I am agog to hear how Amber's night out ended. Hope it went well, lovely, and your DH wasn't a PITA.

Apparently the twittersphere agreed that ending on bloody Macca wasn't a great idea. A shame after an amazing opening ceremony. Just loved absolutely every other aspect though.

DS2 is destroying the house while I watch Olympics Breakfast on bbc. Suspect this may become a theme.

AmberNectarine · 28/07/2012 08:03

Surely you can guess hopefully? I raced home to save his bacon and got a load of earache as a result. She wasn't even crying when I got home, she was sitting up happily watching TV. Ah, well, it was a fun night and I have a horrific hangover. Shame about the leather trousers, saw some nice Joseph ones in InStyle for £595.

Have sky+ opening ceremony so will catch up when I can drag myself out of bed...

DonaAna · 28/07/2012 08:10

Hello again from style hell where adults wear crocs.
DDs have tanned. Both have extremely long legs and look like mini supermodels with their blonde hair. Forgot their crocs in Italy, boo-hoo.

The DHL man was very cute shy blonde. He brought me 3 bottles of perfume from Paris and took away some unwanted Matches bits (bye bye neon orange).

Nice weather once again, going to another petting zoo wearing the Marant and accessorizing either with Havaianas or cheap red ballet flats picked up at the local shoe store. It's a very good store actually - bought three pairs of excellent leather Kavat shoes for DD1 at rock bottom prices (50% off). I come here every year and buy almost all children's shoes here.

Yesterday's big excursions: 5K run with Middlemarch, twice to supermarket and crossing the big, busy road and going to the local library (can you tell I'm bored?). The library was amazing for such a small townlet in the middle of nowhere: books in three languages. Got a library card (have come here to MiL's for about 15 yrs every summer - about time) and checked out The Shipping News by Annie Proulx. Recommended - haven't been able to put it down.

Amber hope you didn't have to return home too early!
Loving the Olympics posts. Looking forward to blazer updates and news from the training.

Morning,

Gosh dona style crimes aside, running, reading and libraries sound amazing to me.

I am on the bloss side of opening ceremonies, but was suitably impressed, especially by mr Afghanistan.

Such a shame about the leather trews hopelly maybe you could get a pair made for you??

amber grrr to your DH, but glad you had a good time, outfit sounds great.

How was your son's appointment always?

I am starving but dd and do have fallen asleep on the sofa in the kitchen, am wondering what I can concoct for myself without waking them up....

Weather was meant to break today, but is super sunny here, bonus!

Hopefully · 28/07/2012 08:51

I have one pair of work appropriate trousers. And I have lost them. Argh.

blossoming · 28/07/2012 08:59

I'm going to another zoo too dona. Went to London, took the dcs to the aquarium, DH took them to Battersea Park zoo, and today, as he is on his rugby coaching course, when I can get a wriggle on, we're going to a more local zoo. My dcs will have had their fill of animals by then. But it will take the whole day, as it is an hour's drive before we get there.
Sorry your night out was curtailed amber, but yeah for hangover (iykwim)
I obviously went to bed before the fit men arrived last night - typical!
Have great days all.

Hopefully · 28/07/2012 09:11

Right. you all have about four minutes to tell me. Will Bicester be insanely busy on a saturday during the olympics? Have accepted that one pencil skirt, two OK(ish, at a push) tops, a dress, a blazer, one necklace and three bracelets are not enough to get me through two weeks of training. Am about to get in the car, but am prepared to be put off if it's going to be insane.

blossoming · 28/07/2012 09:19

Go hopefully, go..

MidnightinMoscow · 28/07/2012 09:37

Yes, go Hopefully.

Sorry your night out was cut a bit short Amber, but sounds like you still had a good time.

Another sunny day here, I am wearing a really old Monsoon dress that I come back to every summer - Black cotton belted shift with broderie anglaise. Fits me whether size I am, and always makes me feel very together. It must be 10 years old though.

Cake turned out well, very easy to do and I would recommend it as a dessert - so a good one when you want to prepare something ahead. Chicken was nice, but visually uninspiring, and I find that annoying.

pickledsiblings · 28/07/2012 10:58

Morning All

Amber, glad you got some time out with your friends, outfit sounded cool.

Olympic OC was a hoot, I though the Danes were the most beautiful.n The cauldron was spectacular and I didn't mind Sir Paul - he can still sing and it's nice that he wasn't trumped by someone younger/more beautiful. Beckham looked fab on the boat and I noticed all the pretty girls much more than the fit men Hmm. Red and MiM, you did make me laugh.

MiM, I couldn't help imagining you in the NHS scene, I wondered if you might have something to confess this morning Grin.

Hopefully, pity about the trew but there will be others. Everything, that Boden stripey top was made for you.

Always, hope you and DS have been given some reassurance.

Hopefully · 28/07/2012 11:06

Have made it 4/5ths of the way to Bicester without incident, but now sat in v dull queue. Hope I find a few bits!

