There we go!

OP posts:
Russianred · 21/06/2012 20:46

Fritzi your new purchases are really lovely and am deeply impressed with how coordinated everything is. My wardrobe looks like the shared project of 8 different women; really must get a better gauge of what suits me. Open air swimming tomorrow sounds lovely, I am on the waiting list for membership here and cannot wait for next summer, when I shall walk there in balmy heat (yeah, right) in 5 minutes.

Bloss that looks good - definitely need something I can bung in and get done quickly as will be out with the kids during the day. Thank you.

Russianred · 21/06/2012 20:51

Amber perhaps going to see a good facialist (is that even a term?) first would be a good idea?

FritziGreenEyes · 21/06/2012 20:54

red It's only the communal pool here so no waiting list. Best thing is though that it's only 300 metres from our house. Some people in our street walk past our house on their way for a early morning swim wearing their dressing gowns Smile

FritziGreenEyes · 21/06/2012 20:56

"bathrobe" is the word I was actually looking for!

Russianred · 21/06/2012 20:56

Oh to have an outdoor communal pool - there is a 'proper' lido in Clifton but they charge £40 for a day's visit and I think, about £200 pcm for membership Shock. I love swimming in the outdoors - did you go to The Pavilion in CT? That's my favourite Grin.

Russianred · 21/06/2012 20:59

That reminds me of my Opa - he used to get up at the crack of dawn whenever we stayed with them, come into all our rooms and open the curtains, whistling and farting as loudly as he could. He would be in bathrobe too and would proceed to his pool, where he would swim 50 lengths, in the nude. His last swim was at 91. German through and through, clearly

I used to swim in Hampstead Heath pools, ages ago. So nice.

bretonbee · 21/06/2012 21:06

NAP order arrived - shoes are fab and definitely keepers. Skirt is also very nice but I need a second opinion on me...will be roping in XP at the weekend as he is good at that sort of thing.

My nanny said that DS hit a couple of children at nursery school this morning. I don't think particularly maliciously and he was quite tired and therefore grumpy but anything like this now I immediately worry as to whether this is normal toddler behaviour or because his father has moved out. Feeling a bit Sad about it all. So difficult. Sigh.

Lovely purchases fritzi, really like the bag. Not heard of the DMBL40 lady's new brand either but agree that the clothes seem very reasonable and nice.

Off to pour a glass of wine.

DonaAna · 21/06/2012 21:14

Do you remember the show Pimp My Ride? I pimped my Mini Gracie.

The strap was a bit long and also zigzaggy from being bundled up in the box.
So I detached the plain steel chain strap from my Dior pochette - it's perfect and can be worn two ways, long or looped once around the bag flap which makes a lovely double chain.

Have had a post-it influenced day today. Yellow dress, green Gracie, neon orange ballerinas, burgundy sash (I think it was originally used to tie up my Matches bundles Blush). Not sure how lunatic I looked but got compliments from a few passer-by. Ladies, I overcame my fear of yellow! Will you join me this week in wearing at least once something that challenges a personal style taboo/color phobia/shape aversion?

Italians are so confident with color. Saw three lovely ladies on my street on their way to the supermarket today. One wore magenta narrow trousers (not skinnies - you don't see colored skinnies on adult women all that much in these parts), a transparent white silk skirt (fabulous quality fabric, almost greasepaper like in texture) tucked in at the front but not at the back, plus flat plain silver sandals. Another: a breton type dress, but the stripes were about 20 cm wide, brilliant electric blue and blinding white, really crisp cotton, knee length, monastically plain and severe. The third lady broke a few style rules: tight narrow black trousers, a very tight and generously necklined top, perfectly balanced with an enormous, very thin black envelope clutch and sky-high stilettos that had injection needle like steel heels. Stripper chick? No, she looked like she was strutting down the catwalk...

Dinner suggestions: I have a few easy but satisfying things I often serve. Penne with a cold sauce of plain yoghurt, dill, pink peppers and smoked salmon. Roast chicken with lemon juice, brown sugar, salt, thyme, dried mint, and olive oil (1 hour in 200 C) and a big green salad. Or roast veal with the same marinade (1,5-2 hours in 175C); if you place the meat in the roasting pan over cubed raw potatoes, onions and parsnips, it's a full meal with minimal effort.

Sorry for the maxi length message...

blossoming · 21/06/2012 21:18

I am very envious of your style spotting dona.
Glad the shoes work breton, and sorry about your ds.

Your post about your opa made me laugh red. this is my local pool. A bit cold though.

suburban · 21/06/2012 21:36

Oh Red you'll have to come and visit me, we have a proper lido entrance less than a fiver. My dad goes in his lunch hour Grin. Thanks for looking for the shoes, they have the black here too. I might buy a pair anyway because my orange ones are still in pretty good nick and they are such a deal.

Amber listen to your DH Smile. As a skincare aside, there was a thread on here and something on an American blog I read about using bicarbonate of soda as a face scrub or "microdermabrasion" sp? as they call it. I've only tried it twice but it is incredible has left my skin softer than anything else I have ever tried.

Went into the Topshop sale today but both DD and I were overwhelmed by pushy teenage girls. So I came home and ordered a new raincoat instead. Glamorous.

