For anyone who likes to talk about style, nice stuff that they've bought and so on.

Any of you well travelled lot got recommendations of what to do/see/eat/wear to Budapest?

Am off there on Thursday for a long ladies weekend with 4 friends from school. We are all celebrating 40th birthdays this year, so this seemed like a great way to celebrate. Weather looks a-ma-zing. Anyone who knows any cool eateries or bars particularly welcome!

DonaAna · 24/09/2012 09:09

It's a long time since my last trip to Budapest but we loved some restaurants along Raday Ut (some really great ones there, worth just exploring). Wear city chic and remember to pack something very light-weight / summery - it can get sweltering hot there. The city is very walkable and part of it is hilly so wear something that will not kill your feet.

I love In Your Pocket guides for Eastern European cities, but unfortunately they don't do Budapest. Time out guides are worth buying just for the food recommendations - also check out the abridged online versions.

Thanks Dona!

Bonsoir · 24/09/2012 09:24

DonaAna - I am definitely planning on queuing for Margiela@H&M and have some friends who are going to come along with me! Have there been any online previews of the collection yet?

FritziGreenEyes · 24/09/2012 09:35

bonsoir I think they are keeping the Margiela collection under wraps until the launch of the A.d.Russo accessories collection on 4th October: here.

AmberNectarine · 24/09/2012 09:41

I am definitely logging on for ADR, love some of those animal accessories - right up my street!!

Bonsoir · 24/09/2012 09:52

I'm sure you are right, Fritzi. The Anna del Russo collection is so not me that I've zapped it and not paid attention!

DonaAna · 24/09/2012 10:07

The AdR collection looks like the love child of old-school Versace and Juicy Couture (I love the OTT luggage - would not be difficult to spot at the airport conveyer belt among all that boring black nylon) and I love the feathered headdress. Sadly, not very me (I don't wear a veiled beanie), but Amber you will rock it!

Hopefully · 24/09/2012 12:38

I quite like a couple of the bracelets, but the rest is a bit OTT for me.

I need a winter coat (like, I actually don't have one. Not even a tatty one. This is a matter of staying warm as much as looking stylish). I am contemplating this one but balking at that much for something that is only 80% wool. Can't find a sensible sub-£400 alternative though.

In other exciting news, I have the number of a dressmaker who I am hoping can make a few new items of clothing that I need but just cannot find ANYWHERE at the moment.

AmberNectarine · 24/09/2012 12:52

Have had shopping success! DHL man arrived with my IRO jacket and top, and my MK heels. All excellent, all bargains. Happy days. Also, I found a work coat at the weekend, simple black single breasted wool/cashmere mix masculine style by Calvin Klein. Exactly what I was looking for, £95 from TK Maxx. Even happier days. Coat here

MarshaBrady · 24/09/2012 17:58

The ADR collection is rather fabulous isn't it? Not really me, but great anyway.

Excellent work Amber!

I am in Stella M big jumper, floral skinnies and Lanvin wedges (stopped raining). Still need to update things.

Not sure if Matches have already something on sale - the few items I have my eye on are still full price. Need very simple things this AW - boots, coat, two dresses, perhaps on pair of wide-legged trousers. I already have lots of basics -cashmere and merino and all possible shapes of jeans and ankle boots from past seasons. In fact am looking for a few breath-taking pieces to make what I already have seem less boring. How would I do that? (AW is always much more difficult than SS for me.)

Oh and Vogue says that twinsets are back Wink - well I love them for their warmth anyway

40bum has great postings on how to get the trendy things right on a budget this year - really recommend reading her.

DH off to a trip tomorrow and on another on Sunday. What a week, am dog tired.

MarshaBrady · 24/09/2012 19:58

Dona you'd rock something really out there. I'll have a think (am also tired, due to persistent bed-hopping toddler) but will keep you in mind when looking.

Good luck for the rest of the week, hope survival mode lasts and you get some new gorgeous AW thing to help you along.