DonaAna · 28/07/2012 11:34

Hopefully don't panic buy a lot - I always regret it. Rather, present yourself as a case-in-progress during your training. I'm sure you'll be full of ideas and inspiration after it. And if autumn is your season you'll have much richer pickings at the end of year sales. So buy one or two pieces but do try to hold back - I like your thoughtful way of building a wardrobe. I'm a maximalist but always prefer one or two outfits over the others (currently the Marant or layered denim-on-denim). Now would be a good time to learn to vary an outfit or two with scarves and accessories - and to read Overdressed for extra serenity ;)

MiM love your outfit.

Bloss have fun at the zoo!

Amber my cell phone battery always dies when I go out - I learned that four years ago when I had to leave a crayfish party just when all the interesting confessions and the general fun started - to find DD1 quietly asleep when I finally got home.

Suburban sending you good reading vibes!

Going to a beach to build sand castles in the afternoon. Addicted to rye crisps.

Hopefully · 28/07/2012 11:43

Grin dona I don't think I'm physically capable of panic buying! If I come away with a shirt and a pair of trousers I'll be impressed.

AmberNectarine · 28/07/2012 12:09

Hopefully go to MaxMara, they had brown leather trousers on Thurs!

AmberNectarine · 28/07/2012 12:10

Also Gerard Darel had fab dark green cigarette leg pants, which I saw and thought of you.

blue2711 · 28/07/2012 12:30

Good luck hopefully! Your thoughtful way of assembling a wardrobe is very inspiring although don't think I could ever be as fussy discerning as you! Would really really love to be colour / style assesses by you or se once your training is done.

Much cooler today. Wearing skinny 7/8ths chinos, white vest, whistles http://m.asos.com/mt/www.asos.com/Whistles/Whistles-Carine-Crochet-Top/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2097130 crochet top and white and gold primark floral ballerinas.

Thanks so much for kind words for my friend. Saw her yesterday and she is struggling to come to terms but ok. Dreading the funeral (and us it wrong to be worrying about what to wear?).

Thinking of you and your DS always.

blue2711 · 28/07/2012 12:30

crochet top

blue2711 · 28/07/2012 12:43

Argh, sorry for all the typos!

It doesn't fit with my supposed new philosophy of buying less but buying more carefully, but I am loving wearing an array of cheapy flats after the Bloch debacle. I've said it before but I really really struggle with getting expensive footwear purchases right.

Hopefully · 28/07/2012 13:35

90 minutes shopping and I have achieved... Drum roll please... One pair of trousers Grin

In fairness, they are nice trousers. Dark olive green skinny flare kind of cut, from Burberry (home of the most generous sizing known to mankind).

I am persevering.

Hopefully · 28/07/2012 18:45

Success! Well, some success.

As well as the aforementioned Burberry trousers, I bought a pencil skirt and top from Wolford, of all places, both in a really lovely petrol blue. Pencil skirt is like this (although I think it's called something different, it's basically a jersey tube), and this top. But, most excitingly, I got a bag! It's the AH maxi zip satchel (first pic in that link). I think SE linked it a while back, but it looked too red for me, and also too expensive (was obviously much cheaper at bicester). It's actually a really nice burnt orange, basically the same colour as my crappy River Island pleather one that I love that is falling apart. It's a bit casual for a proper formal work bag, but given that most of the time I'll be working I'll be in my studio with no need for a handbag, I figured it would be fine for now, and I'll worry about tracking down a smarter one some time in the future.

The only thing I was really hoping for that I couldn't find was a nice plain cotton shirt (which I had built several imaginary outfits around), but I can live with that - might pop somewhere for some late night shopping if we finish training early one day.

I also tried on this DVF which I am slightly wondering if I should have bought. I could't decide if the print was a bit fussy for me, but it was a beautiful shape. Also some beautifully cut DVF trousers, but I was between sizes and couldn't quite decide. And was in a bit of a rush to get home by that point.

Decameron · 28/07/2012 18:53

I have that bag in red, Hopefully, I love it. I like the dress, I think you should get it.

Looby, yes, I know it was cultural but still odd to say it to a complete stranger! Glad you are getting on well with your four.

The Queen jumping out of the helicopter with Daniel Craig was fantastic!

Thanks, Verity, I saw those gold boots but I think I would feel like Ziggy Stardust in them. I like the C de Ce boots, also might get the 50/50s in the autumn.

rufus101 · 28/07/2012 18:54

They all look fantastic Hopefully. I especially love the sound of the skinny green flares. I have a pair of DVF black flares and they are amazingly cut. I really love them. Always feel I look taller and thinner when I wear them.

Decameron · 28/07/2012 19:14

Always, hope your DS got on well today.

Glad you got a night out, Amber.

Bloss, we were at a kids party in the London Welsh rugby club, I was thinking of you!

Donna Ida has an extra 50% off sales items with the code FINAL50, I got these.

dexter73 · 28/07/2012 19:36
