I have just tried on 15 pairs of jeans and I am about to cry! Please help a size 18 lady.

I am approximately a size 18 (can vary in different shops) and 5ft 7 so often need long leg length. I have just tried on 15 pairs of jeans orderded from Next and M&S and none of them fit or look nice at all. I prefer jeans that sit on the waist (can't be doing with low-rise displaying my mummy tummy). Please help me find some online or recommend me yours. I wear jeans everyday (not brave enough to wear anything else), although if you have trouser recommendations I would love those too. I work at home so need smart casual but not office wear. Any help very much appreciated.

Yeah my friend looked fine. She bought red, indigo mix and the normal denim colour. Think she got the red a size bigger so they weren't as tight because of the brighter colour. She wears them all with a longer top which looks nice.

I just have to put my recommendation in for Sainsburys TU jeggings that are ££12.50 - so definitely worth a try!
They come in loads of different jean colours, and as they are jeggings they have a elasticated (without looking elasticated!) waist that makes them soo comfy.
They don't come in leg lengths, but I'm 5"10 and they are plenty long enough for me. I've recommended them to so many people, and haven't heard a bad word about them back. Also recommended them to some curvier friends (who thought they couldn't wear skinny jeans/jeggings) and they've absolutely loved them too!
Plus, £12.50 is a total bargain!

fluffywhitekittens · 09/08/2012 19:48

Have you tried Evans?

Approximately · 09/08/2012 23:25

Brilliant, thank you all so very much. I have now ordered the jeggings from M&S, some jeans from Evans too and am going to pop to Sainsburys over the weekend too to try their jeggings. Off to browse New Look now. I honestly thought that all the recommendations would be for expensive jeans so I am delighted with all your recommendations.
Must start thinking about trousers soon too. i have been wearing nothing but jeans for the past 8 years. Hate skirts and dresses but I should be brave and venture into trousers occasionally.

I second the m and s jeggins, the 5 pocket ones. I am 5 foot 9 and currently a 16 and have 5 pairs of them. Very flattering and comfortable and can be dressed up or down. Hope you like them.

NoComet · 10/08/2012 15:18

I'm going to have a look at DP too, thanks folks.

I have some M&S jeggins look nice, but fall down with out a belt.

Evans start at 16 and are a bit loose and apple shaped on me.

archareastie · 10/08/2012 15:21

I have this problem too - everything is too tight in the tum or too long in the leg. The only success I've ever had is in New Look and Dotty Ps.

Approximately · 10/08/2012 15:58

Ok, 6 pairs of DP jeans have arrived and are now going back to the shop.....all too short in the rise. I am keeping a very nice scarf and top that I ordered, but the point of the order was the jeans and they don't fit!

Haven't had time to read rest of thread as on phone but I am similar and find New Look jeans great and good value.

uggmum · 10/08/2012 16:09

You could try fat face. I get all my jeans from there and find them really comfortable. Bit pricy but good quality.

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 10/08/2012 16:13

Hi, I used to wear a size 18 and I am 5ft 8.

I always wore Fat Face jeans (I worked there and therefore they were cheap Grin) they use the softest denim and the quality is great. They are well known in the market for oversizing in their fits so an 18 will definitely be ok, as I used to wear a 16 (thin hips/barrel waist). They have a lot of styles and shapes, belts also to fit a larger waist and generally non judgey pants assistants. Go for bootcut or boyfriend fit.

You can buy online and return to a store of you like too.

I also second the Gap curvy fit jeans. My local store had a lovely manager on duty who discreetly guessed my size and brought me a selection to try. I chose a dark navy pair with fold down pockets (made my bum look smaller) and a slight stretch. I had to have them taken up - but for £10 more I had a perfect pair of jeans that I feel confident in. Absolutely love them. You can also order these online and there is a voucher going around at the mo for 30% off?

I went on a trip to NY and found the GAP there has a much better range of sizes in the denim wall than the UK sadly. I also bought a few pairs in Old Navy - is that store in the UK yet?

I know you prefer a style "up the waist" but the direction really is going into the comfort fit these days. They do take some getting used to, but with a decent belt they dont' fall down and you don't get the camel's toe issue!

SorrelForbes · 10/08/2012 16:15

The best high rise jeans that I've found on the high street are the Gap High Rise Skinnies. However, for some odd reason Gap aren't making them at the moment. The manager in my nearest store says they're very popular so will almost definitely be brought out again. Worth keeping your eyes on the website.

anna1991 · 11/08/2012 22:00

Hi, I used to be a size 18-22 and I share your pain. I found that jeans, trousers from the H&M range (Big is Beautiful) fitted well. They were quite cheap too so I did not mind giving them away when I lost the weight !

ggirl · 11/08/2012 23:35

i live in these m&s jeggings they fit like slim leg jeans on me as the legs are not skin tight on me but i like them like that

FannyFifer · 11/08/2012 23:38

I find the Evans straight leg jeans fit well, am an 18 also.

amimagic · 11/08/2012 23:42

Size 16 pear shape here, and I've recently found monsoon jeans to fit nicely and flatter my shape. I have 3 pairs now of differing styles.

I don't buy anything else from Monsoon and was quite surprised how good the jeans are. Can't link from phone.

Urgh, hate buying jeans. I'm a size 20 and 5'8" so a bit bigger than you but I have 2 pairs of jeans from Debenhams that don't make me look too grotesque. I am pretty sure they were Rocha John Rocha. Good luck!

Megglevache · 12/08/2012 20:49

When I was an 18/20/22 i found DP and New Look were the best. NL had tonnes of stretch so I'd fit into skinnies and look fine.

Now I'm no longer those sizes I look weird in their jeans- bizarre.

HaveAGoodDay · 12/08/2012 20:54

I can vouch for the M&S 5 pocket Jeggings too. They are so comfy!
