.... and do you weigh 11.6 stone (74kg). If so, can I ask what dress size you are?

Gap long and lean or monsoon kick flares for jeans - but I have normal length legs and a long torso. Its tops I struggle with, and for those I just have to be really specific when choosing and try everything on.

QuiteOldGal · 20/08/2012 17:29

I'm lucky that at 5' 10" I'm only 33 leg. All my length is in my body and arms so I have to avoid anything waisted, belted or cropped length, very few jackets suit me and I always read the reviews to see if people are moaning about the overlong sleeves on tops and knitwear. I buy a lot of three quarter length sleeve tops.

I also bought the famed Merrell Wakefield coat in large (in the sale) and it fits perfectly.

Can I say again for those who are saying you are bigger sizes at lower weights, you cannot under-estimate bone density. That is why BMI is so variable. You lot obviously have lighter bones. I was 10 stone at 13 and 12 stone by the end of high school, at which point I was a county gymnast and hockey player and did dancing for 4 hours a week - I didn't have an ounce of fat on me. I have heavy bones.

Salbertina · 20/08/2012 18:02

Rather muscles mainly, I'd have thought? You must have been super toned with no fat so you would weigh more while looking v slim!

daisydoodoo · 20/08/2012 18:22

5'9 and 10st 5 and I'm a 12 in less fashion shops but a 14 in fashion shops such as top shop.
Want to lose another stone/stone half and get to a 10/12. Will be the first time in 16 years Blush

Krumbum · 20/08/2012 18:30

I am that height and was once that weight. I was a ten on top and twelve on the bottom.

doobiedoobiedoobie · 20/08/2012 19:54

I'm 5ft 10 and 11.6 ATM, size differs ridiculously shop by shop. Most of my things are a 10 on top and 12 on bottom bt I'm sure that's vanity sizing. I feel a 12 on top and 14 on bottom if that makes sense.

brighthair · 20/08/2012 20:27

5'10 but massively heavier at 103kg
Size 16 top and bottom

Everybody is different, a close friend and I have extremely different figures but weigh exactly the same (she's only a couple of inches smaller than me). You just need to try stuff on before you buy to find out which size to purchase - shops seem to have different opinions on what a size in. Some places, I can fit into a 10 or even an 8... other shops I'm a 12 :-)

Caerlaverock · 21/08/2012 12:25

You all must have really heavy legs and arms!

Claire2009 · 21/08/2012 12:26

Yes, 5"9 but 13 stone & a size 14.

brighthair · 21/08/2012 12:47

fridgepants I am pretty much your height/weight and size! Having measured I am just over 5'10 and about 15s9lbs

LolaAnn · 21/08/2012 20:14

Yes but am preg. Was 70kg not pregnant and 12 on top, 12 on bottom. 12 on top loose, 12 on bottom tight. I'm normally around 65 and am a 10 on top and loose 12 on bottom at that weight. at 60kgs 10 on top and bottom. Very much pear shaped here! And no boobs excl preg/bf

LolaAnn · 21/08/2012 20:19

And what Salbertina says. it's muscle not bone density most likely that is confusing everyone. I was at one point a powerlifter and weighed 65kgs. I was more of an 8/10 at that weight rather than at my 65kgs of fat a 10/12.

GetOrfMoiUsain · 21/08/2012 20:21

I read somewhere once about bone size - you can tell if you are big or small boned by putting your thumb and index finger round your wrist - if it just touches you're medium build, if it overlaps small build and if it doesn't meet you are large build.

That could all be a aload of old bollocks but it makes sense with me, I have very small wrists and ankles despite being a great big tall thing.

Caerlaverock · 21/08/2012 20:27

Cheers getorf, I now feel like a wee elfin Audrey Hepburn creature. utterly deluded

GetOrfMoiUsain · 21/08/2012 20:29

Yes, that's what I think, then I catch sight of the rest of me and the illusion is lost. Grin

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 21/08/2012 20:57

ooh, just tried that and seems I am big-boned...just digesting the implications of that - think a glass of wine might help...

ItMakesThePeasTasteFunny · 21/08/2012 21:05

Yes - I've read the wrist factor too. It makes me a medium. I honestly believe my enormous boobs - 34GG must weigh quite a lot!!!!

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiUsain · 21/08/2012 21:07

I think big boobs must make a difference, surely.

SpringGoddess · 21/08/2012 23:25

Right going by he index thumb measure, I'm large build....but I have a small rib cage, skinny arms and I need to be under 10 stone before I hit size 10 - does that follow the theory?

Longdistance · 21/08/2012 23:32

I'm 5'9, and pre children weighed about 73kg, and was a 14/16.

When I was 17 and 63kg was a size 12.

I'm now 36, and am a size 18 but daren't look at the scales

NickyNackyNooNoo · 21/08/2012 23:32

I'm 5'9, 74 kg & a size 12, not massive boobage but enough, I do exercise a lot though Wink

NurseBernard · 22/08/2012 00:57

I don't get these threads, either.

I'm 5'9" (who knew there were so many of us?!) and weight 68.5kg. I'm a comfortable size 12.

I do have some size 10 and 8 stuff in my wardrobe, but no way am I actually these sizes - these are purely vanity-sized clothes. I'd be deluded if I thought fitting into these clothes meant I could describe myself as these sizes.
