Nails??

BonkeySaysTeamGBAreTheMollocks · 04/08/2012 21:37

How many of you paint your nails or have them 'done' ??

I'm not really one for it but if I do I tend to go for pale pink if I do. Subtle but looks nice I thought.

However, I have just painted the bright pink Shock , I'm not really one for bright colours. Not sure if I like them or not. Will I get used to them? bad choice?
Confused

I like that. Its what I would go for normally.

'Disco pink' is really out there for me, I am a blend into the background type of girl...or at least I used to be. I am on a mission to lose weight and take more time on myself so I though I would give it a whirl :)

Still not sure, may have to wait and see what i think in the morning in daylight .

My nails are nearly always painted (do them myself) and could be any colour from black to pale pink and everything in between. Currently a cornflower lue colour.

Casmama · 04/08/2012 22:35

Blue

Two things which make me feel instantly more groomed and attractive are neat eyebrows and neat nails. I use a wide range of colours on my fingernails and they are usually bright and noticeable (currently sporting a gorgeous sunny orange from L'Oreal).

The secret to a bright colour lasting well IMO is a good base and top coat (I use one by Creative Nails) and keeping your nails short and supple by using daily dose of cuticle oil (I use Solar Oil) and plenty of hand cream. This ensures both the nail and polish are kept supple and less likely to break/chip. I last painted my nails on Monday and they are still looking shiny and freshly applied 6 days later (despite cleaning house top to bottom without rubber gloves, gardening, playing with dogs and DCs etc)

I paint my nails about every 3 days. I'm completely obsessed and have every colour and finish you can think of. Bright pink sounds like a good choice! But my favourites are greens and oranges.
Get down to Sally's beauty supply and look at china glaze polishes. They have such interesting, unique colours and are very good quality.

I have recently grown my nails long for the first time in my entire life - before this they were bitten stumps, which I always felt like I had to hide away, so never had the chance to wear rings, nail polish, etc.
Now, I'm kind of so excited to play around with them that I've been experimenting with colours quite a bit - currently I'm wearing a deep red along with dusky pink on alternate fingers (topshop do the best in my opinion), it's like having a brand new accessory that I've never experienced before!

I say just enjoy having fun with it all.

LulaPalooza · 05/08/2012 12:40

I know exactly what you mean, Toasted

I am a little bit obsessed with nails and nail polish. I was a prolific nail biter until 2009. I now have a huge stash of every colour under the sun (more or less. Except navy blue. I hate navy blue as I associate it with school).

I am wearing a fairly boring pink/ beige on my fingernails at the moment as my nails are quite short - had to cut them down as I broke a few.

Am rocking a v bright shocking pink Ciate polish on my toes. It came free with a magazine last month.

justtryingtodomybest · 05/08/2012 12:42

I've actually just resolved to do my nails more often as part of my aim to spend more time doing things for myself that I enjoy.
So I've spent this morning doing them very carefully in a Leighton Denny colour called Just Perfect which is quite a deep pink.
I put on a base coat followed by two coats of polish and a top coat of Seche Vite. I also got a Leighton Denny corrector pen to help tidy up the edges.
I think they look good just now but I haven't actually moved or done anything yet so I'll see how they last through the week.

carrielou2007 · 05/08/2012 13:30

I have my nails done every three weeks or so with French manicure with bio sculpture gel. Normal nail polish just comes off as I gave to wash my hands before every patient.

I'm off at the min (just had eye op) so have been painting on top of the gel. Wearing No 7 cheeky chops gorgeous as normally obs for toes.

Have to do it every few days and only able to see with one eye makes it a challenge!!

justtryingtodomybest · 05/08/2012 14:39

I would love to have Shellac on my finger nails all the time but I just can't afford it. So I'll just need to keep practising until my own manicure efforts look at least semi-professional.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/08/2012 15:11

I do mine at least once a week, all sorts of different colours, but it never lasts more than 3 or 4 days without chipping, despite using base coat, Seche Vite and keeping them very short (about 2mm of white showing). Pale colours last longer as a bit of wear and tear doesn't show, but darks are usually 2 days max wear for me. The main problem I have is the edges rubbing off and the white of my nail showing, this happens even if I take the polish and/or topcoat over the edges. I tend to use darks/brights more in winter and pale colours in summer.

However, doing it very frequently means I am pretty good at it now, and it only takes about 15 mins, I do it just before I go to bed, let them dry for 5 mins before putting the light out, fast drying topcoats really make it so much easier.

Casmama - could you link to your cornflower blue please? I love that colour.

LulaPalooza · 05/08/2012 15:54

I got bored of the pink on my fingernails so have just re-done them with Nails Inc Covent Garden Ballet

lauratheexplorer · 05/08/2012 15:57

I paint my nails a lot. I go for a very light nude pink day to day but I have lots of colours from metallic blue to mint green to black that I like to paint them when I feel I need a bit of a boost to an all black outfit etc.

I suspect it's just a big change for you. Keep them for a few days and if you start to like them, great. Some people just prefer more naturally coloured nails or a simple French manicure.

NettOlympicSuperstar · 05/08/2012 16:00

I love painting my nails.
I own loads of nail varnishes, and buy more all the time.
I have them every colour, from black, to nude, to kermit green!
They are currently purple with pink glitter over the top.

NettOlympicSuperstar · 05/08/2012 16:01

Wow, I love that colour laura, will be purchasing asap.

LulaPalooza · 05/08/2012 16:17

Was that to me, Nett ?

LulaPalooza · 05/08/2012 16:19

I think Covent Garden Ballet is only available in a collection

Rachel130690 · 05/08/2012 16:23

I get my boyfriends sister to do my nails. It's not something I'd do all the time,

Can't link but if you search for Jessica geleration coral it's what I have on and last time I had Jessica geleration pink explosion. Took me a while to get used to but I loved it.

NettOlympicSuperstar · 05/08/2012 16:25

Ah yes, sorry, I did mean you.
Will have to wait a couple of weeks now I've seen the price, but I will be buying, I love it.

catinboots · 05/08/2012 16:28

Netto - how were the oysters??

LulaPalooza · 05/08/2012 16:28

The other colours in the collection are really nice too

NettOlympicSuperstar · 05/08/2012 16:34

Fabulous cat, will pm you the link when I get them on my blog (which is shite btw, but shows what I've been cooking!)
Yes, Lula, I like the look of all of them.
Most of my nail varnishes are budget brands-Barry M, Rimmel and the like, but I do have Seche Vite base and topcoat to help them last, and a few OPI's and Leighton Dennys.