Thanks Marsha! I love this time of the year - spent some time on Vogue.it & Pin looking at Milan SS2013 collections - all the outrageous stuff totally cheers me up. Dolce & Gabbana have a doll-house-pretty collection - would wear just about any single piece of it... Prada really boring. Well, none of this has nothing to do with real life of course...

MarshaBrady · 24/09/2012 21:03

I was kind of hmmm at Prada in shoe section of Liberty. Still advertising their brand on shoes and boots. Didn't look great.

Rather like all that black based floral that's around. Very dramatic.

I think this was a dress I swooned over on Matches. It was very expensive then it whizzed past on theoutnet and I missed it. Seeing it again made me wish I had been faster. Can't remember who it was by, but do remember that it was cashmere, will have a think. Yes I too find looking at pretty stuff very soothing when tired and overworked.

Marsha I love that dress and especially live the belt - would love one like that to slightly toughen up a few boring sweater dresses/skirt and jumper combos.

Hopefully · 24/09/2012 21:07

love the belt.

DonaAna · 24/09/2012 21:32

Inspired by the Jesus wept thread Grin, I may take a trip to the cantina to retrieve a floral on black jacket. Realized it might look fresh with cigarrette pants and my odd angle heels. I'm bored of jeans. Do you remember when they suddenly disappeared the last time around - the reign of the cargo pants...

Marsha love the simplicity of the dress. Realized that my black patent Marni belt revives quite a few boring dresses. More belts?

MarshaBrady · 24/09/2012 21:42

I remember cargo pants and heels. And those funny trousers with loads of ribbons hanging off them. I bypassed that look. Oh and pants with skirt stitched on Grin

I know I'm swooning over a black cashmere dress and a belt. Perhaps I should just get a belt! Will see if can hunt one done Hopefully.

And Dona! That reads badly, am tired!

Fleecy · 24/09/2012 22:33

Ooh I worked with a girl who wore the trouser/skirt combo thing. ALL THE TIME. Back in the 90s obvs.

Amber, I so love the Ash wedge high tops.

I have saved a black with striking pattern dress into my basket on Matches. Does anyone have a code?

DonaAna · 25/09/2012 07:45

Morning all, what are you wearing today? Am early to work (a day full of deadlines), wearing my rococo print pleated skirt, a white MJ peplum top, a big almost white rose quartz cocktail ring, extra masculine perfume (Antaeus by Chanel) and my sky-blue mock-ostrich ballerinas. After seeing the print extravaganza on runways, my skirt feels fresh again (it's from circa 2007 Hmm). Which makes me think that having a few exciting new things (peplum top, chambray shirt, leather pencil skirt) may revive a lot of tired old clothes (floral on black jacket with leather pencil skirt? Wink). Now need to think what those key pieces would be for this winter. Am tempted by black-on-black brocade pants but will have to think about it some more.

Fleecy trouser/skirts must have been one of the most annoying trends in the past decades (and I fear it gave birth to tunics&leggings)... I have to admit that I loved cargo pants - wore mine until they literally fell apart. I traveled a lot during that time and they were so practical and easy.

Marsha I have a few black cashmere dresses: on me, they are too delicate for everyday wear and only suitable for brief evening outings etc - unless the cashmere is very good, it will bobble terribly with daily friction (bags rubbing against the dress are particularly bad). I'm less enthusiastic about cashmere now and tend to buy merino instead - have far too many clothes that require special attention and care.

The only code I have for Matches atm is the free worldwide shipping one...
Amber love your IRO.

Fleecy · 25/09/2012 08:52

Gah! I shouldn't have been greedy enough to wait for a code. The dress has sold out. This happened with a Goat one I had my eye on earlier in the week. I dither too much.

Fleecy · 25/09/2012 09:01

At home with poorly baby. Uggs as slippers, jeans, breton. But the breton is gold stripes on cream so a teeny hint of glamour among all the illness Smile
