My hair looks like shit. What the hell am I going to do?

I had my hair cut short 2 weeks ago. I'd been feeling mumsy and frumpy and thought I'd be brave and have my long hair drastically restyled. It just looks so ugly though and I know I won't get used to it. I've taken to wearing baseball caps and bandanas to hide all the clumpy layers at the top and I look foolish.

Hairdresser mentioned extensions but couldn't give me a price - she said somewhere between £400 and £700 . She also said it wouldn't look good because the bonds would be visible.

I look mannish and ugly. I've been thinking of attaching strands of beads to my hair line just so I can scoop the lot back in a ponytail and hide the disaster underneath. I don't care if I look weird or quirky. I need outside the box suggestions here.

Dear Lord, I spend FAR too long on MN. OP I dreamt I turned up at your house and sorted your hair out for you like in that link gap posted! It looked lovely then we had a cuppa and a chat and I woke up.

Glad you are feeling more hopeful Diddy. Really, you do NOT look awful. Lots of great possibilities with that hair - you have an untrained mop right now but plenty of length to work with. Get adventurous!

It is nice though. Unfortunately I have a funny shaped head and hair bands never fit or stick up or just pop off.

I have succumbed to the demon drink tonight - well DS is at his dad's and it's almost the weekend. I am rocking the pirate look right now - big gold hoops and a new bandana with matching lipstick. I think I look sexy and edgy but there isn't enough booze in the world that would get me out the door looking like this.

My wig didn't come today but it should be here tomorrow - please God let it be here tomorrow because I am meeting old friends on Good Friday [prays].

When I get my wig I will upload a pic, plus all the other photos for those that missed the catastrophe.

I still haven't given up on the baseball cap look, although I have found a nicer one than the fake lime green lettered Nike one lent to me by DS.

I read your last post and felt like I should say again that perhaps the baseball cap is the wrong way to go? There is no baseball cap in the world that will look good unless you are playing tennis. Ditch the bandana too, it is a very late 90's look.

You have a really lovely face and you should mess around with your hair rather than covering it up. I really mean no offence and hope you don't take any but have a look at the suggestions made by others above as they are very good!

I'm gonna have fun today. I need new make-up and bras and clothes and everything.

I have lost 4 stone recently (since last September) and how did I celebrate - by hacking all my hair off! I still have another 2 stone to lose but I felt bloody great before I did this.

I know my wig looks a bit stupid (please, I don't want confirmation of that) but it's made me feel a bit less exposed and vulnerable. Today I am taking my birthday money out and I'm going to hit the shops.

First bras, then make-up, then clothes. I haven't felt this happy for a long time.

It looks lovely and normal IMO. Not 'wow, what a great new haircut', but 'oh, I like that hairband Diddy', which I suspect is what you want it to look like - not much different from your old hair, yes?

Def start the shopping budget with bras. A good bra makes everything look better. Then decent foundation/tinted moisturiser/concealer (depending how good your skin is). Those two and you're sorted. The rest is just jam, as my gran would say.

The hair band comes with the wig YLAIOD. I love your username, it is very apt.
