Best I could do. Jump in!

Some people put all sorts of stuff on FB though GOS! And don't seem to set their privacy settings so anyone can see pics etc via other friends. A closed group is obviously something different again (although I am not speaking from experience as I am not in one at the moment, but know of people who are.)

girlsofsummer · 16/08/2012 10:22

yes I know. Its all a bit complicated for me. Much prefer it when I meet you all in RL!! ps DD1 has put a chefs hat on her xmas list after seeing a certain photo Grin

AmberNectarine · 16/08/2012 10:28

I don't mind people knowing how deep my obsession with clothes is. I am who I am, and anyone who knows me knows I'm actually a tad deeper than a puddle anyway. Anyone else can swivel. You wouldn't catch a man stressing about posting his golf score on FB because people might judge him for his expensive hobby, so that's the attitude I take. The only person I am remotely accountable to is DH, and of he's happy with me squandering our hard-earned on clothes then that's good enough for me.

And it's precisely that attitude which makes me unpopular with the in-laws.

Think there are some questionable hen night photos on FB, and the occasional use of the 'c' word, but probably nothing life changing.

girlsofsummer · 16/08/2012 10:31

ROFL Amber you should be a stand up comedienne.

TBH it is a point - everyone who knows me knows how obsessed I am.

MarshaBrady · 16/08/2012 10:34

I am totally into nice looking visual things. And pretty much need it to feel ok. So it's not even a shallow thing with me.

Which is fine as I can make £ out of it.

AmberNectarine · 16/08/2012 11:18

Did used to do the occasional open mic night in my yoof, gos. Was good fun. Lacking the requisite life experience at the mo, all I'd have is an anecdote about the time DS wandered in with an, ahem, intimate aid, when the in-laws were visiting...

girlsofsummer · 16/08/2012 11:28

aha Amber on the contrary I think your day to day stuff would be spot on

trixymalixy · 16/08/2012 11:42

I'm an occasional lurker, I would live to join in properly but am a bit intimidated by how glam you all are!! I don't have the budget or the figure to fit in I feel.

I do love looking at all the clothes you link and tend to scroll down for the links and not really read the posts.

I became aware of the volume of lurkers when I posted a link to my Flickr page to show someone my fridge. The picture was looked at hundreds of times even though there were only a couple of posts on the thread.

I'm following a couple of you on pinterest I hope you don't mind me gazing in awe from afar, but if you do please say.

Hopefully · 16/08/2012 11:45

Meant to say, has anyone seen the Me &Em stuff? There is a scoop neck and v neck version of the cap sleeved riches dress. I may get the v neck one in plum and dye it dark brown. Although still tempted by petrol cowl neck one.

Hopefully · 16/08/2012 11:46

The new Me & Em stuff

girlsofsummer · 16/08/2012 11:54

I dont think its about how much you spend trixy. I havent bought much in the last few months at all. Had a bit of a splurge in the new year and have been quite restrained since.

pickledsiblings · 16/08/2012 12:09

These skinnies from GP are a lovely colour. Anyone know how the sizing/fit compares with J Brands? They also come in what looks like a nice green for all you Autumns out there (think I may be one too).

Decameron · 16/08/2012 12:29

Hi Trixy. What are your initials on Pinterest?

How is your DD, GoS?

I think you are right to be careful on FB, NY, I am the same. I'll be deleting my account whenever I start looking for a job just in case. Someone I know works in HR and she googles the prospective employee's name when hiring someone to see what pops up. One of my friends got into a lot of trouble about a photo she posted on FB.

The muted despair/Farrow &Ball comment was my favourite ever Amber comment!

DH was here when the baby's leopard print jeans arrived. He thinks they are too tight and wants her in comfy leggings and dresses but
they are so cute on her. :)

What is on the current wishlists? Mine are a few new tops from Me&Em, this jumper which I have on the way in grey and this cardigan. Then saving madly for a DvF jacket and 50/50s.

We are off to buy school shoes. Have good afternoons!

AmberNectarine · 16/08/2012 12:44

Do we think there'll be Outnet free delivery tomorrow? Few things I fancy...

Now wish list

  • slinky dress (Day Birger? Me&Em hopefully likes, T Alexander Wang ollie has?)
  • black skinnies
  • cobalt Maje jumper
  • C/E leopard cords or jeans
  • C/E star print jeans
  • R&B brogue ankle boots

Anyone watching CBB? A former school chum of mine is on it, so having to watch it!

Emo76 · 16/08/2012 12:46

pickles I Love those jeans - and the top with them
deca those are just too cute, wondering if my enormous nearly-2 year old would fit the biggest size
hello trixy - do stick around!

amber when you relaunch your stand up career can I be your assistant on the drum kit ready for the end of each gag Grin

you know, the reason I love this thread is the warmth that comes through in many of the posts, the wonderful ideas and inspiration you all give me, and the way I often grin at my screen and nod along as I read through. I am not surprised it's popular reading!

