New thread for chatting. Oh and swapping S&B tips.

Having a manic day here - INSET day at school and I have 7 kids (inc my 3) over for lunch. While also trying to "work from home" and talk to removal people.

Grin @ MI's old school song. Most excellent!

Glad to hear all is well with Dukes.

I wish I could make the 8th but I fear I cannot. I am (woohoo) having my colours done (it's all ruby's fault) on the 9th and I must be there all perky at 9.30am. 'Twill not do if I turn up with eyes like peeled radishes which is how I tend to look after a Crepey night out. (Not to mention having to get a train back from London at about 6am).

Sad though I will be to miss a major Crepey do, I am cheered by the prospect of a mini crepey meet or two. I will PM you my mobile no., herbs.

bigTillyMint · 17/05/2012 20:00

Oh Strops Sad Is there no way you can postpone / get it done in London instead?

MrsSchadenfreude · 19/05/2012 07:56

Page 3 again, hags?

I got in at 3.00 am to be greeted by a pool of catsick and a funny noise from the bathroom, which turned out to be the kitten wiping its bottom down the side of the bath. Not something you want to have to deal with when you are drunk very tired.

motherinferior · 19/05/2012 09:45

Ah, catsick. A frequent feature of the Inferiority Complex.

herbaceous · 19/05/2012 11:19

With dp away, and my fete(worse that death) tomorrow, I've had to get all domestic goddess. By 10.30 il done two loads of laundry, cleaned the hob and made brownies. Not sure I like this 'being a proper mother' nonsense. I usually spend Saturday morning reading the paper.

Still, to make up for it ds is on the computer in the study, while I mb on my phone in the bedroom.

CointreauVersial · 19/05/2012 13:51

We have our fete-worse-than-death today as well.

You'll be pleased to know that my topiary has been trimmed, and I will be proud to display it to the whole village (arf).

This morning I am ashamed to admit I failed a DC style audit. I was wearing a pair of cropped chinos, ballet flats and a long-ish cardi, and was told by all three of them that I looked "like a granny". Oh, the shame. They insisted I changed into a pair of skinny jeans before leaving the house, "much better" apparently.

I hardly dare tell them that their real Granny (i.e. my mum) told me yesterday that she'd recently popped into Zara Shock and picked up a lovely pair of floral-print skinnies, the sort of thing the Wise and Avid stylish ladies have been raving about. So she's on the cutting edge of fashion, meanwhile I apparently look as if I've just stepped out of the pages of the Chums catalogue. I am still smarting about the family party six months ago, when I was mistaken for her (older) sister. Angry

bigTillyMint · 19/05/2012 15:06

CV, im sure you didnt look like something out of chums (not that ive ever seen it!) - your outfit sounded fine to me!

However, I feel that I have lost my S&B shopping mojo - after an hour and a half of perusing the shops in the out-laws town, I hsve seen nothing I like enough to buySad

MrsSchadenfreude · 19/05/2012 15:15

I hate most of my wardrobe. I have dull Windsmoor suits for work, which I really don't like, teamed with tops, which I don't like either. My casual wardrobe consists of two pairs of jeans, both of which are a bit big (one pair won't even stay up and have fallen down to my knees in the past - thankfully not when I was out) and dull tops and tunics. I have too much black, grey and purple and need to inject some colour, not to mention style, into my wardrobe. I am putting my long cardie into the charity bag as I type.

bigTillyMint · 19/05/2012 16:10

What about getting you colours done? I am considering it (a la Stropps!) but fear they will tell me to chuck out everything I like. I guess you would have to do it over hear - can't see anyone in Paree needing that sort of adviceSmile

MrsSchadenfreude · 19/05/2012 16:45

I am supposed to be a Warm Spring, BTM, and wear colours like coral, turquoise and light khaki. Not lumber about in black, grey and purple. Sad

I think I need a New York shopping trip and to be taken in hand by my Fashion Friend there. Poor her!

Blackduck · 19/05/2012 17:13

Wotcha crepeys.
MrsS did you speak to head honcho? How did it go?

S&B wise I wear the same trousers for work all the time - I am terribly boring, but also carrying too much weight which I hate - have been eying up a boot camp (gulp).

