Can women over 50 wear pink Birkenstocks?

greyvix · 19/07/2012 21:13

My Birkenstocks are on their last legs (brown nubuck). I was tempted by a pink pair in the sale today but DDs pointed out that I only wanted them because they were cheap, and that I should stick to the classic look. Are they right?

No, wear whatever you like.
There is no such thing as the fashion police.

Bearcrumble · 19/07/2012 21:16

I think it would be fine but only buy them if you like them, not because they're cheap.

Pagwatch · 19/07/2012 21:21

I am over 50. I would wear them if I wanted to. As it happens I wouldn't want to.
Buy them if you like them but not because they are cheaper.

I have posted before about my lovely turquoise Birkenstocks (£5 off in the sale).

Everytime I look at them they cheer me up. I am 53 and so are my feet.

Buy and enjoy.

LynetteScavo · 19/07/2012 21:24

Of course you can!

Don't buy them in the sale just because they are cheep. Buy the style and colour you really want.

Lazydaisy55 · 19/07/2012 21:58

I have purple/pink Birkenstock sandles and I'm over 50. You should wear what makes you feel happy.

Itsnotforsale · 19/07/2012 21:59

Do it...

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 19/07/2012 22:00

polyhymnia · 19/07/2012 22:27

Also over 50 and would certainly get them if I wanted. As it happens I m not a fan of pink. (My Birkenstocks are brown nubuck too) .But if you do like pink go for it.

greyvix · 19/07/2012 22:38

Thanks for the support.
I still haven't decided, but it's nice to know I could if I wanted to!

I'm 47 and have red patent and silver Birkies.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 20/07/2012 07:36

They are normally cheaper on Amazon. If you sign up for their clothing emails you get a 20% off code for clothes and shoes as well.

I live in birkies, mostly silver gizeh and just bought bronze mayari. I've also got a bright red pair on the wayBlush

I don't think you can be too old for a splash of colour. I prefer the coloured ones tbh. I think the browns and blacks look a bit erm....orthopaedic!

valiumredhead · 20/07/2012 08:24

I love bright shoes, they make me very happy - go for it!

catinboots · 20/07/2012 08:41

DM (66) has silver snakeskin Birkies Grin

HipHopOpotomus · 20/07/2012 10:21

Oh I miss my bright red patent Birkenstocks so much. They made me happy too. They did me 8 years before collapsing. Go for it OP - if you like them. There is no age limit on Birkenstock whatever the colour.

snailsontour · 20/07/2012 21:30

And why not pray tell?? I have Birkies in all colours, soooo comfy xx

FunnyLittleFrog · 20/07/2012 22:38

Of course!

BIWI · 20/07/2012 22:40

Why on earth would there be some kind of age limit on them?

rookiemater · 20/07/2012 22:43

I hate to say it as I have just bought a silver pair from TK Maxx but I suspect they have become the new Fit Flops and as such not in the least trendy any more.

Plus I find them hard to walk in - think I am going back to my Fit Flops at least they are comfortable.

FuckerSnailInYourHedgerow · 20/07/2012 23:59

I don't think they ever were trendy Rookie... You need to break them in a bit before they get comfy, so persevere, they're worth it!

OP I'm 27 and I have a pink pair. I'm not a fan of pink, but I bought them because they were cheap. Buy whatever the hell you want, they're worth paying full price for anyway:)

Devora · 21/07/2012 00:06

Yes!

rookiemater · 21/07/2012 10:20

I think they were trendy for a bit in a size 10 20s-30s skinny mummy way which is probably you FSIYH.

All I can say is at the airport I saw loads of Per Una styled ladies of Per Una wearing age with Birkies below their 3/4 length polyester crops and flouncy tops.

I suspect this effect is due to the fact that Birkies seem to be available cheaply almost everywhere this summer and people are wearing them in the thought that they are more stylish than fit flops ( which they are)

I will persevere as I have paid for them darn it but hate all that flopping around.
