Can women over 50 wear pink Birkenstocks?

My Birkenstocks are on their last legs (brown nubuck). I was tempted by a pink pair in the sale today but DDs pointed out that I only wanted them because they were cheap, and that I should stick to the classic look. Are they right?

It's the flappyslappy noise that puts me off, not the fact they're birkies - age doesn't come into it at all

Gizeh Birks don't make a flapslappy sound at all because they hold so close to the foot .

I had the Madrid ones last year (are they the one strap ones?) and found they hurt like hell across my foot.
Maybe Gizeh would be better?

I am 52 with size 9 feet Smile

I know nothing about S&B, or about Birkenstocks of any colour, but I'd say wear whatever the hell you like, within the bounds of safety and legality.

If you're asking whether some lithe 20-something will look at you and think you look sad and middle-aged, then yes, that is possible. But it wouldn't be because of what you were wearing: it would be because some people just think like that. I don't think it happens anywhere near as often as we think it does.

What is sad and middle-aged - in attitude, not in number of years lived - is buying something to wear just because it's in the sale. If there is a pair that you like better AND you can afford them, then go for those Smile.

I think its mostly over 50s who do!

OwlsOnStrings · 21/07/2012 14:38

Yes, I was going to say that my MIL wears them in various colours, and is in her 60s so a fair bit older than you :)

Buy them!
Then I can have some turquoise, blue or green ones ( I don't do pink clothes (fair DD who does) do pink feet would look silly, but I'm fed up of tasteful tan.
