Is it a jumble sale or is there anything worth looking at?

OP posts:
cocolepew · 30/04/2012 18:23

Depends, you need to take your time. I was there today and the womans wear wasn't great but they had Denby and Le Creuset .

cocolepew · 30/04/2012 18:24

Oh dear I appear to have turned into my stuffy SIL, Denby FFS Sad

Pascha · 30/04/2012 18:24

Bypass the clothes unless you're feeling and get lost in the homeware. You will be there hours.

gregssausageroll · 30/04/2012 18:25

Lol. Just reading another thread about stilla make up so that sounds good.

OP posts:
gazzalw · 30/04/2012 18:25

It varies very much from time to time. SIL is very good at finding lovely clothes but then she is a size 6/8 (UK) so often finds samples from designers etc... DW less fortunate. But it's a bit like Poundland - you have to go at least once a week to as stock changes quickly and you can be there when they have Stila make-up etc.... but you just never know.

Didn't someone imply that the KHS one is the one with the most upmarket clothes or am I imagining that?

Mombojombo · 30/04/2012 19:26

My local TKMaxx current highlights are:

Stila makeup as discussed in other thread
Elizabeth Arden makeup and skincare
Dune shoes
Superga pumps
Levi's bold and demi-curve jeans
Clements Ribeiro shirts/tops
Fossil bags and luggage

There IS a lot of tat in many. Theres a reason a lot of it didnt sell 1st time round! Take your time. Get a basket. Persevere. The cosmetics sections tend to be the most chaotic in terms of hundreds of boxes and packages just lumped together on a shelf. They often package up little bundles of stuff, or put expensive things in security tagged boxes. Just keep calm and I'm sure you'll find something to take your fancy!

gregssausageroll · 30/04/2012 19:55

Well I am child free so have time to wander. Will report back!

OP posts:
Meglet · 30/04/2012 20:20

I've found that little and often is the best way of dealing with TK Maxx. If I have a child free 10 mins in town I make sure I have a quick dash around to keep tabs on what they have in stock.

Even if there isn't much in stock one week it doesn't mean they won't have a few gems delivered in a few days.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/04/2012 20:30

Wear comfy shoes, you might be there hours.

I've seen the following in TK Maxx.

Ralph Lauren
Christy sheets/towels
All Saints
This Works (skincare)
Elle Mcphearson underwear
Calvin Klein undies
Stila
Tigi
Karen Millen
Dune
KG shoes
Patrick cox
Birkenstocks
Leighton Denny
Le Creuset
Denby
Oneida cutlry
Thermos
Champneys
Ecloths
Moschino

I generally skim along rails in my size, the best stuffs on the end displays

Meglet · 30/04/2012 22:18

There was an Alexander McQueen skull scarf hiding on a rail in our one a few months ago. £40 IIRC. I had my sensible head on and didn't buy it. obviously I regret it to this day and should have just gone without food for a week.

gregssausageroll · 01/05/2012 07:28

Meglet that is unforgivable!

I am heading off soon so will report back.

gregssausageroll · 01/05/2012 17:40

Differing sizes but on offer were

Bought some stilla, t-shirts for DH who will be pleased. Got a couple of bits for DS.

Got some kitchen stuff and a scarf.

Some nice bags but nothing I loved. Good to see osprey there. Would go back in a couple of months

ROAR. At e cloths. Saddos

lololizzy · 01/05/2012 18:10

went in today, got a Nails Inc set and four pairs of shoes but it was going to be five so hey, I'm quite restrained! and some Pringle socks. The Stila makeup I decided to leave...there were three items per pack, but would get two good colours and one horrid one in each ((in my opinion). The concealers were VERY dark and I'm pale. guess I could've been naughty and opened up the packs and mixed to get the combo I wanted, but too scared!

lololizzy · 01/05/2012 18:12

has anyone tried to get a bra in there? Especially if large ish of nork...ye gads!!!! horrible experience. Never again. Impossible. Jumble sale and where the little banner says, say 38DD (my size), they were 30AA / 36J etc etc...no 38DDs.

lololizzy · 01/05/2012 18:13

I got some gorgeous Guess wedges for £34.99 though

Selks · 01/05/2012 18:13

The bags there can be great. Shoes very hit and miss. Nice toiletries. Good homeware such as bedding and towels, kitchen things. Clothes very variable, but children's clothes can be good.

Selks · 01/05/2012 18:14

My last purchase was a fab set of Fossil make up purses, at £10 for a set of three, which was a steal.

warmandwooly · 01/05/2012 18:17

Yes had a bra from there and I am large of nork. You have to get em while they are there!

lololizzy · 01/05/2012 18:17

Selks, today I tried to help a girl choose a Fossil leather bag! They were fab. Probably wouldn't make a great personal shopper as she couldn't decide, and purchased both!
The nail stuff was good today - lots of Essie / Nails Inc / Mavala / Andrea Fullerton oh and after the shoe guilt , purchased some chocolate orange fudge for £1 as I might as well be on a guilty roll

KenDoddsDadsDog · 01/05/2012 18:19

I like TK Maxx. Got some fab Korner skin care recently, This Works stuff including a candle , a Ralph Lauren sweater for my dad.

OracleInaCoracle · 01/05/2012 18:23

I popped in today and got some stila foundation, tinted moisturiser and brow set anmd a fab dress. In the past I've got fcuk sunglasses for a tenner and a pair of dune flats for £15

pootle123 · 01/05/2012 18:51

Just got an Antoni and Alison Breton top reduced from £120 to £17.

gregssausageroll · 01/05/2012 18:55

They had lots of Leighton deny stuff too if you like your nail products. Didn't see any fossil bags in my local store though.

I love TKMaxx. For me, the regular good buys are Speedo swimsuits (dd is a club swimmer and seems to get through them at a rate of knots) which are generally about a third of normal price. Similarly swimming goggles.

I also love their shoes. Converses, Doc Martins, Vans, Birkenstocks, all at a fraction of normal costs but of course you have to take your chance with what they have. I bought some fab tartan Birkies last year for £12.

Dd (15) loves their ModBox section for younger funkier stuff [old fogey emoticon]Grin

Homewards can be great but can be utter garbage. Often great bargains in bedding and towels. I think I feel a visit coming on!
