DP white linen trousers?

shelley72 · 13/04/2012 19:17

are they ever a good idea for the summer? or are they a bit 'mumsy'? ordered some from DP the other night whilst the 25% code frenzy was on and am now wondering what i will look like in them, and what i could put with them that i already have. am already feeling decidedly frumpy of late.

does anyone already have these?? there are no reviews as yet on their website. any opinions please?

Christ are linen trousers considered mumsy? I live in mine and always thought I was pretty with it Hmm

shelley72 · 13/04/2012 19:24

i'm not sure. i think i read somewhere here that they can be???

It's all about the Pajamas ladies

florencepink · 13/04/2012 19:24

They look like nice ones, also look like they would keep some shape, sorry haven't got them but I would buy them!

Catsdontcare · 13/04/2012 19:27

They look quite nice. I think it's the shapeless linen rags that everyone buys from next a generally considered offencive

PooPooInMyToes · 13/04/2012 19:36

I have some summer fitted trousers in white that i have no idea what to wear with. Any ideas? Where i live they are worn a lot by the Essex crowd who tend to look a bit naff. Any idea what to wear with them to NOT look naff?

HappyHarmony · 13/04/2012 19:45

I wear linen trousers in the summer but only brown, navy or black because I find the whiite/light coloured ones too impractical. I wear them with a vest t-shirt like this and I think it looks ok. If its chilly I throw a cardi like this on over the vest top.

I think if you wear linen trousers with something like this, this, or this then it can look pretty mumsy.

PooPooInMyToes · 13/04/2012 19:56

Happy. I would have preferred them in another colour like beige or something but the white ones were given to me. I was thinking of wearing them with ribbed vest tops a bit like the one you linked. White is just so tricky to chose colours to go with though! [without looking Essexy]

HappyHarmony · 13/04/2012 20:10

PooPoo I'm a long way from Essex so I'm not sure what looks Essexy I'm afraid!

PooPooInMyToes · 13/04/2012 20:32

Have you watched the only way is Essex?

HappyHarmony · 13/04/2012 20:35

No, never. I think I'd hate it and I've not been to Essex since c.1989 and I think things have probably changed since then!

QueenCadbury · 13/04/2012 20:37

I love linen trousers but just get annoyed with them as they get shapeless so quickly. As with anything it's what you wear them with that determines whether they're mumsy or not. I tend to wear mine ( navy) with a vest top. But maybe someone else will say that's mumsy..? I personally wouldn't wear white but that's because I'd never keep then clean!!

If you like them and thy fit well then keep them.

StepfordWannabe · 13/04/2012 20:41

Lovely shape but are they not a bit (entirely) see-through? I actually think white trousers are gorgeous in the summer but I HATE seeing people's undies/arse through their clothes.

nobodysfool · 13/04/2012 20:42

Can i just put the record straight. I have lived in Essex all my life and have NEVER met people like the twits on The only way is Essex!

akaemmafrost · 13/04/2012 20:45

I am not at all mumsy but I will be wearing white linen trousers this summer, I love them, wear them with sandals or ballet flats and vest tops and I think they look great.

PooPooInMyToes · 13/04/2012 20:52

Nobody. Wow that's amazing. Perhaps its the part where i live (right near where it is filmed). I actually find the white trousers more "chigwell".

tanfastic · 14/04/2012 07:04

I wear mine with vests and cardis and my bird print scarf or a denim jacket. Is that mumsy (please tell me not as I'm 39 with a child!).

shelley72 · 15/04/2012 06:57

thank you all. i am keeping the trousers Smile. when i had my colours done white is very good on me apparently - she suggested as a complete block with a colour cardi/jacket so i was planning to wear mine with a vest top (poss not white though) a little cardi and maybe a scarf. so it sounds as though i will be steering clear of 'mumsy' (tho i too am 39 with children tanfastic!)

the whole essex thing had never occurred to me, living in the sticks Shock

I am 40, no kids and would never in a million years wear linen trousers of any colour or description. I do think they form part of the'mum' uniform.

Peg leg in brightly or 'ice cream' coloured silky or cotton fabrics - or, as posted above, pajama trousers - are the choice this summer.

shelley72 · 15/04/2012 07:12

Sadly my legs are way too fat for peg legs. Might get away with pyjama trousers though. Any links please?

OP posts:
tanfastic · 15/04/2012 11:36

I have peg legs too, in fact I have all styles so maybe some days I'm mumsy and some days not Grin

tanfastic · 15/04/2012 11:39

Love those Zara ones. I have some similar in black and White print. Peg legs are incredibly flattering in my opinion. I'm a size 14 and I think they easily make me look a 12.

CointreauVersial · 15/04/2012 12:33

I think the "mumsy" accusation is levelled at the baggy wide-leg linen trousers, worn with a wobbling arse and visible underwear.

I can't quite get to grips with the pyjama ones, though.
