Who exactly buys petite clothes?

I'm 5 ft and I have never purchased petite clothing . Yesterday I tried on short leg jeans ( not petite ) and went back for the medium leg as they felt too ankle flappy . I pretty much always wear flats too. I bought a petite coat once and when I put my arms up the sleeves went right up
My arm .. Sent it back for the normal .. Weird ..

I do. 5ft 2, size 8. Used to buy Next petite stuff but for some reason it seems to have got even more petite so stuff is really short but to be honest there's not much in the whole of the shop that interests me anymore. Got some DP stuff, M+S and Debenhams. Same as others with jeans. Take a 30inch leg whereas petite jeans are more like 28inch leg.

I buy petite trousers and have in the past bought petite coats. What do you do with the hem of jeans then if you're only 5ft or do you just put up with being stepped on all the time.

Oh, just caught up with your latest post op. I do need petite jeans but some are still too long at 29". Infuriatingly, 28" seems a bit short!

To answer the initial question:
Petite is a fit for ladies 5'3" or less in height. Body measurements should be smaller in the vertical aspect only, meaning - for example - the shoulder to wrist measurement is shorter, the back neck to waist measurement is shorter. Petite fit is all about the vertical; a size 10 should otherwise measure the same as any other size 10.
