I have just tried on 15 pairs of jeans and I am about to cry! Please help a size 18 lady.

I am approximately a size 18 (can vary in different shops) and 5ft 7 so often need long leg length. I have just tried on 15 pairs of jeans orderded from Next and M&S and none of them fit or look nice at all. I prefer jeans that sit on the waist (can't be doing with low-rise displaying my mummy tummy). Please help me find some online or recommend me yours. I wear jeans everyday (not brave enough to wear anything else), although if you have trouser recommendations I would love those too. I work at home so need smart casual but not office wear. Any help very much appreciated.

I am completely different height (short legs) and size to you, but feel your pain having experienced jean buying agonies in the past.. I have had some success with recent trouser purchases in Asda.. and TU Sainsbury. I think George do different lengths. Could be worth also going to a Levi stockists, sometimes if you can face it - I know it wasn't my ideal set up being 'eyed up' by some skinny girl and having her bring out tonnes of pairs of jeans for me to squeeze into, however, eventually she did come up with an ideal pair.
Good luck

Next jeans look awful on me (also a size 18). Fiunnily enough the cheapest ones are best. They need to be thickish with a bit of stretch in them. Dorothy Perkins ones are good as are Matalan. You need a dark colour like indigo as it is most flattering and a slight flare to the bottom of the leg if you are pear shape or skinny if you have good legs. Gap are also supposed to be good. If you wear boot cut or skinny flare make sure they sit below your ankle (about an inch off floor is best) or you will look mumsy.

I am also an 18 and my friend just gave me her Gap Curvy Jeans which she got after a MN recommendation.

They are AMAZING, comfortable, fit well on my hour-glass ish shape, and were free (to me). They cost her £50 however....

I really understand your frustrations. I'm size 16 but on 5'3...and finding a a nice jeans with a high waist to cover up the mummy tummy is not an easy business! been trying high and low of from many places..so here's what i found:
next high waist bootcut really good for holding tummy. not to much elastane here..feel very restricted.
not your daughters jeans this jeans fit like a gloves...although I don't like the pocket. It doesn't come down after wearing it whole day. It's comfy and nice.
salsa jeans i love this. makes me feel good. the waist is not really high as the not your daughters jeans.
levis demi curve. The fit is nice but the colour look nicer in the picture rather an real life. I ordered size 34 in this demi curve id but it's slightly big. perhaps size 18 can fit in it.

Thank you both. I will try the supermarkets and browse DP online now. Whenever I find a pair of jeans that I like I normally buy multiple pairs as I hate jeans shopping with a passion. It just so happens that all my jeans have worn out at the same time......
AngryFeet, don't suppose you have bought any nice trousers recently?

Gap is a soul destroying experience too.

I suspect they make short size 16s, I have some. But last time I tried their sizes had changed and I could only get into the 18s.

There was one, far too long, pair in the entire shop.

Horrible experience because they don't put normal sizes so I had to talk to the slim male assistant.

He was very good but, he probably wondered why this silly fat 40 year old woman didn't go to M&S (there jeans fall down, my Gap ones don't).

Do OP I feel your pain.

snowybaby · 09/08/2012 15:36

opps..forgot to add..boden straightleg jeans is nice as well. comfy with a nice clour. but sizing is a bit hit and miss. order few size up and smaller.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 09/08/2012 15:41

I'm a size 18 and almost always end up buying jeans from Asda or DP - they're the only ones that seem to fit everywhere. If you fancy trousers for a change I've been buying peg cut / chino type trousers and they're really flattering.

These are my favourites so far

these are a bit more casual but still smart iyswim

instead of jeans

I hate jeans but wear them because it's easy but I'm loving the chino trend - much more me.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 09/08/2012 15:43

The first link I have the black not the beige!

Dolallytats · 09/08/2012 15:56

I am a size 18 and 5'2 (so like a ball really!!) and find New Look jeans (just the cheap ones) are good and I got a pair from Evans when New Look didn't have any in stock. They are also a good pair of jeans.

