And I'm much more of a winter person than a summer person. Layers are my thing.

On my list to survive freezing, dark mornings waiting for the train, like today is;

Nice (niace) warm hat and gloves
Flat boots smart enough for work but comfortable enough for walking in (keeping an eye on mum boots threads)
Lovely thick tights.
Bum covering warm waterproof coat.

Any recommendations?

Me too, like summer for a week then really wish it would then sod off.
Some nice coats in debenhams and m & s, some lovely boots in office.
I love leather gloves for winter......
It's definetly on the change the weather Grin

newpup · 29/08/2012 08:14

I love the Autumn! I get really excited when I let the dog out first thing in the morning and feel that crisp chill in the air. Smile.

My essentials would be ; Good leather boots, a really lovely cardigan that goes with everything, my winter coat and a waterproof warm dog walking coat. My brown leather gloves, my lovely piccolinos and my wellies!

Eliza22 · 29/08/2012 09:12

Me too, me too!!

The other evening, I left the door open for Miss Tallulah (cat) to come in and it was there.... That lovely "chill" of autumn. I love my coloured tights and woollens and a cashmere coat my mum gave me (past it's best now, but I won't let it go) and crisp (dry) mornings.

I'm not a massive fan of heat. 49 degrees in Seville last week, had me dreaming of coming home. But THIS, this shitey pissing down (constant) rain. WTF is this? I have lamps on this morning because it's dark, like a wintry afternoon. Please stop rain! Just.... Enough now!

coansha · 29/08/2012 09:27

Agree , get rid of the rain! Peter Kay is right , that fine rain that soaks you right thru!
I do love the seasonal differences here as lived in oz for 6 years and really just had a summer and spring, as winter and autumn were truthfully absent in comparison to ours, in the area we lived in.
I love my duvet coat , my dh and dcs take the piss out of it but I always have the last laugh as am toasty warm in it!

TheHeirOfSlytherin · 29/08/2012 12:54

Haha coansha I text that exact Peter kay quote to dh this morning (while I was in the midst of the rain).

Am normally a heels girl, but have been lusting after these ankle boots today. Some lovely flat boots on the Zara site, too.

TapselteerieO · 29/08/2012 14:30

Not exactly stylish, but bum covering, warm (have worn in in temperatures down to -15 on cold afternoons in the worst Scottish weather) and completely waterproof, merrell haven bargain, mine was £120 it is at least three yrs old, so I think I might look for a new and smarter coat and keep it for country walks. Any coat I buy has to be waterproof.

coansha · 29/08/2012 15:16

Ok I went out today and got new wellies( town and country chocolate ones) and a wax coat( half price , for dog walks) from garden centre.
I do like those bertie boots, I love boots full stop.

NotYouNaanBread · 29/08/2012 15:52

Definitely.

I have just celebrated by buying the Mumsnet scarf in brown and grey. And by coveting a cashmere jumper dress in Whistles, which isn't quite as satisfying, but still.

And by having the heater on by my desk to dry out my Converse after getting caught in the rain. :/

Mumelie · 29/08/2012 18:35

Oh yes, I need a new waterproof coat too (lurk).
New Look have some lovely lacey knit tights in berry shades, and only £5.99 a pair - I've stocked up with navy, cream, grey and burgundy.

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/08/2012 21:02

I thought this was a Game of Thrones dress up thread Smile

Its very very autumnal today and I don't think September is going to be great.

I have a new coat - the studded arm one from Zara and plenty of jeans. Would like some more cashmere and a silk shirt . . .

HoopDePoop · 29/08/2012 21:04

Envy MrsCB I want that coat!

MrsCampbellBlack · 29/08/2012 21:08

Its ever so nice Hoop Smile

BrianButterfield · 29/08/2012 21:10

I bought three jumpers from Primark today - I usually hate their plasticy knitwear but their chunky and open-weave knits are very nice.

HoopDePoop · 29/08/2012 21:11

I am sorted for bottom halves:

Uniqlo skinny cords in grey
Vehr expensive Tesco aubergine leopard skinnies
New Look ankle grazing jeans in a perfect mid blue denim

And I bought two of the most perfect ballerinas from Gap in black and tan (not on their website, but gorgeous good leather, stretchy sides with rubber sole and zip at the back, just perfect)

I need ankle boots (flat for lots of with-buggy walking) and black and grey jumpers, possibly from Uniqlo.

I would like a wine coloured bag, possibly Gerard Darel 24 Hr.

I must not buy any more scarves. Or coats. I already have a lovely winter coat entering its third year to justify the cost.

I think I suit summer more, and look better, but I much prefer snuggly winter clothes. I dug out my massive Kurt Geiger black woolly snood today but realised it was overkill for a spot of rain.

justasecond · 29/08/2012 22:51

Mrs Cb - inspired by you I tried on that coat in Zara, I loved it. Not the length and style I would usually go for but I really liked it. Unfortunately already have too many wool coats, what I really need is a waterproof warm one.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2012 23:25

I saw those Gap flats in khaki and was quite tempted as they are v nice - but the khaki ones were suede and I can't be doing with suede.

TellMeLater · 30/08/2012 00:50

I bought a north face arctic parka last year - waterproof and warm! Practical and it's beauty lies in that. Being wet and cold is miserable.

MrsCampbellBlack · 30/08/2012 07:49

I have the Barbour arctic parka from last year for when its properly cold - was £££ but still looks like new and oh so cosy.

Am also a fan of sheepskin liners for boots as they're cheap but make a difference to cold feet.

QueenCadbury · 30/08/2012 08:04

I'm also excited about winter clothes. Is it just me or is it so much easier to look stylish in winter rather than summer? If I could just find the perfect boots and handbag I'd be sorted.

newpup · 30/08/2012 08:32

Inspired by the chill and rain yesterday, I went shopping and picked up a few bits for this winter. I got the new short cord skirt in Gap and a lovely navy shirt dress for a few smart/casual events I have in the Autumn.

I found a couple of lovely tops in White Stuff but will wait until they send me the 15% off offer my friend had the other day. {smile]

I need a few casual tops and some tights as I am 4 dress sizes smaller this year! Grin Would like an everyday casual dress too. I had a lovely one last year from Monsoon but need a smaller one for this year.

DH treated me to a chocolate colour North Face coat very similar to that Merrell one Tapselteerieo. It is beautiful!

WantAnOrange · 30/08/2012 08:33

I can't wait! I love Autumn and Winter. I suit darker colours much better, especially like black, grey, purple and dark green.

My baby is due 10th october and I'm looking forward to not having to wear Mothercare, tent-like clothing! Hoping I can get back into my jeans quickly!

I will be a SAHM 5 days a week, and at uni 2 days a week so don't need any work wear.

I am after a big handbag for Uni, something that will go with my green FLY boots.

Am also after some long sleeve tops for layering. I like slash necks but I have a very long top half (pear shaped with stumpy legs) and always struggle to find tops that are long enough.

Definately easier to look good in winter! Can't stand the heat and burn very easy so end up wearing white linen trousers and white tops that scream super chav on me!

SilkInsideAChestnutShell · 30/08/2012 08:36

I need a waterproof coat.
Some Celtic sheepskin boots (or will they get ruined in the rain?)
To get my flat boots resoled.
Some more marvellous m&s maternity jeggings.
Knitwear.

Next year's list will be more stylish Grin. This winter it's all about the sahm to two under two survival wear.

QueenCadbury · 30/08/2012 09:29

I posted a white stuff code on another thread WSOCADO

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 30/08/2012 09:32

I am off to the cobblers today to get boots soled and heeled.
