressed, got DC dressed, put lunch in the oven, took DC to park; all this before noon. Because DH got to go to gym while I babysat, am now thinking of doing something on my own. Choices, choices...

MarshaBrady · 06/10/2012 17:31

Thanks Dona, one of the more completely indulgent things I have done lately!

Went to the park today and looked at Vogue (with ds2 of course). And saw some lovely stuff. Have left it in the car, but really liked a Stella M blush-y coat, very sumptuous. And some shorts (possibly Mulberry).

Not too far off the colours I am wearing today, so dampened the desire a bit. Which is good as need to hone in on a dress.

Am in blush angora (Birger), grey skinnies and pale suede pistols. Worked well with the shot of orange Celine.

Finally getting a bit out of the clothing fug!

Dona sounds like a busy day!

I am resting up with my poor broken toe up on a cushion after wearing heels all day for a class. Ouch.

Hopefully · 07/10/2012 10:00

Marsha how would you wear the hypothetical shorts that you don't need to get? I really fancy some, even though they are not my style, and am thinking that shorts with opaques in the same colour might make the lines a bit sleeker. I'm not sure that a line breaking me in half across the thighs is going to help me...

MarshaBrady · 07/10/2012 10:24

Yes it has to be a similar colour I think too Hopefully.

The shorts were light, so legs (too cold, pale in winter) or lighter woollen tights.

I agree that dark opaques go better with darker shorts. Even without any leg considerations (although am sure you are fine!). But just because of the line thing.

MarshaBrady · 07/10/2012 10:24

When I get the magazine out of the car, I'll muse on what colour that lighter one might be.

MarshaBrady · 07/10/2012 10:30

Actually this Mulberry dress colour is very close, so the mushroom is good I think.

Hopefully · 07/10/2012 10:46

Ooh, and it would be another way to wear ankle boots Grin.

MarshaBrady · 07/10/2012 11:09

Exactly! I'm warming to it.

Aww thanks Pop I always love a compliment, even mind's eye ones Grin.

When I get an outfit together that is vaguely decent I'll put a photo up on my profile. (you can do it for Mn mates).

Love the idea of a proper work wear blog too.

OP posts:
DonaAna · 07/10/2012 18:27

Oh a great work wear blog would be great. Saw a great thing in the park today (spent the morning in a working class town near Rome): a middle-aged lady wore bootcuts and a plain viscose long-sleeved tee and uninteresting shoes in shades of blue. An average dull and downmarket outfit. Then she pulled a long plastic necklace from her bag - in a slightly darker shade of blue. Voila, done - her outfit looked chic and finished and the proportions were just right. So I think what is wrong with Corporette is that the clothes itself are quite dull and bland but she doesn't do what many Italians do instinctively - pair sophisticated neutrals and accessorize right.

I'm looking forward to wearing navy city shorts with opaques - quite soon, as temperatures are going down and low pressure is rolling in. All my fall shoes (desert boots, wedges, short Ilses) are back north, am going there at the end of this month, so will need to rely on summer clothes until then.

MarshaBrady · 07/10/2012 19:30

I can't see many clothes on that blog. Just lots of sales. I like the way you write about what you see Dona, it's a nice view into another city's fashion.

Had a lovely day with some lovely friends that I don't see as much anymore (as ds1 has moved schools). Was really lovely, Nice to see their style and be around their general happiness etc

Love the sound of navy city shorts.

Pop you always sound very chic, you'll be fine at work. Did you find something else other than the Joseph?

Bonsoir · 07/10/2012 20:28

What is acceptable work wear varies so wildly by industry/country/city/company that it's impossible to draw general truths, IMO.

Had an exciting Sunday afternoon as Le Bon Marché was, unusually, open and we went for a wander after our usual late Sunday lunch at the Café de Flore. I bought two pairs of J Brand skinny cords - black and midnight blue - as winter basics and a really nice pair of very high wedge ankle boots - brown suede with sheepskin linings and laces - from Hogan Rebel. Not too expensive (310 euros) and just the right mix of casual/glamorous that I was looking for.

I wore shorts/tights/boots in AW10/11 and AW11/12. Maybe at 46 it's time to retire?!

Hopefully · 08/10/2012 06:31

Bonsoir nah, retire from them at 50 maybe Grin

I think workwear does vary enormously. When I used to visit a lot of financial institutions in my other life before DC, it even varied from place to place there. Some were very stuffy suited and booted even for the women, some seemed to take great delight in being, ahem, forward thinking and allowing the men to go tie-free in the office etc or the women to wear something other than skirt suits.

Oh, and speaking of blogging, I have started to blog. Will delete if not appropriate to link (not sure if it falls under the evils of advertising) but here it is. I am awaiting the return of my camera from the repair shop and I will start doing outfit posts as well (not that it will help those of you in the corporate world. I don't really do corporate).
