Bare Minerals - love or hate?

gigglygirly · 02/05/2012 16:58

I got a bare minerals starter kit and do quite like it. My skin is slowly getting better through acid and the OCM. I do have random flaky patches on my spots (stunning aren't I!!) but the spots themselves are getting smaller. Less like plague boils!

I tried to use the foundation and skin products but it sort of collected in the dry bits and make me look flaky. Is this something I am doing wrong or should I just wait until my skin is smoother?

I really like the idea of Bare Minerals - the all natural type thing - and am tempted to buy a few more bits but it is quite expensive! Some of the colour sets look really nice.

Where is the best place to buy it and what are your favourite products?

Ebay is your friend - half the price on there Wink

LOVE it, especially the Bisque concealor.

Once I had found the right colour match and started using matte I was smitten with the stuff! Previously orange lady at Debenhams sold me the wrong colour and the original is too shiny for me.

The bruises are shite ime and have complained to customer service and got nowhere.

whackamole · 02/05/2012 17:27

I am interested in Bare Minerals as I am in all make up but whenever I have tried minerals, it looks flawless for about an hour then starts to settle and crease and ends up looking cakey and sliding off everywhere.

I have only bought drugstore brands though, and this was when they first came out so no doubt the formulas have been refined somewhat.

Lily Lolo is supposed to be a pretty good brand.

whackamole · 02/05/2012 17:28

Valium - what are 'the bruises'? Please tell me that is autocorrect!

EnglishEponine · 02/05/2012 17:37

whackamole I tried Lily Lolo the other day and wasn't impressed, it did the same settling, creasing, cakey thing that you describe.

Haven't used any other brand so don't know if it's a Lily Lolo thing or a mineral foundation not suiting my skin thing or a me being useless thing, but at least they do sample pots so I only wasted about 7 quid

Sirzy · 02/05/2012 17:38

I use bare minerals cleansing/exfoliating/moisturising stuff and love it. One day I am hoping to win the lottery so I can get some of the make up to!

gigglygirly · 02/05/2012 17:40

1 set plus 1 eye shadow plus an eye kit plus a lip gloss = over £70!! Amazing how fast it adds up!

Ha ha ha yes - bloody keyboard BRUSHES Grin

If it is settling then ime you aren't applying it correctly.

monkeysmama · 02/05/2012 18:24

Do all the foundations give the same coverage? I have always used Medium Beige but recently ordered a Fairly Light on eBay and it's giving me less coverage. I'm not sure if I have a dud or that's how it should be.

gigglygirly · 02/05/2012 18:29

If I have the mineral veil do I need one of the flawless radiance pots or are they the same thing?

Love the buxom lip gloss!

valiumredhead · 02/05/2012 18:30

I think it's more to do with colour than actual coverage. I was the other way - I started off with Fairly light but ended up with medium beige.

miche8 · 02/05/2012 18:42

i love it and have used it for about 7 yrs when you could only get it in beauty salons, i do need to put on more moisturiser than i normally would, and i've started using the bm primer and i think i would buy it again i think it stops it settling in to my pores and lines. I have various shades and they all give the same coverage, i just use the original have never tried the matt and other versions. I think the brushes are rubbish quite scratchy and they shed, i read that natural brushes soak up the product so synthetic brushes are the best have been using some body shop brushes for the past couple of years. I have the mineral veil i don't think it does much and wouldn't buy it again. It seems expensive but it lasts so long, i've started buying the blushers and i'm thinking about an eyeshadow, love all the little pots.

Lots of fake makeup on ebay and you don't know how its been stored, if you buy from qvc you can return if you don't like.

The trick is to buff buff buff and buff some more, you only need a little of the product.

valiumredhead · 02/05/2012 18:44

I have never come across fake BM make up on ebay, and only buy from people you can return to. QVC is over priced ime. Feel Unique website is good also if you don't fancy ebay.

cybbo · 02/05/2012 19:02

It didnt really have the desired flawless effect on my skin..mine too porey

BUT I do love the lipgloss, the rose radiance and the mineral veil

Have sought foundation eleswhere

littlepinkfizz · 02/05/2012 19:17

I have fairly average skin but bare minerals made my pores look magnified. Felt like I needed more coverage . Just didn't do it for me :-(

ReshapeWhileDamp · 02/05/2012 19:26

I buy all my BE top-up supplies on ebay (after buying a few pieces in House of Fraser, and I was given some as presents as well). It is less than half the price you'd pay at the counter.

I find it pretty darn good, actually. I'm a make-up hater - I don't like feeling like I have it on, I don't really enjoy applying it and I'm not remotely interested in grooming - but the stuff has turned around the way I use make-up. I probably don't do it properly, but to put on face powder foundation, a bit of eyeliner, blusher and lipstick takes under 2 minutes really, and makes a big difference to my skin. I have horrible oily combination skin and I think it's dried up the spotty areas a bit. Have to be careful to buff the powder in evenly or I get a bit dry-looking in drier areas.

My main bitch with it is that it's a bloody nightmare to clean up after! I put it on over the sink so at least I can scrub at it (and the powder really does show up if you don't clean your sink properly!) but the dust gets everywhere.

QuinnFabray · 02/05/2012 19:44

I don't like it. And yes, the brushes are scratchy and inferior. There are so many better equally priced brushes around (Sigma, Real Techniques).

gigglygirly · 02/05/2012 20:27

I like that the foundation and concealer don't feel heavy - I tend to get a bit oily by the middle of the day. Love the Well Rested concealer!

On my wish list is the classic glam collection, pure happiness collection, buxom lip gloss in bunny and kanani, rose radiance and queen phyllis eye shadow. Can't afford it all so maybe just one collection and a lip gloss ......

How long do you buff the foundation in for?

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 02/05/2012 21:36

You buff for as long as it takes you to sing Happy Birthday twice in your head!

gigglygirly · 02/05/2012 21:54

Think I need to buff longer! I did about 30 seconds!

OP posts:
gigglygirly · 03/05/2012 19:37

Tried it again today and quite like the coverage. The eye shadows are a bit glittery / shimmery though. Maybe I am too used to the minimal look but they are a bit bright / obvious.

Think I will order the classic glam set!

Love love love Bare Minerals but I also need the matte version.
I use bisque as an everyday eyeshadow as well as a concealer.

I have found the BEST brush ever for applying it here I watched a videos on you tube and a few recommended it . It is soo soft and hasn't shed at all since I got it a few months ago. You will not regret getting it!!

monkeysmama · 03/05/2012 21:02

I love the well rested concealer too. I use Laura Mercier's Mineral Primer underneath and it conceals all my pores and lasts even longer.

monkeysmama · 03/05/2012 21:03

I'm going to order one of those brushes ggirl. Thanks.

BlueRinse · 03/05/2012 21:14

I obviously don't buff for long enough.

I always wear BM but it tends to be gone by the time I do the last school run.

hermioneweasley · 03/05/2012 21:18

Love it, though a got a full sized LL foundation for Christmas and will be trying that next. Skin is miles better for combination of mineral foundation and OCM
