For anyone who likes to talk about style, nice stuff that they've bought and so on.

auldalliance My response to that thread would be a Gallic shrug. Wink

MarshaBrady · 20/09/2012 10:09

Ah nothing like an empty Liberty, early in the season Smile.

Shoes first.

Fritzi I'll say something good about German fashion. Not all of it is cutting edge, but if you want solid classic/work basics that last, the price-quality ratio is often just right. And if you are tall and statuesque like my mother, German fashion will fit you unlike bird-boned French and Italian dresses: if I'm L and XL in Zara, there have to be alternatives!!!

But I also understand that if you are surrounded by it, you might want to stand out. I don't wear Nordic designers while there - wearing Acne or Philippa K does not make you stand out because everyone else wears them. In fact, I have an uncomfortable relationship with Scandinavian fashion. The big bold retro patterns do nothing for me - the sparse angular cuts make my tall, lean and boxy body look even more scarecrow-like. Plus I think many pieces are too asexual and uniform-like and they are too often black or gray. I need a bit of femininity and more flowing lines. Bonsoir says she does not do formulaic Parisian. I would never do full Italian - I like their clothes but almost always wear something that reveals my roots - usually footwear, Minna Parikka shoes with one of my LBDs or Hasbeens with a Maxmara dress (isn't it great when wearing H&M does the trick Grin).

Right, off to work. A lovely sunny morning in my hotel suite, only slightly marred by the prospect of a long working day ahead Grin. Talked to DC last night via Skype, having a video connection makes them think I'm in the next room - gotta love technology (and it's free!!!).

Sorry typos galore, need more coffee...

MarshaBrady · 20/09/2012 11:30

Have Lanvin black suede wedges and Acne citrus scarf.

Saw divine Marant coat and will go back for American Vintage sweater when in xs.

Wardrobe reinvigorated for autumn at least.

Fritzi love the Germans and won't hear a bad word Grin.

marsha That sounds like a successful shopping trip. What's next on your list? Smile

Bonsoir · 20/09/2012 12:53

Sounds lovely, Marsha. Any links?

Just saw Supermodel Mummy dropping off her DC3 at school after lunch. She certainly wants to be noticed: she was wearing vertiginous heels and a very short skirt. I can confirm that her legs are very slim and very tone Envy Envy - no need for airbrushing.

Bonsoir · 20/09/2012 12:53

toned

MarshaBrady · 20/09/2012 12:53

Fritzi thanks!

Would love

Proenza black skinnies
Marant coat and AV sweater
A skirt of some description

An amazing dress for some excellent Christmas parties coming up. Different crowds so should be able to wear it more than once!

I was out for dinner with a friend a few nights ago and she was wearing this DvF top and looked great in it. Obviously I cannot buy the same but it might interest some of you.

MarshaBrady · 20/09/2012 13:18

Lanvin suede wedge. Unbelievably light and comfy and add some more height which I like. Tried on loads. The Marant ankle boot is very flimsy really. The Lanvin has a rubber sole which also is good news for me as I wear things out too quickly.

Acne angora scarf, very bright citrus. Should enliven my old jumpers that also need replacing.

Love that top Bonsoir.

Bonsoir · 20/09/2012 14:35

Both lovely, Marsha. Can you wear wedge heels like that for every day (school run etc)? I always go for flat ankle boots but maybe I should branch out...

MarshaBrady · 20/09/2012 14:43

Thanks Bonsoir! I will try them out one more time at home. Whatever I buy now does have to be for everyday including school run.

They felt great in Liberty, very light and easy to wear and more comfortable than all the others (tried pistols, Marant, Chloe and others). And I too usually go for flats and spent the whole summer in Lanvin ballet flats. And these feel just as good.

But will try them out one more time tonight and make absolutely sure. Will report back.

Bonsoir · 20/09/2012 14:55

I'm still wearing summer sandals Blush but my feet are getting chilly! I threw away my last pair of ballet flats at the end of the summer and probably need a new pair before I go onto boots/socks.

I look forward to knowing whether your gorgeous new boots are school-runnable!

Portia4 · 20/09/2012 14:55

Love your purchases Marsha, I admire your restraint, I of course have rushed in and done almost all my A/W buying already!

ujjayi · 20/09/2012 16:37

Marsha have serious boot envy now and would definitely wear those for the school run. Wonder if I could coerce DH into an early Christmas/Birthday gift Hmm

Bonsoir I don't know whether to be pleased that photographers are clearly not lying to us or just plain Envy that Super Mum doesn't need any airbrushing!

My Vivienne Westwood skirt arrived today and I love it! It is mid-calf and typical Viv draping at both hips and a snug fit over the bum with a mini bustle/drape beneath to draw attention to and gently "cup" the area Wink. All the drama is toned down by the fact it is burgundy and grey striped fabric so perfect for day wear (I already own some VW but it is definitely evening wear).

Have spent all day designing and collaging so looking forward to some downtime and snuggles with the DCs.

Have a good evening!

Great finds Marsha, perfect autumn changeover pieces.

I am having wardrobe meltdown having tossed all my awful tatty clothes but being unable to find anything to replace them. Eek!

AmberNectarine · 20/09/2012 17:21

Right have done a bit of outnet shopping today; bought this IRO jacket which I think could either be awful or brilliant and this silk T because the colour is gorgeous and it could be a great staple and it will look great with the MK heels I ordered yesterday

Great shopping Marsha I particularly love the scarf!

MarshaBrady · 20/09/2012 19:14

It will look gorgeous with your Kors pumps Amber. Love the outfit.

Bonsoir I know my Lanvins are destined for the bin. They are completely worn out. I'd love another pair before going to boots. But might be pushing it a bit!

Ujj great work on the VW skirt. Suits your style perfectly.

Thanks for feedback. I really wanted to get a few things that helped what I already have rather than gets loads today. So hopefully will get me out of my wardrobe funk.

Hopefully I remember you lamented not getting the Marant dickers. If you it makes you feel better they really are very thin, and just didn't feel solid enough.

Portia I should have done it earlier when Liberty had 15% off. oh well!