8th - not sure if I can do - half term and I have to fight it out with the team.

motherinferior · 19/05/2012 18:24

I have just purchased a little silk-mix velvet Chinese-style jacket/top, with short sleeves, originally Monsoon, nice tealy colour, in a local charity shoppe for £3.50 and am pleased with self even if the Inferiorettes are sniffy about it and DP remarks prudishly that it is 'nice to see me in a higher neckline for a change'.

motherinferior · 19/05/2012 18:26

Nice floppy velvet. Not too structured. Slightly tight so I have to wear the top buttons undone Grin

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2012 20:12

Where are these local charity shoppes of which you speak, MI? I never see any bargains on the very rare occasions I venture into oneSmile

Just watched Gregory's Girl with the family - DD was very underwhelmed and thought they were all geeky and losers, but not in a funny way (although she did identify somewhat with Claire Grogan) DS and DH loved it and it brought back all warm fuzzy feelings for me (I went to see it 3 times with one of my friends because he had a crush on Dee HepburnGrin, though John Gordon Sinclair was never my type - I don't do skinny menGrin)

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2012 20:16

I have to add that on a S&B front, I cringed big-time at the clothes and hair-styles - so accurate on what my friends and I looked like in 1981. DreadfulBlush

CointreauVersial · 20/05/2012 21:17

BTM, I love that film. Yes, we did look like that. Blush

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2012 21:19

I couldn't believe how bad the girls hair-cuts were - not just the flicky permy ones, but those ones that just made them look like boys. I remember lots of my friends looking like that - drab. I, however, had a blonde bush on my head at all timesGrin

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/05/2012 22:01

I had a blonde bush with a looooong brown plait hanging down my back underneath. And shaved over the ears. Grin

Pixie boots, leg warmers, ribbed tights, gathered skirts...

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/05/2012 07:13

What do I do, Crepeys? DD1 has entered a story writing competition, and the prize giving and announcement of winners is on 8 June. She probably won't know if she is placed until next week - they let all of those know who have come 1st to 4th, and the actual places are announced on the day. This might sound a bit premature, but she came 3rd last year, and is hopeful of a repeat performance this year.

herbaceous · 21/05/2012 08:53

I don't think I understand, Mrs S. What is your dilemma?

I am BUSHED. Spent two days carting tables, cooking, cleaning, dashing hither and yon, and two hours serving bbq-ed sausages to the thronging punters at our May Fair. It was SO BUSY. And it raised £2,500! Amazing. It was worth all the hard work, I think, but next year it's going to be someone else's hard work.

DP has returned from India with gyppy batty, as predicted. The sort that as soon as you stand up, you need the khazi. I rather hope it's all better by the time we go on holiday on Friday...

bigTillyMint · 21/05/2012 09:50

Herbs, it clashes with the event of the season - the meet-up!
Congrats to your DD for last year and fingers crossed for this year. Do you and your DH attend all the prize-givings together or could this be his turn? Just asking because I have had clashes of events for the DC recently and have had to release my vice-like grip on attending everything. It has been quite cathartic actuallySmile

Herbs, congrats on the fund-raising, but beware, you will have to say NO a few times before anyone listens to you saying you are not doing it next year, IMHOWink

TheReturnOfStropperella · 21/05/2012 12:07

Quickly resurfacing before rushing back to school. This working-out-of-the-home lark has cut into my MN time terribly. I had to spend the w/e doing (aarrgh) Actual Housework. Outrageous. I usually just slot in a spot of hoovering between deadlines and shouting at dh.

Well done on your sterling fair efforts, herbs. Looks like it will at least be good weather for the start of your week down in these parts.

Hmm, Gregory's Girl. I have never seen it. Should I have, I wonder?

TheReturnOfStropperella · 21/05/2012 12:18

ps: herbs, have pm'd you.

herbaceous · 21/05/2012 13:41

I have it, Strops! It would be great to meet up, but have to take into account oddly anti-social DP...

motherinferior · 21/05/2012 20:05

Oh f*ck.

That little girl I've mentioned from time to time...not good news, doesn't look as if she has a long time to live.
