Forecast of rain till end of month. That leaves 2 months. 8 weeks.
Why do we even bother? And will the sales be huge ?

I've given up with getting my summer clothes suitcase down. Like, completely.

I'm still wearing a scarf with my coat.

I'm not buying anything summery, I'm actually about to buy some faux fur slippers and PJs (see my thread about Bedroom Athletics).

I was so ready for the sun this year too :( started my smooth leg prep about 2 months ago! Waste of time much?!

orangeandlemons · 11/06/2012 21:30

Aha that would be saying. I live in Yorkshire in a place that I think has it's own micro-climate. It usually gets very bad winters. The winter before last we got snowed in for days when the rest of the country suffered very little. The name of the city was on the news a lot because of it.

Oh those Winters. Ugh, it often hit -18 butdidn't want to put that on in case people thought I might be exaggerating.

My dd is brown, but only from the May heatwave. Twas a bit sunny in March but after Easter it was quite rainy.

kiwidreamer · 11/06/2012 22:29

Ahhhhh the rain. So. Much. Fecking. Rain.

Even when I was in NZ at the beginning of the year (their summer) and it rained a fair bit it it still had the decency to be warm, I didnt wear jeans once in the month, the year before I was there half of Nov, all of Dec/Jan and half of Feb and didn't even take jeans out of the suitcase under the bed.

I don't expect a tan but I'd like to crack open a bottle of Crabbies ginger beer in the garden with my sunglasses on and the kids splashing in a bucket a couple of times before we hunker down for the six months of winter.

I've been in the UK 10yrs now but I'm sure these past 2 summers have been the absolute pits, rubbish and pants times a million :( however through some miraculous turn of fate our Isle of Wight holiday in late May was basked in sunshine, six weeks of rain prior and rain ever since. I wanted to put the heating on today but settled for fleeces and socks for us all. Boooooooooooo.

Dancergirl · 11/06/2012 23:02

God yes 2003 - I remember it well. Dd2 was a baby, temps rocketed to mid-30s!

SeymoreButts · 12/06/2012 01:20

If it helps, I live in Sydney and we had 88mm of rain yesterday (a bank holiday). We arrived last summer and they had the coldest, wettest summer since records began. All the Aussies I know are blaming me, obviously.

pattercakes · 12/06/2012 11:34

I am still dressed for winter. But we have not had rain in the last 2 days. Rather cold though

Oblomov · 12/06/2012 13:59

Discussions of the day - "End of summer? "
Oh yeah? What summer is that, then? When exactly dis this summer, of which you speak, actually start? How can it end if it never got started?
"Summer is my favourite day of the year".

nappyaddict · 12/06/2012 14:15

Napdamnyou Are you sure you wouldn't rather bring them to the West Midlands them I can swap with you Grin

stepmad · 12/06/2012 20:53

Charge went to school in summer dress vest and winter tights as well as her winter coat.
I have been wearing my boots which gave up the ghost on Sunday very hard to find another pair.
Still looking on the bright side i am usually moaning that its too hot to sleep at night.

IamtheSnorkMaiden · 13/06/2012 16:52

Oblomov I'm nicking that 'summer is my favourite day of the year' quote.

I deeply regret taking the scissors to my worn out at the knee jeans a few weeks ago. I intended to look like a hot momma in my short short cut-offs, but instead I've been wrapping up in thick woolly cardigans and resting against the radiator 'til my bum burns.

Buntingbunny · 13/06/2012 22:43

DD is off at on an activity weekend. Wellies has been underlined twice on the kitlist.

isthereanycakeleft · 14/06/2012 09:20

I took my socks off for a week a fortnight ago. They're back on again now. That's how I judge a summer. Grin

Originalplurker · 14/06/2012 09:44

Aha read this thread last night n thoughts oh yes snot just me then re buying holiday clothes thinking what a waste of money but then this am it's quit sunny where I am

Last year we had an Indian summer early October and I was swimming in the English Channel on Oct 2nd!
I live in hope that our Summer shall be delayed 'til Sept and we'll get our 2 months owed then :)

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 14/06/2012 11:27

isthereanycakeleft, I too tend to judge the season by whether or not I've got socks on; when I can comfortably walk round barefoot at home, it's summer.

It isn't happening at the moment. Sad

OneLittleBabyTerror · 14/06/2012 11:28

I got my 9 tog duvet back out because I was freezing in the 4 tog.

Enough said Sad

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 14/06/2012 11:32

That's depressing. I've changed my duvets back and forth as well. Currently on quite a thin duvet (I refuse on principle to still be using a winter duvet in June!) but have the fake-fur throw on over the top. Ridiculous.

mumhaveuseenmy · 14/06/2012 11:39

Originalplurker · 14/06/2012 12:21

The windows I've closed the bloody windows

orangeandlemons · 14/06/2012 12:53

It's sunny here Shock Shock The sun has been in and out for nearly two hours. Sunny Sheffield.

Last yearI got married on 30th Septemeber. Assumed it would be sort of Autumnal so purchased appropriate wedding finery as did guests.

It was 29 degrees Shock. Ended up not wearing wedding finery and returning it. All guests turned up looking like they were gong on holiday. Those that didn't had to change into shorts and t shirts at reception.

What is going on with the weather?

Bunbaker · 14/06/2012 13:16

I'm in Sheffield as well. Just popped over to Meadowhall in my lunchbreak. It is quite pleasant today.

Originalplurker · 14/06/2012 13:45

I'm Birmingham

kiwidreamer · 14/06/2012 13:50

I went to a wedding on October 1st last year and we absolutely melted in the heat it was soooooooooooooo hot, I wont mind so much if summer is July, Aug, Sept... as long as the sun shines for more than a week or two and I can stop wearing socks inside LOL