MarshaBrady · 16/08/2012 12:48

Trixy hi. Stick around, don't worry about it. Not sure who you are on pin (initials?)

My list is
Black skinnies - Proenza
Angora jumper - acne
or Maje one

Ankle boots. Something that is not a pistol. Given how many want to wear ankle boots I wish designers would do some more.

MarshaBrady · 16/08/2012 12:50

Oh and Amber you'll have to do a thing at the next mu Wink

I'm not surprised you did open mic!

trixymalixy · 16/08/2012 13:10

My pinterest name is the same as my MN name.

I have received one purchase this week which is worthy of this thread although it was an eBay purchase. A Barbour Kate with peacock liberty lining. It is a thing of beauty, I almost can't wait for it to rain so I can wear it, almost...

I was gutted a couple of weeks ago when I ordered the tan suede ASOS Aggies, but they sent me leather instead and now none left in the suede in my size. I need to decide whether to send back and find a suede alternative.

OllieinOrange · 16/08/2012 13:14

Wanted to add my thoughts on the privacy/private group thing. Sorry if the following doesn't make much sense - its more of a stream of consciousness!

I'm fully aware that I am easily identifiable on the thread given where I live and all the drivel I post about. Some of you know that recently I have been 'discovered' in RL and whilst I am not ashamed of anything I write on here, I certainly don't like the thought of now thinking "so and so will read this and mention it to so and so". It has really bothered me. I liked the fact that the thread was a 'separate' part of my life. I certainly dont want to leave - like Rufus and Red have said, I consider you all friends and those of you I have met in RL, close friends (however silly that may seem to other people.....I never thought I would end up making friends over the internet either but there you go)

I am all for a more private group tbh. Many of the above posts mention the level of support they receive from the thread - and that's so true. But would the thread loose that special quality if the majority of us stick to posting about clothes? I've been dying to share some nice news this week but can't because of possible consequences and would have also liked some advice re a friend but again, thought best not to post. Sad. And call me nosey, but I love hearing about your family and work lives. For me, the thread has become much more than just about clothes!

I'm not sure if a private FB group would be the best alternative tho. And Im not sure if I would have the time or energy to post on 2 separate forums (ie FB and MN) if that makes sense???
I'm interested in your experience of private forums. Dona. Were the 2 similar groups you mentioned on specific websites such as MN? I like the fact with MN its easy to scroll through the posts, there is no limit on their length. Are their similar sites which allow private groups? Does anyone else have experience of a private FB group that works.
I hear what you say about such groups dying out but I can only speak for myself and say that I would continue to post the same old stuff - and sure the same would apply to many of you. Is it MN we wish to remain on or the thread? For me, its the thread and the lovely people that contribute to it.

Here endeth etc etc etc

Decameron · 16/08/2012 13:17

For me, it's the thread.
I have the Barbour Kate too, Trixy. Wearing it today as it's raining here!

OllieinOrange · 16/08/2012 13:22

Oh - just seen on my FB the sad news about John Lawton. Hope your friend is managing as best she can GW.

girlsofsummer · 16/08/2012 13:27

Well put Ollie. It is the friendship as well as the fashion that makes this thread such a nice place to come so agree its hard not sharing stuff like you would like to with friends.

DH coming home shortly - havent seen him since Friday kids very excited!

rufus101 · 16/08/2012 13:39

That's so sad Ollie. Closure (over used word I know) at last.
Great trews Decam, ignore DH!
I'm not disciplined with my planning for A/W. If I see one more pair of boots I fall in love with, I'll scream. How can there be so many to tempt me? I lose all reason when it comes to boots.
Ollie am now agog re the exciting news. Stop teasing me!
Amber, you have lots of material at the moment. I'd go to see you! Much better than blokey know it all.
Loath Sambuca. Cannot understand the treat aspect. Can't understand the attraction of liquorice. Vile.

Russianred · 16/08/2012 13:50

Oh Ollie you've phrased that so eloquently. I am in complete agreement with you on every aspect. I did try to just slope off quietly after my experience, but I missed posting here and I missed the posters here (also never thought i'd make friends on the Internet, but there you go!)

I am of the understanding that the flow on a FB private group would be similar to this - posting on a wall essentially, with space for pics. I guess there'd be teething issues but we'd get there. A closed group wouldn't show up anywhere, so none of your other FB acquaintances would be any the wiser and you could set an account up in your MN NN so as to be untraceable - much as some of you have done with Pinterest.

I know I would post with frequency..!

pickledsiblings · 16/08/2012 13:54

Ollie, so sorry to hear that sad news about John Lawton. Thinking of your friend and her family GW and sending you all strength.

Glad to hear you have good news to share Ollie, what a pity you can't share it here as you normally would.
