Is it a bit of a palaver and is the effort worth it?

I hated it. Not great for oily skin, patchy coverage and the coverage wasn't great at that!

curiositykilledthekat · 15/07/2012 16:35

Like the mineral veil but the foundation made me look like death. Settles in lines and very drying. However my sis raves about it. It is a real faff. Can't be arsed with all that swirl, tap, buff nonsense!

mynameis · 15/07/2012 16:38

I like it but you really need loads of time to buff buff buff it on and most days I can't be arsed with it

lindsell · 15/07/2012 16:41

I like it because I have v v sensitive skin and it's the only make up i've found that I don't react to. I also like the fact that you can make it look v natural or more 'made up' easily. I have v dry skin and find that I need to use the primer for it to work best.

hermioneweasley · 15/07/2012 16:44

I have oily skin and think it's brilliant. I use t wit a primer and it doesn't take that long to buff.

perceptionreality · 15/07/2012 16:46

I love their foundation - have been using it for 5/6 years and never looked back. Before that I used Chanel. The good thing about bare minerals is it doesn't damage your skin.

nbee84 · 15/07/2012 16:50

I've been using it for over a year now and I love it. I don't like the brush that comes with it as I find it a bit scratchy. I use one from Primark. It only takes a couple of minutes at most to apply and gives me a lovely even skin tone without that 'made up' look.

valiumredhead · 15/07/2012 17:34

Love it - used it for about 2 years. The Bisque concealor is truly miraculous.

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/07/2012 18:41

I'm allergic to it, and high spectrum high screens cos the minerals in it, something to do with my nickel allergy.

valiumredhead · 15/07/2012 18:42

Probably the bismuth in it. Lily Lolo doesn't have it.

rookiemater · 15/07/2012 18:54

No I have tried it a few times and not keen looks cakey and obvious.

Fairyliz · 15/07/2012 21:07

I'm in my 50s and only today my teenage daughter told mr my skin looked even toned and glowly whilst wearing BM and without any prompting!

PissyDust · 15/07/2012 21:12

I like it but it doesn't have much staying power, I use urban decade for my eyes and the foundation does flake around the wrinkles in between my eyes.

For those that haven't got on with the foundation, what are you using instead?

valiumredhead · 16/07/2012 08:18

For people that find it has no staying power, I would suggest they aren't applying it properly - you need to buff and buff! Also, are you using a primer?

monkeysmama · 16/07/2012 12:40

I love it. I use a Laura Mercier primer underneath & it lasts all day and night. The "well rested" concealer works miracles.

I tend to use it more in winter every day& for special occasions when I want a flawless, lasting look. In summer I use a By Terry foundation which is divine.

MissFoodie · 16/07/2012 13:49

I use it and love it, however:

  • use the matte one as it does not contain bysmuth oxychloride in it
  • do not use their brushes
  • do not buff

never got a Lily Lolo colour that was as good a match as BM, also tried Jane Iredale, Inika, Living Nature, Green People

MissFoodie · 16/07/2012 13:50

oh, and never use round the eyes

valiumredhead · 16/07/2012 13:51

HOw do you apply without buffing? Confused

nethunsreject · 16/07/2012 13:51

Don't like it myself.

RackandRuin · 16/07/2012 14:00

I bought some at the beginning of the year and really loved it. But then caught sight of myself in a well lit mirror and was horrified. I'm not particularly liney, but the stuff seemed to settle in the lines around my eyes. And it seemed such a faff to put on.

Loved the lip gloss though.

MissFoodie · 16/07/2012 14:02

I just apply like any powder, looks more natural - sometimes use a big natural hair brush, sometimes a flat kabuki

think the buffing thing is something they came up with, other mineral make up brands don't do it

MissFoodie · 16/07/2012 14:03

rackandruin thats why I don't use it round my eyes, very few people can get away with it round the eyes, just use cream concealer

NewChoos · 16/07/2012 20:10

Hmm mixed views. Might give it a go, the starter kits are £51 for the matt which includes the brushes. I had some applied on Saturday and it looked better than my usual Mac but I am wondering if I can get the same results....

if not, just get a couple of sample sizes off ebay

monkeysmama · 16/07/2012 22:15

I think the key is taking the time to apply it properly and making sure your skin is fully cleansed and your moisturiser has sunk in. It only ever goes cloggy on me when I'm in a rush. It is true about the buffing and buffing to make it blend in - I sometimes leave it to settle a bit before I put my blusher on top.
