.... and do you weigh 11.6 stone (74kg). If so, can I ask what dress size you are?

I am also always hugely baffled by these threads. I am 5'10" and 10 stone 10, which makes me a slightly big 12 on top (biggish boobs) and a 14 on the bottom.

I have been 11 stone 10 and looked huge (for me), a big size 16.

Ideally I like to be bang on 10 stone or slightly under, but I find it hard to maintain now i am older.

Bytheseashore · 20/08/2012 10:15

I'm 5'9 and a half, weigh about 10st10. I'm currently a size 10/12 with big norks, smallish back and waist. My hips are small but my bum is not Confused When I was 11st6 I was a definate size 14. When I'm round 10st I'm a size 8/10.

HappyGirlNow · 20/08/2012 11:28

I'm 5 9 1/2 nd I weigh 11 st. I'm a12-14 on bottom depending where I'm shopping and a 8-10 on top..

HappyGirlNow · 20/08/2012 11:29
  • more a 12 on bottom but occasionally 14 in shops that size smaller..
almapudden · 20/08/2012 11:41

I'm 5'11" and when I weighed 11 stone I was a 12. Now, at 10'4", I'm a 10, sometimes a 12 in trousers (wide hips). At 11'6" I would be pushing a size 14.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 20/08/2012 11:51

Another one always baffled by these threads. And also in magazines where you see someone who has slimmed down severa stone, say, now wwith 12 stone and are a size 8/10 etc...

Hopefullyrecovering · 20/08/2012 11:53

5' 11" and weigh 9.5 stone - size 8 in most shops but an occasional size 10

I think you would be a size 14. Is that right?

ItMakesThePeasTasteFunny · 20/08/2012 12:04

I hope not - I'm comfortable in a 14 right now - and squeezing into my size 12 jeans!

GetOrfMoiUsain · 20/08/2012 12:13

I am 6 foot and am currently 10 stone 4, and vary from a size 8 to a 12 dependent on where I shop and what the fit of the garments is like. My weight has fluctuated from 9 stone 7 stone to 12 stone 3 in the last year (not from dieting insanely, illness and steroids).

My ideal weight is around the 10 stone mark. I don't think sizes are at all reliable, as I can be a different size within the same shop dependent on style, but my measurements (I only know this because I measured myself in boredom last night) is 34 bust, 26 waist, 36 hips.

I am very small boned, small bust, long waisted (so despite being very tall I have stupidly short legs).

Sorry to be pedantic but 11 stone 6 lbs is 72.5 kg. 74kg is 11 stone 9lbs.

When not the size of a beached whale pregnant, I am normally 11 stone 7lbs ish and a size 12, occasionally 14 on the bottom depending on the shop. To start getting into size 10s I would have to be getting down towards 11 stone.

GobblersKnob · 20/08/2012 13:08

See that's what baffles me, how can anyone be 11 stone 5'9" and a 10?

(Not saying I don't belive you, it is just so far from my own experience).

I think my dress size goes down by one with each stone so

12 stone = size 16
11 stone = size 14
10 stone = size 12
9 stone = size 10
8 stone = size 8

Decameron · 20/08/2012 14:18

I'm 5'9, 10 1/2 stone and a UK12, but just after my baby was born was 11 stone and fitted in a 12 (though with a muffin top!).

GetOrfMoiUsain · 20/08/2012 14:20

These threads are very interesting but I agree baffling.

I think it must go on body shape etc.

MamaGeekChic · 20/08/2012 14:26

I'm 5'9 and pre-pregnancy was 11st 7 and a size 12 (in Reiss tailoring- my size guide!) currently still carrying some baby weight i'm 12st 5 and a 14.

ItMakesThePeasTasteFunny · 20/08/2012 15:00

I think that age may also be a factor and, sadly, I am not getting younger :(. I have definitely noticed a thickening of my waistline, which was never thin, and clothes that fitted me at this weight five years ago are now tight on my stomach.

OP posts:
ellangirl · 20/08/2012 15:04

I wouldn't be a comfortable size 10 at 11 stone, just would fit into some size 10's, particularly tops and dresses with a looser skirt (I have small rib age-30 bra size and small waist naturally, but bigger hips and thighs). The shops vary so much though really, and that's the key. Just don't search for 1950s dress measurements- it makes us all at least 16s!

knitknack · 20/08/2012 15:14

I'm 5'9", 9 stone 13 and I'm a size 10 but usually a 12 top (don't have big boobs though, don't know how that works!)

QuiteOldGal · 20/08/2012 15:18

GobblersKnob I agree with your list of dress sizes. I am 5'10" and 10st 10lbs and a size 12-14 (and thats in Boden, M & S etc!) Even when I was under 10st I was about a size 12 and I have never been a size 10 in my life, though never been below 9st 5lbs. I think I have fairly big bones though.

I also could not maintain under 10st now I'm older.

Salbertina · 20/08/2012 16:15

So where do we all shop?! Hate long tall Sally with its overpriced, poorly made, badly cut stuff and yet where r all the "tall" ranges in stores alongside their petite sections?? I know top shop have a v limited range in tall but where else? It amazes me, girls seem to be getting taller..real gap in the market!

domesticslattern · 20/08/2012 16:47

Another one adding to the sense of bafflement. I am 5 foot 9 and exactly 74kg- just weighed myself- and am a size 16. Even when I am my preferred weight of 10.5 stone I'm still a 14. I whizzed through size 12 in puberty- doubt I'll ever see it again. Sad

QuiteOldGal · 20/08/2012 16:53

With shopping its a bit hit and miss with length, but I've found the best for me are Boden long length jeans, trousers and dresses, also tops and longish knitwear. GAP for knitwear, trousers and jeans (I'm only size 12 or med in there), Occasional M&S & Next long length, Never Debenhams as they are too short.
I am about 33 inside leg, wear flattish shoes and am fairly long bodied.

Tops, coats and jackets from Next tall and DP tall are generally OK but they are only online (I've very long arms!) but tall trousers are too long.

Overall Boden fit me best but a bit pricy so I buy in the sale, but again they're only online

Salbertina · 20/08/2012 17:00

I only fit Gap jeans ad 34" leg, otherwise their stuff too short.. As is Boden long on me Sad

ItMakesThePeasTasteFunny · 20/08/2012 17:06

Yy to Gap and also buy Boden but don't find their Long is quite long enough so can only buy certain styles. Funnily enough New Look also do longer length trousers and I've had some successes in there.

I find these threads baffling too but from a different perspective. I'm only 5 foot 7 and at 14 stone was a size 14/16. At 12 stone 5 I was a 12/14 and now at 11 stone I'm a 12 on bottom and a 10 on top. I'm aiming to get to 10.5 stone. But for some people here, who are taller than me, they'd still be a 14 at that weight! I don't get it at all!
