Face or arse???

HappyGirlNow · 20/05/2012 09:23

Ok, I'm 39 and for a while there i was thinking I was starting to look a bit old and rough in the facial area.. You know, constantly catching sight of your crepey skin and eye bags in mirrors and photos... Depressing.. Sad

But for the last few weeks I've been feeling so much better, looking much fresher faced, feeling more attractive facially.. And it's dawned on me why that is - I've put weight back on...

So.. What the hell do you do? I can stick at the weight I am and be happy with my face and very unhappy with my arse, cellulite, jelly belly or lose the 9lbs I want to, be happy with my figure (esp going into the summer, holidays etc) and feel like Old Mother Time facially...

It's just not fair! Anyone else with the same issue?

schobe · 20/05/2012 09:36

I'm also 39, would like to lose the 9lb of which you speak AND my face looks fucking terrible.

So you're 50% there compared to me.

My worst bit is round the mouth/jowls. Is there anything that can be done besides a face lift for those bits?

Fgs don't look into a mirror lying flat on the bed while you look directly down like I did by mistake the other day. I momentarily wondered if my mother had wandered up and peered over my shoulder. But no it was me.

HandMadeTail · 20/05/2012 09:39

You can help your face by gurning! This will lift the muscles. There are books on how to do it. I think the name you need is Eva Fraser, but not sure.

HappyGirlNow · 20/05/2012 09:52

Lol Schobe Grin and h yes.. The jowls.. I forgot about them...!

Where the hell is HG Wells and his time-machine???

PooPooInMyToes · 20/05/2012 10:28

Oh god, how depressing! Im only a tiny bit younger and have noticed the changes too! Why oh why oh why?!?!!

ggirl · 20/05/2012 10:34

depends how overweight you are , if it's only half a stone then go for face but if you're much more overweight the weight is ageing in itself

fraxel laser is meant to be the new thing for saggy skin.

ameliagrey · 20/05/2012 11:21

I really don't think that a few pounds ( say half a stone) either way makes that much difference to your face TBH.

Again, TBH, there is nothing more ageing when you are middle aged than being overweight- it just makes women look so old.

HappyGirlNow · 20/05/2012 11:22

I'm not overweight, just heavier than I feel comfortable being, very flabby in stomach area etc I'd already came to terms with the fact that I couldn't be size I was in my 30s anymore so don't want to have to resign myself to being heavier again Sad

Ok, who's got a number for the nearest Transform clinic??? Wink

OP posts:
HappyGirlNow · 20/05/2012 11:24

*Should read 'size I was in my 20s...

And yes, those few pounds have def made a difference Sad

ameliagrey · 20/05/2012 11:26

well if you lose weight it should go off your stomach first- so just stop before it goes off your face!

AKissIsNotAContract · 20/05/2012 11:26

Just have laser lipo, it's painless.

ameliagrey · 20/05/2012 11:27

Oh and don't get ficated with age= being heavier. I am the same weight now that i was in my 20s- and I;m mid 50s. It just takes a bit more effort.

ameliagrey · 20/05/2012 11:27

fixated

ToastedTeacakes · 20/05/2012 11:29

I wonder if men ever talk about such things with each other! haha. But then I am your age, and never really did like my face, or my arse, so have recently come to the conclusion that at 38 I ain't gonna get any younger, or fitter from now on - so I am damn well going to enjoy being the youngest and freshest I will ever be - right now.

Like they say, at 60 you will look back at your late thirties/early forties and wonder why you didn't cherish how great you looked at the time. I'm already doing this with visions of me at 25, when I was so self critical, almost brutal to myself, and hope not to continue such a pattern into the future.

HandMaidTail - I read about Eva and was astounded! I do think facial exercises are worth trying because of how closely I've heard the skin is connected to the muscle in the face, etc. She does look marvelous - if a bit permanently surprised.

One good thing here: of all the things that you shall never be able to recapture as you age, happiness and contentment CAN be improved upon. Perhaps our internal disposition affects our face to some degree, which would be something we could alter for free, but this method would not make capitalism happy. We seem to prefer hunting for prepackaged solutions, and have been brainwashed into believing that anything worth trying must some at a high price. But I do think that how people age is more dependent upon genetics and attitude, and have seen considerable, unexplainable 'lifts' to my face when going through a happy patch!

Pity self acceptance doesn't come in a bottle, too....

[sits here waitin' for it]

TheCrackFox · 20/05/2012 11:29

Does laser lipo actually work?

AKissIsNotAContract · 20/05/2012 11:31

I lost 6inches with it last year. I've put it back on but that is due to me being lazy. I'll definitely have it again.

HappyGirlNow · 20/05/2012 11:35

Teacakes fantastic attitude Smile

Now, after saying that, laser lipo... Hmm.... Sounds ideal Grin

OP posts:
ToastedTeacakes · 20/05/2012 11:36

And one more thing (Columbo stlye..)....

This 8 hours sleep a night crap. It bothers me. I am the type of person who is lucky to ever get 6.5 hours, yet thanks to the 'giant beauty myth' I have beaten myself up for years attempting to snag that legendary 8 hours.

Never happens, unless I am catching up on a previous lack of sleep (I suffer occasional insomnia).

So many subtle yet ruinous beauty myths laid around us like traps in a forest. And again, you rarely see them directed towards men. It is all utter bollocks, even if there is truth in the goodness of a long, unbroken sleep.
We need to cut ourselves some slack.

notyummy · 20/05/2012 11:37

Perhaps focus on a fairly tough exercise regime to tone up without necessarily losing weight?

ToastedTeacakes · 20/05/2012 11:39

WTF is laser lipo??
I think the less I know about body 'flaws' (and how to fix them) the happier I will be. They've got a lovely, expensive answer to each and every one of our insecurities - and I suspect that they even invented those damned insecurities in their labs at some point.

Like who the hell bothered about cankles 30 yrs ago? People just frowned at their less than svelte calves and wore flares Grin

AKissIsNotAContract · 20/05/2012 11:42

There is some info here, it's where I had mine done:

HappyGirlNow · 20/05/2012 11:56

Looks good! So could you, for example, drop a dress size from the waist down with the laser lipo?

OP posts:
AKissIsNotAContract · 20/05/2012 12:00

I don't know that. I can give you an example of me and 2 friends who all had it together last year. I had all 3 sessions on my tummy and lost 6inches. My friend had 2 on her tummy and one on her chin. My other friend had 2 on her tummy and one on her thighs, she has kept all hers off and lost another dress size since, through dieting. I'm a lazy fucker so I've put most of mine back, but did have a good six months of looking noticeably slimmer.

piratecat · 20/05/2012 12:06

OH schobe that's made me laugh so much re - your mother!!!

thanks!!

PooPooInMyToes · 20/05/2012 12:41

Amelia. Half a stone makes a huge difference to my face. Im also not sure where you have got the idea that everyone who loses weight loses it off their stomach first! We're all different you know! Mine goes off my face.

ToastedTeacakes · 20/05/2012 12:53

I remember reading how weight tends to vanish and gain in the same area first, but it is dependent upon the individual. So if someone (say an apple shape) tends to gain in the stomach area, it ought to be the first place weight actually disappears when dieting/losing weight.

For me, it's the waist, I am high/short waisted and any remote increase or loss really shows up there. My legs and face and norklets are the very last areas to put it on. Oh well.
