Is it a bit of a palaver and is the effort worth it?

Hi, I used to work as a BM makeup consultant and can honestly say you do need to buff to get the best results - it's heat activated, which is partially why you need to swirl it up beforehand & why it looks better 15 mins after application than at time of applying. Few other top tips I picked up: always use a primer underneath such as their own Prime Time or a great serum like Tensage - this stops the 'caking' some people describe, gives a great soft finish...plus should really be part of a good skin care regime anyway unless you have Rosacea or real acne, just use the foundation rather than bisque as a concealer - use a smaller brush to do this, then buff another layer over the top to blend mineral veil should be applied thinly over the top of everything else to provide 'staying power' the brushes are fantastic but do need washing every month to keep clean and soft - this is recommended for hygiene anyway with mineral based makeup. Hope this helps!

You need primer for under and the BM one is fantastic. I only started using it in may and I find when I haven't got time to use the primer it is really powdery and doesn't set very well at all.

I really love them as never git n with liquid foundations. Go to a BM stabd or boutique and try some girls are very helpful.

Don't buy the starter kit until you are sure! Go to a Debenhams or the like and ask for a tester to take home, they'll give you a little pot with a mini brush and you can play around at home. You can get the testers on line too and just pay £3 for the postage.

I bought a starter kit and when I got it home it was the wrong colour, once I'd got my correct colour I was fine. You need to see these things in proper light not bright shop lights imo.

I love it ..I use this everyday brush which is bloody amazing!

I don't use it around my eyes..i luckily don't have dark circles so get away with moisturiser only then use the BM everywhere else. My 20yr old dd loves it as well.

valiumredhead · 17/07/2012 16:25

gg I didn't realise you had a 20 year old! Shock In my mind you are a young slip of a thing Grin

Krumbum · 17/07/2012 18:30

I like it but you need the mineral veil too or it can be shiny on oily skin. If I get some again, I'll go for the matte version.

ggirl · 17/07/2012 19:07

valium- I am def not a slip of a thing..am a young 50 Grin but look like her sister

PissyDust · 17/07/2012 22:07

Some great tips, how do I clean my BM brushes?

Krumbum · 18/07/2012 02:18

Mix washing up liquid with olive oil. Swish the brush in it and rinse in warm water, repeat until it runs clear. Dry hanging upside down so the water doesn't ruin the glue.

valiumredhead · 18/07/2012 09:16

I just use a mild shampoo to wash the brushes which seems to be all the proper BM brush cleaner is.

gg you have shattered my illusion Grin

MissFoodie · 18/07/2012 11:31

shampoo

hippermiddleton · 18/07/2012 11:39

I use the BM brush I got in the starter kit as a blusher brush - it's just not the right shape to use as a buffing tool. Best kabuki brush I've found that doesn't cost a small fortune is the Body Shop's excellent mineral make-up one.

Dropdeadfred · 18/07/2012 11:44

I do use the .bm primer but after a few hours I still have patches that are heavier than others on my face..and my nose. If I want get it right soon I'll have to give up and go back to cream Sad

valiumredhead · 18/07/2012 11:46

Use the Barbra Daly Flawless Primer - wonderful stuff.

Dropdeadfred · 18/07/2012 12:03

Things valium I'll look for that. I don't really understand why it gives patchy

Dropdeadfred · 18/07/2012 12:04

Goes not gives

valiumredhead · 18/07/2012 12:06

Do you buff enough drop?

I load up the brush and start on my outer face and work my way in - by the time I get to my nose there really isn't much powder left.

I find the BM brushes are shit and don't do your face evenly - maybe a change of brush? The Body Shop are good or Mac get from ebay

Dropdeadfred · 18/07/2012 12:09

Thanks for the tips Smile I think I probably start in middle of face so perhaps thats why it's heavy on the nose

valiumredhead · 18/07/2012 12:10

Aha! There you go, start outside and work your way in and see if it helps.

Dropdeadfred · 18/07/2012 12:44

I will report back!!!
