Where are suburban and red?

blossoming · 09/08/2012 13:09

Yup fritzi, cut for a 12 yr old!
That's a lot of people watching your swimsuit!

blue2711 · 09/08/2012 13:15

Laughing at you with the cold flannel bloss. Know all too well that gulf between how you picture something will look and the grim reality... Agree with fritzi, it's the playsuit's fault, the gorgeous Gigis are coming, and your holiday wardrobe rocks. Really want a bandeau one piece for Majorca in September but need something with boob enhancing padding... Not easy to find.

I too am ok with the idea of Botox amber but no way for you at 27! You look stunning in your profile pic.

girlsofsummer · 09/08/2012 13:21

Bloss your post made me laugh out loud re flannel and lie down

TBH that playsuit would be about the most unflattering thing on my body I could imagine ? horizontal stripes, thin jersey and strapless none of which would do me any favours!

Amber as someone who really does have proper deep frown lines I will report back on the frownies Grin there is a customer review from someone who started them at your age swearing by them.

DonaAna · 09/08/2012 13:36

Hi all, found a great Japanese book in the local library called Roots of Street style. It laid out in great detail all fashion fads of the 20th century - for example BCBG in 85-88 ( we look like that now!) and 1939 Military (big this AW). Do you remember when we all wore slips over T shirts? High socks? Cargo pants? If I can make a prediction from the book, bodycon and anklets will soon be back, followed by grunge? My fixation with twinsets apparently dates back to 1995 Jackie O revival Grin Did you ever wear dog collar chokers?

NY how do you prepare your oatmeal

At parents today - DH having minor eye surgery. Visited a former student of mummy's who lives nearby and is seriously ill. She's in her 40s with two DC, all very sad and unfair.

AmberNectarine · 09/08/2012 13:49

I had a red Studded PVC dog collar and a purple velvet one studded with rhinestones. Also used to wear oversized cargo pants with a little crop top.

MarshaBrady · 09/08/2012 13:54

Yep spaghetti straps slip dress over tshirt and long socks.

girlsofsummer · 09/08/2012 14:14

I loved grunge. Floral mini dresses and big stompy boots. And the music of course! While hanging around in seedy bars preferably Wink

Hope something as cool as that is in when my DDs are teens.

Also the whole 1960?s look ? lots of vintage polyester minis in silver etc (wish I had held onto them they would cost a fortune now).

What about PVC? That was fun.

Didnt really get into the slips over t-shirt look it was too conservative for me at the time.

I wore over the knee socks too but being the total tart I was always with short mini dresses and skirts.

Bonsoir · 09/08/2012 14:17

Just popping in on this conversation! There's an English teacher at DD's school who must be about 40 and who wears head-to-toe grunge every day Shock. I expect she left the UK when it was in fashion and always rejected a more polished and groomed Parisian look, and so failed to update.

girlsofsummer · 09/08/2012 14:19

Grin Bonsoir

MrsCampbellBlack · 09/08/2012 14:20

Looby - we have a Ford S-max - I do like it as its safe and doesn't feel too enormous when I drive it. However I can't wait until I can have a smaller car. Cars do not interest me in the slightest - I'd be perfectly happy with a Ford Fiesta and spending the rest on handbags Wink

Amber - as I've mentioned before I have botox and love it but I am considerably older than you. There are going to be botox scare stories but it has been used for a long time for medical reasons and not just vanity. But the key is to find a really good practitioner with a very light touch. I don't think its obvious I've had botox - god DH didn't notice until I finally told him but it has markedly improved my frown lines. And I don't want anything else doing - well not at the moment Smile But I would leave it a few more years I think if I were you.

I am on a self-imposed shopping ban as we have some big expenses coming up to do with boring cars and even more boring garden fencing. Dullsville.

Have lovely holidays all those off soon.

girlsofsummer · 09/08/2012 14:21

I generally agree with the principle that if you remember a fashion first time around probably best to avoid a revival.

MarshaBrady · 09/08/2012 14:22

Oh yes black boots and long socks. Grungy bars. Short skirts. Mad-ish very blonde hair. Didn't do the velvet choker thing (! at that) but my friend did a lot.

blossoming · 09/08/2012 14:49

Well DHL just phoned; demanded release money, and assured me my gigis will arrive tomorrow bt 9 and 5. Phew that's cutting it fine.

blossoming · 09/08/2012 14:52

I did male grunge! Black jeans, nirvana tee shirt, plaid shirt, DMs.

