Forecast of rain till end of month. That leaves 2 months. 8 weeks.
Why do we even bother? And will the sales be huge ?

Luckily Hmm I'm still a munter like last summer so am alright

happywheezer · 11/06/2012 13:05

If we have one day of sunshine, I'm taking my preschooler out.
We have a caravan holiday booked for start of July, fingers crossed.

marriedinwhite · 11/06/2012 13:11

We go on holiday on 28th July 2012. Will buy a few holiday bits when the sales start. Haven't bought anything for the summer this year and not going to.

CrumpettyTree · 11/06/2012 13:20

I sent my dds to school in their yellow gingham school dresses this morning. (With cardi, vest underneath and rain mac.) I bet they come back splattered with mud. I suppose i should dig their winter uniform out again. It would be the second time I had dug it out again after putting it away for the "summer."

WhyTheBigPaws · 11/06/2012 13:23

My DD went to school in tights this morning - in June! Don't blame her though it was thoroughly wet and chilly at 8am when she left and it's no better now.

I bought a nice fleece lined raincoat in the Seasalt sale in about April, thought it would be good to put away for the colder weather - ha! I've worn it twice as much as any of my so-called summer clothes.

This rotten weather is really getting me down - there's only so long you can be British and make the best of it before you just get well and truly pissed off :(

Dawndonna · 11/06/2012 13:27

I don't get out of long sleeves until it gets to around 25. So, I have spent most of the summer (all bar, maybe two days), in jeans, long sleeved tops and jumpers or sweatshirts. I haven't bought sandals, I'm still in black leather winter shoes. I'm miserable!

CointreauVersial · 11/06/2012 13:28

I bought a Merrell Wakefield a couple of months ago, in the sales. The insulated one. What a stupid time to buy an insulated raincoat, eh? I figured I would put it away until autumn.

The damned thing has been worn several times already! I even wore it at our Jubilee Garden Party as hypothermia loomed.

CrumpettyTree · 11/06/2012 13:29

I feel a bit cruel sending my dds to school in ankle socks. Hopefully the vests, cardis and rain macs will help a bit!

ReportMeNow · 11/06/2012 13:37

Shops full of summer clothes are just empty, so big summer sales. Wish clothes retailers realised that given the 'summer' weather here there is always a year round market for long trousers, long sleeve tops and cardigans!

Napdamnyou · 11/06/2012 14:42

I live in hot country and have to wearshorts all year round, I tell you what, I am yearning for a chance to wear long sleeves and scarves and trousers.

Also jealous of your sales.

PavlovtheCat · 11/06/2012 14:44

it had better not be. I have just bought DH some amazing (and pricey) parafin lanterns an shepherds crooks for our soulpad, for his birthday. we have some camping to do!

Pinot · 11/06/2012 14:51

Gawd I'd rather it rained all summer than had to go camping :o

LittleJennyRobyn · 11/06/2012 14:53

Ha Ha to the walking Condom!!!!!

DD went to school in her winter uniform this morning, was way too cold for her dress.
I bought some summer stuff at the begining of May for my holiday abroad mid May, we went to escape the weather here, and guess what it fecking rained half the week and was quite chilly at times!!

Was great to come back to the heatwave, but Dh and i are seriously pissed off now and he phoned this morning wanting to book our next holiday abroad for when the kids break up in 6 weeks.

I only took out what i needed for my holiday from my summer storage box, the rest of it has been made redundant so far this year.....i haven't even attempted to put my winter gear away and still wearing boots.
Flip Flops are no fecking good in the rain, you struggle to keep the bloody things on and yourself upright!!!

Napdamnyou · 11/06/2012 14:55

Does anyone want to do a house swap with me? I would love to come to London or Norwich with 18 mo DS and DH this summer. I can offer a two bed villa in Grand Cayman in late July or August...

PestoSandalissimos · 11/06/2012 14:56

ToastedTeacakes

here are some nice

lightweight hooded coats

for you Smile

ToastedTeacakes · 11/06/2012 14:58

ahah! thankyou pesto! I have actually been pondering the shoreline jacket!

PestoSandalissimos · 11/06/2012 15:02

I've got the Shoreline in navy, it's my new best friend Grin

WhyTheBigPaws · 11/06/2012 15:04

The jacket I mentioned above is the Riptide smock - it goes over your head rather than zipping up the front but for £35 I thought it was a great bargain and it's lovely and toasty with a decent hood and things like velcro on the cuffs to stop your arms getting damp. I got it in red but the white looks nice too :)

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 11/06/2012 15:04

I don't mind too much ? I got massively a bit carried away buying coloured tights and didn't really wear them much over the actual winter, but it's cold enough again that I can get some more wear out of them! Tops are quite hard though ? it's not really really cold, so serious winter jumpers are out, but it's a bit chilly for my habitual uniform of dress with long-sleeved top underneath.

PavlovtheCat · 11/06/2012 15:09

pinot we don't do camping. we do 'glamping' Grin

Buntingbunny · 11/06/2012 15:15

I'm late for school the roads a river, it's pouring, I don't want to go.

ariadne1 · 11/06/2012 16:25

When i read threads like this, I wonder whether other MNers have either just arrived in the UK or have the memory of goldfishes.
Ehere did the legend that summer is warm and dry in the UK, spring up from, and why do people continue to believe it.
I am 43 and apart from a very few summers (eg 1976) they have never fitted this pattern at all!

dreamingofsun · 11/06/2012 16:26

98 was really good ariadne. but they do seem to be getting worse.
