Forecast of rain till end of month. That leaves 2 months. 8 weeks.
Why do we even bother? And will the sales be huge ?

i worked out how many times i wore my summer clothes last year and for many it was once or twice max, as the weather was so bad and when we went abroad on our hols it was too hot to wear many of them.

so this year i'm not buying any. though if the sales are huge it might be too much temptation.

Rabid · 10/06/2012 12:08

Hard eh? Have lost weight. Was looking for shorts. Now might just manage

I was looking for sandals for my holiday yesterday but it just felt wrong while it was pouring down and cold!

alwaysrunninginheels · 10/06/2012 12:41

Am buying nothing more for summer!!! I can count on one hand how many really good days we have had so far this year!
This morning i went running in freezing hailstones....hailstones....it was so cold i could see my breath!!!
Am saving for winter clothes instead!

RobinSparkles · 10/06/2012 12:51

It's so depressing! I prefer summery stuff. Hopefully, I'll have a week of sunshine to look forward to when I go on holiday. It's a pita buying stuff that I'll only get the use of for a week though Hmm.

Parasaurolophus · 10/06/2012 12:55

I am starting to think British dressing is just a matter of trading the dark coloured cashmere cardigan for the brightly coloured cotton cardigan.

I won't wear black tights in the summer as a matter of principle, but I acknowledge that it is a stupid principle.

ToastedTeacakes · 10/06/2012 13:32

Go through this every year, and I'm not even getting a holiday this year either, so this is a really depressing subject for me! I did grab a few pairs of shorts from Tesco, but no intention of spending any considerable amount of money on summer clothes - except my new leather sandals, which I hope shall last me years.

Have a couple of little 3/4 sleeve jackets from Zara, which I haven't been able to wear yet, like a cropped fabric blazer....I'm sure the British climate likes to punish me! So far this week I have been entirely covered up in a longline NewLook pacamac. I look like a condom with the hood up, but I have to protect mah fringe..

ToastedTeacakes · 10/06/2012 13:34

Yeh, had my legs bare for a week also, they were just about getting used to the liberation before having to retreat into lilywhite hibernation once again.

thenightsky · 10/06/2012 13:58

lupo · 10/06/2012 14:49

Hi

Was just about to post the same question. I have given up buying summer stuff and haven't bought anything since 'summer' 2010. I have a lovely collection of summer dresses and sandals that only really get worn if we go abroad. I now refuse to buy any some stuff anymore.

lupo · 10/06/2012 14:52

sorry 'summer stuff', am so fed up with this weather that I can't even spell anymore

mirpuppet · 10/06/2012 15:21

I agree. I have way too much summer stuff -- as I love warm weather. But I rarely wear it so it lasts ages.

Thank goodness for the dress/leggings look so at least I can wear some of my light weight dresses without freezing. I long for bare days.

SixtyFootDoll · 10/06/2012 15:25

I've only bought a new dress this year. Not buying anything else. Hardly wore what I bought last year. No point is there?

SixtyFootDoll · 10/06/2012 15:26

I think most people are of the same mind, hence all the sales everywhere.

ToastedTeacakes · 10/06/2012 15:34

Good alternatives might be shirt-dresses, if you can tolerate the style (I like them sometimes).

Also, I've noticed that if you buy slightly higher end (more expensive) there appears to be a bit more variation and choice. Sadly you wind up having to dry clean it all.

FrancesFarmer · 10/06/2012 17:56

Realistically, in Britain and Ireland, you do not need a summer wardrobe. All you need are a few pieces that would do if there was a spell of very warm weather. Just like a person having a few sparkly items in their wardrobe for Christmas.

AnyFucker · 10/06/2012 17:57

I have decided to manage with what I didn't get the chance to wear last year

Bloody depressing innit

thornbury · 10/06/2012 18:00

Got my summer clothes down from the loft two weeks ago. Most of them only made it as far as the ironing pile, and now it seems pointless ironing them as it is too cold to wear them anyway.

I will ignore them for six more weeks then decide which ones I am taking to Dubai Grin.

Angelico · 10/06/2012 18:00

Can I jump on board this thread and whine about being really pissed off?!

Currently 23 weeks pregnant and bought some maternity linen trousers / vest tops for work, got to wear them during the hot weather with lovely sandals etc.

Now back in winter clothes which no longer fit Confused

And we're not getting away this summer so won't even get to wear them abroad for a week.

Bunbaker · 10/06/2012 18:03

I love this thread. It beats telling people to stop whining because the thermometer dared to go above 23 degrees.

ToastedTeacakes · 10/06/2012 21:36

Love this thread too: it's more 'fabulously British' than Jack Wills could ever hope to be!

thenightsky · 10/06/2012 22:34

I keep wanting to get my summer stuff out of storage boxes, but it's not happening.

Nude tight advice anyone? Primark seem a nice shade, but the crotch is by my knees.

Rabid · 10/06/2012 22:39

Marks oiled look or whatever.
