What will I wear with my new skinny autumn jeans on my feet?

Tertius · 06/08/2012 21:50

just bought some new lovely gap skinny denim leggings in green, plum and a dark blue... They look good with ballet pumps... But I am wondering how I am going to wear them in the rain?

Will they look odd tucked into boots? (I have flat black ones with buckles and also brown tan flat mid high boots)...

Would brogues be the thing? And do you wear socks in that case? The jeans are slightly cropped.

I haven't thought about clothes or style for a few years but suddenly am finding it fun again... But seem to have a lot of new rules to work out!

I have been living in blue, black or grey skinnies and jumpers with converse or ballet pumps for years now. And having thrown some colour into the mix am all confused.

Also what colour do you wear on top with wine and bottle green???

Help me please! Thanks so much..... It a minefield.

I almost wish I'd stuck to my blue grey palate, as then I wouldnt have to think!

Marking my spot as been wondering the same Smile

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 06/08/2012 21:53

Don't know the answer, but the jeans sound fab- off to go hunt some now!

HugeMedalTally · 06/08/2012 21:55

Yes, I'm wondering as well, as someone today said on another thread that jeans tucked into boots was a bit dated. Although, maybe they meant those particular boots.

boodles · 06/08/2012 22:01

I would like to know this too...

MrsRyanLochte · 06/08/2012 22:04

Was planning on purchasing those very same skinnies (I take it you're talking about these beauties ?)

I was planning to wear them with boots&pageSize=20 these I don't know why the link comes up weirdly but hopefully it works

As an aside, you say you have the tropic green colour - is the colour a bit deeper than shown in the pic? Because Gap show them elsewhere on the website and the colour looks darker and richer than in the pic.

hettie · 06/08/2012 22:05

ankle boots.....

MrsRyanLochte · 06/08/2012 22:10

On top, I was planning on wearing with a breton or two, maybe this but not sure if fitted enough.

Tertius · 06/08/2012 22:13

Yes, those are they. And the green is nicer in reality. I am v pleased with them. And my taste is classic (bordering on the too understated!).

Ankle boots - yes - but how? Do they have to be heeled? I prefer flats.

I do own a pair of these hiker style fitflop boots that sound awful but are actually okay looking. They are green too. Maybe they'd do.

I Have a feeling that jeans/ leggings tucked into boots is dated as I've been wearing it a long time!

Any more help on the ankle boot front?

What do you say to brogues? A bit of a draft around the ankle? Too spring like for autumn?

Love the Breton. Nice familiar territory too!

Just looked at the topshop boots. V nice. Think my back might ache too much after a long day though. But that's obviously the way to go.

Will anyone be wearing high boots anymore?

OP posts:
MrsRyanLochte · 06/08/2012 22:22

I love brogues with coloured skinnies but socks are a no-no if the jeans are cropped. You'd probably be ok for most of sept/oct but might be too cold from nov onwards. I like heeled ones as I need leg lengthening but maybe chelsea style boots if you wanted flat ones?

MrsRyanLochte · 06/08/2012 22:26

I think loads of people will still be wearing knee high boots but maybe ankle boots a little more of the moment. I'll be honest - the reason I love ankle boots is because I have size 4 feet but really muscular legs (not quite Chris Hoy but getting there...) and therefore can never find knee boots that will do up.

Tertius · 06/08/2012 22:32

Thank you! I will experiment a bit. Might buy brogues for Early autumn and then wear my sheep skin lined bikers for park and heeled boots for work. That'd be a compromise!

My goodness, Emerging from baby land is quite weird when you haven't thought about clothes for ages.

Sorry to bang on about it but do you think knee high boots and skirts is passee too? Just interested really.

Thanks for help!

I don't really know about knee boots tbh, I've never worn them. Seem like quite a classic item though, one that doesn't really date. Not sure though!

CointreauVersial · 07/08/2012 00:13

Ankle boots. Can be flat (e.g. chelsea boots), or with a heel.

These are really nice.

justasecond · 07/08/2012 17:06

Those TS ones are nice but the leather not great, but then s'pose they are only £45. I have ordered these to see what they are like, they also have them in other colours
mango ankle boots

MrsRyanLochte · 07/08/2012 17:19

Oooh I like those mango ankle boots but WHY WHY WHY do so many have to have the discolouration at the toes - it just makes them look really shabby when they haven't even been worn (I'm looking at you Ash Jalouse)

BeattieBow · 07/08/2012 17:22

can't help but just to say the Gap sales person told me the next 30% promotion will be out on Friday.

(would second ankle boots, or those slipper things maybe?)

MrsRyanLochte · 07/08/2012 17:29

Thank you beattie - will be purchasing my skinnies then! Very helpful.

MyinnergoddessisatLidl · 07/08/2012 17:42

Ballet flats take you nicely into September.

Pixie boots seem to be on trend this year for AW

Aldo certainly have a good choice as do Kurt Geiger

I bought a pair in NYC in Jan, can't find picture sorry, but they were tan suede flat zipped pixie boots with a crossover strap around the ankle. They are soooo comfy.

For a top, I think a cream loose blouse in sheer gossamer finish would go well with both colours, you could dress it up or down depending on where you were going. topshop have a good selection

Day to day a boatneck 3/4 sleeve tee would go well. I wear a long length breton with a military style jacket over my skinnys for work.

Tertius · 07/08/2012 19:18

thank you all. seriously helpful.

i am putting my fingers in my ears about the gap discount. (had to seize the moment).

ankle boot shopping I go (on the internet).

and tops too!

OP posts:
mewkins · 07/08/2012 20:29

Well I for one will still be wearing calf length boots (none of my boots reach anywhere near my knees) as have skinny ankles so would look bad in ankle boots. Also, is it just me or do ankle boots sometimes look like pig trotters and/or make the wearer look a bit bow-legged. Anyway I feel like winter is a time of being practical and want my feet to stay warm and dry. Anyway, tops I wear layered tshirts, jumpers, cardigans with blouses and shirts underneath and the odd tunic or dress. I love a stripey breton or jumper too and there are lots of nice light cotton ones about at the moment.

NotMostPeople · 07/08/2012 20:57

I have the NewLook pistol-a-likes that we're even cheaper than the top shop ones (not leather though). I'm planning to get a pair of Chelsea boots and brogues. I fancy www.johnlewis.com/336501/Product.aspx?s_pccid=pc_gs__&. Tops will be like shop.mango.com/GB/p0/mango/clothing/cardigans-and-sweaters/jumpers/ribbed-details-loose-fit-jumper/?id=73210251_KA&n=1&s=prendas.cardigans&ie=0&m=&ts=1344369101063. There are some nice Chelsea boots at asos.

busyboysmum · 07/08/2012 21:19

Would these boots be OK with skinny jeans do you think?:

boots

suze28 · 07/08/2012 21:46

busy, I love those boots in the mink colour. Might have to get myself a pair. Topshop is somewhere I don't tend to go into, far too old at 40, but maybe I should now. I'll be a student again for the coming year so need to get some more (trendy!) clothes.

I've got the Gap legging jeans in the very dark indigo colour and they are lush.