Russianred · 21/06/2012 21:40

Do you ever swim there Bloss?! Have vague recollections of having had this discussion before and think the answer was no.

Dona what amazing style-spotting. I'll never be chic, it's not in my DNA, but I so admire women who are.

Breton that is really hard. But you'll never know the answer so you should try wherever possible not to beat yourself up worrying about it. Easier said than done, I know. Is XP's contact with DS good? From what you say about XP advising on outfits am guessing things are relatively amicable between you two, so you're already doing your best for DS in that respect.

Russianred · 21/06/2012 21:43

Marsha one of my favourite ever days was spent at Hampstead Ponds with a new and exciting (read, mildly famous in his field but with much more famous mates) love interest (not DH, I might add). Fortunately for me, I discovered he was married a few days later, but it was a great day.

loobylu3 · 21/06/2012 21:45

amber- you are about 27 right? Don't do it. You look v pretty in your pics and, in any case, there is much more to beauty/ style than having a wrinkle free face. You obviously have a great sense of humour, an ability to laugh at yourself and a great style of writing as well as lots of other characteristics which we are unaware of but your DH isn't.
I'm not saying that it isn't a perfectly reasonable choice to make but I really wouldn't make it at your age and particularly when you are chronically tired (and are therefore feeling much older than you actually are).

fritzi- lovely purchases!
bloss- was the Cardiologist's verdict okay?
I love colour too, dona. That yellow dress is lovely and so worth buying for Italy as opposed to here. I wore my bright pink ballerinas today but that's about it!
On the subject of colour, I loved your accessorising yesterday, mrsCB. Nice to see lots of old members. I recognise some but not all and they all look fab!

I had a look at the John Lewis sale but have been good and resisted ordering anything.
I think these are rather gorgeous though!
I have been toying with Summer sandals but, as I have worn them so little this year, it doesn't seem worth it!

Oasis cherries have been send back as they are faulty .

Am getting a bit too tired to think this evening so had better go!

AmberNectarine · 21/06/2012 21:45

The only colour that I have an aversion to is raspberry. Odd really as it is one of my absolute best colours. I just think it's godawful and find it impossible to imagine feeling stylish in it, even though I know lots of you can and do look fabulous in it. Odd.

blossoming · 21/06/2012 21:48

I used to red, have fond memories of going down as an extended family in the summer to spend the day. And invariably being chased home by a thunderstorm and sitting at home with no electricity. Must have happened once at least! 'tis very cold and deep though. But if I was to do a triathlon, I would have to swim in it. Btw I think you have a great sense of style. Just 'cause you're not 'classic' doesn't mean you're not stylish.

blossoming · 21/06/2012 21:52

Nice colour for a swimming costume amber!
looby, the cardiologist was taking it seriously which was reassuring for dh as the gp wasn't. He was in a stuffy office one hot day after a lot of travelling, and I think he passed out. GP said he must have fallen asleep. Consultant said it shouldn't happen at his age. He's getting a monitor next week. T

blossoming · 21/06/2012 21:52

oops, the scans he had yesterday were normal though, so he may be passed on to neurology next.

MarshaBrady · 21/06/2012 21:54

Red sounds like a lovely day. When I remember it it makes me think of being very happy, young and free to roam.

I saw a friend with an orange bag today and we both exclaimed love your orange bag. Looked awesome with her auburn hair. I now realise I really do love bits of orange and yellow too.

Breton big hug to you and your little ds. Must be so hard, but I'm sure you are doing the right things.

Dona great style spotting. I love the sharpness of the outfits. Could be straight out of Sartorialist.

Fritzi lovely, lovely stuff. I keep browsing and no banana. I will find something!

MarshaBrady · 21/06/2012 21:56

Bloss hope all is ok.

Dh asleep after going out and is out tomorrow night. Grrdy.

AmberNectarine · 21/06/2012 22:14

X-post with looby, you're too kind, as are you all, but point taken. This point in my life (over a whole year without a proper nights sleep) is not the time for such a decision.

On that note, it is my threadiversary today! Thanks for making me so welcome, lovely stylish ladies. I have learnt a lot!

loobylu3 · 21/06/2012 22:21

bloss- slight difference between falling asleep and loss of consciousness, eh?

Good that the ECHO (scan) was normal. I assume that he hasn't had previous episodes nor any other symptoms?
Unusual in a man of his age so good that they are investigating in case.

Happy anniversary amber!

Portia4 · 22/06/2012 00:28

Fritzi the White bag is in the cupboard with my new White skinny jeans! I have used it once, but with the weather so bad it's hibernating!

I went for dinner and saw a great play tonight, Tom Stoppards 'Travesties' well worth seeing.

I'm looking for some ballet flats to wear with jeans etc, if anyone sees any nice leather ones on their travels.

DonaAna your neighbourhood must be a great spot for people watching something I really enjoy while on city breaks. Your challenge sounds interesting.

FritziGreenEyes · 22/06/2012 07:27

bloss Sorry, didn't read properly last night. Glad to hear that your DH has found a good doctor now.

portia Which colourL/style flats are you looking for? I love Bloch ballet flats but remember that icey found them uncomfortable. Where is icey?!

marsha You can always get a new lamp or piece of furniture Wink.