MarshaBrady · 09/08/2012 14:54

Love these grunge stories! Grin

Melbourne embraced it wholeheartedly. Probably still does.

Last time I went back I saw tutu like dresses, tiny cardigans, so many layers and dms with red shaved up one side hair.

notyummy · 09/08/2012 15:19

Grunge tastic at uni here too. DMs or monkey boots. Vintage dresses from shop called Flip of Hollywood in Glasgow. Also oversized jumpers with leggings and boots.

Having a lovely day. Biscuits made. Insanity done. Cleaning complete. About to wrap DHs birthday presents whilst watching the Olympic BMX which is soooo exciting!! I tried to get tickets but had no luck. Feel a bit like a Ronan going to the coliseum to watch blood sports though- so many massive crashes.

Dona- my porridge is embarrassingly easy due to time issues and having to do it at work. 2 Dorset cereals porridge sachets (no dust/sugar) plus 400mls skimmed milk...and microwave for 3 minutes. Voila!

notyummy · 09/08/2012 15:21

MrsCB- snap at the fencing expense. We do not have a big garden and it is costing us £1800 to have the place re-fenced. Hmm

DonaAna · 09/08/2012 15:34

Pvc and bondage come after grunge - so don't recycle your whips yet Amber. Met DH for the first time when he wore very Kurt-influenced flannel plaid shirts and a poetic goatee

I did that velvet collar band thing... Oh yes and bodycon (remember Alaia and the Leger dress the first time around?) and black over the knee socks with purple lopstick. And the whole demure Chanel and Jackie O revival thing. Remember when white lipstick and electric blue mascara were in? And mohair batwing sweaters? Or the Boy George look? Grin

Anyhow the Japanese book is great because it explains all past style rules of the past (if I remember correctly the Chelsea boot was essential to BCBG look, and it absolutely required straight leg jeans) - sounds like mum boot + bootcut or Pistols + skinnies laws doesn't it. (Does someone remember wallaby boots? Remember when one pair of shoes - Doc Martens - was right for all occasions?)

MarshaBrady · 09/08/2012 15:40

lol at disguising his bureaucratic soul Grin

I have always lamented not buying an Azzedine Alaia dress in New York at 22. I was in NYC, and 22 - the best time to wear such a thing. Pretty much a black leotard shape with such a very short skirt. It was a beauty.

DonaAna · 09/08/2012 15:42

Lipstick dipstick...
NY another oatmeal minimalist here (rolled oats plus water, no salt, no sugar, eaten cold. The secret of my slimness - should patent the oatmeal cold method and start lots of threads titled "Swear by OCM!!! OMG

DonaAna · 09/08/2012 15:50

yes Marsha exactly - just passed some shop windows in Rome, saw the bandage dresses Amber recently saw at TJ Maxx and thought that I really don't have the body any more for that.

MrsCampbellBlack · 09/08/2012 16:37

Oooh NY how many meteres is that we're just having one boundary done which is 27m and we're paying £1,400 but fortunately are splitting it with the neighbours on that side. Fortunately the rest of our boundaries are walls with farmers being the neighbours and they're not as fussy about the fence.

blue2711 · 09/08/2012 16:46

Isn't it nice to have the sunshine back? Am wearing black vest style slim maxi dress, with neon pink shorouk necklace and leopard Gigis to jazz it up a bit.

Bit gutted that the Olympics will all be over this time next week. I've literally had it on in the background all day everyday.

Holidays: love hearing about your different travels. We have been abroad many times with DS and already once with DD but mostly only to our beloved Majorca. I did use to have lots of exotic holidays / spells abroad (favourites definitely Brazil, NY, Sydney and Thailand) but since meeting DH we have never managed more than a week away anywhere owing to his equally beloved business. I harbour hopes of him taking more time off in the future and us taking long trips in the school holidays [optimistic / naive]. Travelling with little ones is definitely not relaxing but totally worth it (except for maybe that time when DS vomited all over me and the air stewardess had to bring me a fresh seat).