Now, if someone could point me in the direction of the shop that stocks 'Will power when dieting', I would be most grateful!!

bigpants103 · 09/08/2012 16:05

Dont know if they have been mentioned but TOTALLy recommend the M&S 5 pocket jeggings. Really high waisted and really stretchy. On offer at the minute. Another thread about them somewhere. I've recommended them to my size 18 friend and a size 8 one and they both love them too.

yellowraincoat · 09/08/2012 16:07

I feel your pain too. Totally different height and size to you, short and skinny but I have been looking for jeans for 6 months and no joy.

Ridiculous. Who the hell do they make jeans for?

Approximately · 09/08/2012 16:09

Thank you all so much for your ideas. Not only have I got lots of links to look at but you have all made me feel so much better. It is easy to forget that you are not the only non-size 10 out there when you are crying into yet another pair of trousers that don't fit!
bigpants103. Did they look ok on your size 18 friend? I would love to be able to wear long boots but am scared of looking bigger than I am.

I have been shopping recently to New look and was quite impressed with their stock. Their jeggings come in larger sizes and thick indigo denim with a longish leg. i guess to turn up a little as is the fashion.matalan do loads and loads of jeans so take loads in to changing rooms and dont worry if you come out with one pair .

FizzyFishAddict · 09/08/2012 16:12

Can i put in a good word for miracle fit jeans (sold by Matalan)
They only do them in larger sizes and they are very, very flattering.
I tried on a pair once by accident (they were in the sale, picked them up thinking they were normal jeans) and could not believe how much better i looked in them!
Come up to the waist, and always slightly too long for me (I'm 5'6) so i'm hoping they will be long enough for you.
I've just been on the matalan website, though and can't find them
I'm hoping they have just run out of stock or else i will cry
worth looking out for

albertswearengen · 09/08/2012 16:14

I'm an 18 and I find the problem is the waist height as I have very high waist. I ended up after a long search with pairs from M&Co and Evans. They look fine I just don't think where they came from cos it seems so frumpy. M &Co had really nice ones but they were way too long for me so probably ok for you.

skrumle · 09/08/2012 16:15

I've had jeans from planet but they don't have any I like at the mo. they're def cut for someone taller and you'd only be a 16 by their sizing. I keep trying to find Levi's in tk maxx but they never have my size... The ones I've tried on have seemed nice which has just made me keener!

mampam · 09/08/2012 16:16

Simply Be are good for jeans and have high waists.

AngryFeet · 09/08/2012 16:16

All my smart black trousers are from new look. I have to go instore to make sure the material of the ones i get isnt that nasty shiny polyester. I have some lovely wide leg and bootcut trousers from there.

Approximately · 09/08/2012 16:28

Right, 6 pairs of Dorothy Perkins Jeans ordered to arrive tomorrow. Got some different sizes and lengths to play around with. Hmmm, which ones to order next (flexes credit card...). I'm determined to crack this and when I do have "the ones" I am going to buy every pair in my size that I can afford!

OP posts:
cansu · 09/08/2012 16:30

You could always try wallis. I always buy mine here as they are more generous fit.

Krumbum · 09/08/2012 16:32

New look, Evans or Dorothy perkins. They all so some high rise and longer lengths. Evans do jeans for different shapes, pear, apple or hourglass and they do a longer length.

HappyAsEyeAm · 09/08/2012 16:41

Gap Curvy are the only jeans that fit me. And I have bought loads of jeans in the past in desperation - they almost fit, but not quite and basically were the best of a bad bunch. I only buy Gap Curvy now. I get them shortened as I am a short arse.

Runoutofideas · 09/08/2012 16:42

I'm the same size as you, only shorter and was going to recommend New Look too. They do lots of different lengths and are good value. Am currently living in M&S linen trousers as I can't face the hell that is jeans shopping!

Dawndonna · 09/08/2012 17:09

I'm an eighteen. I live in these:
